My screen name is personal to me.  When my grandma died several years ago, I was having a very tough time moving on and I wasn't handling myself very well.  Someone told me, "I know what you are going through is very difficult, and it doesn't seem like it, but, this too shall pass".  I had heard it before but it didn't mean anything to me until this part in my life.  Now it is a quote that I try to adhere to in difficult times of sadness.

Just wondering...how did you decide on your Viewpoints screen name?  Is it personal to you, funny, or did you just think it up as you were registering?

I chose my screen name becuase both my first name and my maiden name share the Sh letters. I combined my names at the SH and have yet to get on anything where my screen name has been taken.

My screen name is personal to me too. I have several for different occasions and either have to do with cats or bears. I love both. Knaag was my first female and she had to be put to sleep in 1959. Since then I have found another female feline whom I lost to cancer in 1985 and a male feline whom I lost to cancer in 2007. Another female came into our yard and appointed me to be her feeder. She too died in 2007. We then took two kittens through our vet and, sadly, one of them died after we had her for nine days due to feline leukemia. The second one is a feral cat with several screws loose, which can be cute and loving, but often hisses and bites.

my screen name is barts-wife -- I'll give you three chances to guess my last name!! I am not of fan of the infamous "Simpson's" and got tired of hearing hey where's Marge?  Worst of all - my husband had 'specialize' license plate for awhile!!

Oh, gosh! I just read an article about a man trying to get a job and his name was hindering him. His name is Glenn Miller. If he can't get through a job interview without talking about that, I wonder what it would be like to be Bart Simpson! I'm sure he's got a pretty good sense of humor about it (hence the license plates). I would get so tired of the jokes!

I have been on the Internet for a bit over 10 years now (wow!) and my catchall screen name had always been alexdg1 (my first name and the initials of my last name) ever since I started out in Juno Web.

When I switched from Juno Web - long story - to AOL, I decided to take off the "dg1" bit from my moniker and added Fardreamer to the Alex bit.  I had just read a really mediocre Star Wars novel titled The New Rebellion which had a character named Cole Fardreamer.  I thought that since most of my relationships (romantic and non-romantic) were long-distance ones, Fardreamer fit me best, so I've used it whenever I take on jobs at Forums First and other posts-for-pay gigs.

I originally planned to use my Epinions user name of alexdg1 here, but I decided to use Fardreamer just in case some of the more fanatical members of that site decided to blackball me for writing in a competing site.

Well, I just love waching hummingbirds, I have always thought they were beautiful.  I have a feeder in my back yard, and I love seeing them feed.  I also bought some pre-printed checks and mailing labels with hummingbirds on them......they are very amazing little birds!

I have one husband and four sons.

I heard on a religious retreat once----The Bible says "and it came to pass."  The Bible never says "it came to stay."

I've been using this name ever since I discovered the internet over 14 years ago (wow, that's long!). In high school, my friend's always said my hair looked like Elvis because of the thickness and volume. In essence, I had an "Elvis do".

And now you know the rest of the story.

I came up with my screen name...one because my husband's aunt had used the name I was going for D and since we share the same last name, it was already taken. So I use the letters of my name, 3 from my first name, and 3 from my last name.....the 63....Lets see maybe how old I am...or what year I was born??  So if you see darlyn63 it's me. Unless it's on my website.

I didn't realize how many of us use the same screen name everywhere we go.  I assumed that our Viewpoints screen name would be different.  I don't know why...mine isn't :)

Thanks for sharing everyone.  It was interesting to read why everyone chose their screen name.  It seems like most screen names are not personal in nature, and just convenient or practical at the time it was chosen.

I'm an electrician and I drink and drive a lot....

Not really! I think I explained my nick here awhile back in another thread, but it has to do with an online racing league that my brother and I started a few years back when we were all on dial-up. We called ourselve the Dial Up Internet Racing League, or DUI for short. Sparky is short for my racing name, Spark Fartin, a parody of Mark Martin, who is, IMHO the classiest NASCAR driver ever.

I love to choose my screenname and it's always the same so I don't have to keep up bothering to try to remember what each one is at every different place.

this2shallpass19,

Allot of times things such as how we see ourselfs can define who we are and where we've been our life. I spent sixteen years floating around the world with U.S. NAVY. I participate in a number of other online groups so coming up with my screen name wasn't hard to figure out. Thus NAVPRO.

my name is onyx after my precious kitty (not pictured here) that was killed in 1995 (there is the 95 part).  My picture is my current kitty, her name is Polly.  If you see her and the name onyx anywhere online, it is me - I consistantly use this combination for nearly everything I am a part of.

I have to agree with the classy comment about Mark Martin - saw him win in Phoenix once.

I am a huge Tudor fan too. What a great name. I have every book about Queen Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn, that has ever been written. Aren't they a fascinating group of people?

My screenname is the name I use on almost every thing I go on here in the computer world.  "tharrell09" is T the first letter of my first name and my last name Harrell and 09 is just because of this year because thats when I started doing more stuff on this thing.

It's who I am.

I wouldn't mind being known as Jazzman, but I was too late at Epinions, and it was just easier to use this at most places. Besides, it really is who I am.

I picked my name back in 2000, when I joined epinions.  We had owned Susie's restaurant so I wanted to go with Susie.  There were so many Susie's in the system that the suggestion came up to use my zip-code.  So that is what I did.

I have since moved so it doesn't apply anymore, but so many people know me from way back, that I wanted to keep the same name.

TunefulGal just comes kind of naturally.  My grandfather, parents, three uncles and probably more, way back when, were professional musicians from little and big band guys to professor to singer to theater organist, etc.

Not surprisingly, I have two degrees in music and have both written about and taught music for eons.  My hubby, TunefulPal, loves music but doesn't play.  He actually even likes to hear me practice.  Whadda guy!
