Tonight at 8:30 pm, I am taking part in Earth Hour.  Millions of people will be turning off their lights as a unified expression of concern about climate change and our planet. This global event is called "Earth Hour".

It is sponsored by World Wildlife Fund. I read online that," Earth Hour got started just two years ago and is now the largest event of its kind in the world.  Last year, more than 50 million participated and the lights went out at the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and the Coliseum in Rome, just to name a few. Even Google's homepage went black for the day! ""This year, Earth Hour will be even bigger - already 250 cities in 74 countries have agreed to take part including Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami and Nashville with more signing up every day. Around the world, cities like Moscow, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Shanghai and Mexico City will turn out their lights."

I would have posted this sooner but between my husband's car accident and messing up my back today, I thought Earth Hour was next Saturday. My sincere apologies for not posting this sooner.

WWF wants the US to have the most lights turned off than any other country in the world during this historic event.

Each one of us can participate. It's just a matter of turning off the lights. You'll cut down on a bill and at the sametime make a very strong statement which will be noticed by leaders worldwide. If you read this please join in.

We are one family, human, sharing our one home, our beautiful Earth!

what a wonderful event -- the bad news is I didn't see this until 930 CST -- the good news is since I wasn't home everything was off! :-D

Yes, Lisa, you're right a wonderful event. I wish I didn't have the mix-up since the accident or I would have been posting sooner at Viewpoints and various places on the internet including various letters.

At least you had everything off at home. Good for you - you did better than me. Everything was off except for one thing. A certain someone insisted he was going to finish watching a movie. At least he sometimes turned it off for commercials. And he's recovering. What's a girl to do??!!!!  : )   Quiet, candlelight, snuggles and homemade cookies - all for a good cause!

I'm going to be checking on the internet to find out what others did. There's supposed to be some things on YouTube also.

We were out so the lights were off for the most part. We have to leave one light on for our doggie! Jo

I am so very sorry that I posted so late. Between the accident, insurance things, my back, worries - it's been rather hectic so I got mixed up with the dates. It's my first time too starting  a discussion on the boards. Oh well... better luck next time.

For those of you who have been contacting me about EarthHour at this board and my profile page a great big Thank You!!!!!

For all the hellos and well wishes, for my health and Kevin's health, and interesting comments - Thank you for your support!!!!

It means a lot. It's a wonderful part of being a member of the Viewpoints community. Some of you even feel like family.

Heartfelt thanks!       : )

I'm wishing you well! Does not being at home, count? We were on our way home from an event in a dark car. . .

Well all of my gang hung out by candlelight. We played cards and had some fun.

Thank you!  A dark car.... doesn't it all count when looking at the bigger picture? I'm curious did you happen to notice if any areas went out by you lik a power outage.... I'm just wondering what towns besides bigger cities participated. You should have seen me trying to talk a certain person in my living room into turning off the tv!    : )

Hey, Jo, it shows you still make a difference. Turning out most of the lights still helps. If you do it on a regular basis not only do you affect your bill but the environment as well. Thanks for posting!  : )
