I'm curious about how much people are spending for gas in different locations.  I am paying about $3.95 per gallon, but if I drive 20 miles to the south or west, it is only $3.69.  I still do not understand why there are such big fluctuations in price.

The price of regular gas was $2.32 at the Costco in Leesburg, VA. I keep a log of my gas purchases and the price I've paid has not been that low in 18 months.

I filled up for $2.71 on the way to work Thursday morning and thought that was good until at lunch time the same station had dropped to $2.59.  Well, considering I was coasting into the pump on fumes; I wouldn't have been able to wait any longer.

I went by the Super Walmart today and they had gas for $2.24 a gallon.

This morning, priced had dropped again- down to $2.16 per gallon.

This really needs to stop. The Houston economy is dependant on high oil prices.

Geez, Bryan... there's "high" and there's freakin' astronomical. I hope we can find a proper balance.

The Circle-K near my office was $2.29 yesterday and Exxon one block over was $2.41.  Is anyone else seeing these price differences?

Yes. On Tuesday (Oct 28) in Leesburg, VA, Costco was selling a gallon of regular gasoline for $2.23. 200 yards away at a Sheetz station, the price was $2.49. And Sheetz is often the cheapest gasoline around!

Well, I never thought I would be paying less than $2.00 per gallon, but that is what happened today. Kroger cut its price to only $2.02 per gallon. Using my Kroger card, I got my 10 cent per gallon discount, reducing my final price down to only $1.92 per gallon!!!

Did you ever think we would be paying prices like this for gasoline? Just a few months ago, the price was around $4.00 per gallon and a purcahse of, say, $40.00 didn't even fill half the tank in my Ford Explorer. Now, the same $40.00 send the gas gage needle almost all the way to the "F".

Yesterday my sister and I did a lot of running around and it put me on different sides of town.  Her side in West Columbia was selling for $2.29 and $2.24.  On my side in Lexington there was a station selling for $2.19.  I am going to have to fill up in the next few days so I am HOPING to get the $2.19 or less.

Gas was selling for $2.24 in Florida before we left.  It is $2.49 here.  If we could only get rid of these NY taxes we'd be doing great.

Well, yesterday when I bought gas, it was $2.19. But I've heard that it's gone down to $2.16. I'm really hoping that it'll get down to $2.00 a gallon before it skyrockets again. The big oil companies are starting to complain - loudly. I'll be even happier when/if the price of food goes back down. I can barely afford going to the grocery store anymore.

I just filled up this morning at $2.11.  About two miles down the road it was $2.09.  I will be okay if the gas prices go up some, because it's a given that it will happen but I would rather see the prices stay below $3.00 a gallon.

$2.63, but just across town it's still $2.84. Either way it's still too expensive around here.

As much as we are all enjoying dramatically lower gasoline prices, I would not be against higher taxes on gasoline as part of an overall energy policy. For example, tax gasoline/diesel fuel so that the price is $4 per gallon. Certain businesses could be exempt from the tax, such as truckers, farmers (for off-road use), railroads, airlines and so on. That way, we pay higher prices for gasoline but it simultaneously does not increase the cost of commercial travel, food and other merchandise that we buy.

High prices for gasoline will make us drive less and cause us to shop for more efficient/smaller vehicles. The tax collected should be used to encourage alternate energy and energy conservation, so that we can get serious tax credits for solar, wind and other valid alternate energy generation products. There would also be tax credits for insulation, window/door upgrades, improved furnace/heating systems, etc.

At $2 per gallon, we will soon be back at car dealers snapping up monster SUVs and pickups. I don't want to deny them to people who really need them, but big SUVs/pickups are horribly wasteful as all-around transportation vehicles. As much as the car dealers could use the sales right around now, I hope the Escalades, Expeditions and dually pickups have seen their day.

Yeah, I love buying gasoline for half the price it was four months ago. But I cringe at the thought that will make it easy for us to climb back into our SUVs and drive down the road at 15 miles per gallon. I, for one, am willing to pay extra for that.

Just a thought...

Many projected the prices would begin to climb after the election.  Some said it was going to be a morale booster, a ploy to encourage faith in the US economy, and so forth.  The station I filled up at yesterday for $2.11 is now $1.99 but about one mile down the road the station that was $2.09 yesterday is now $2.29 today.

I just don't understand how the prices are fluctuating as much as they do.  I understand one might drop there's a few pennies to beat the guy across the street.  But we're talking extremes here.  Yesterday gas station B was cheaper than A.  Today A's prices have gone down and B's prices have surpassed them all.  This in less than 24 hours!

I spotted yet another new low for gas in my area: $1.79 per gallon at a small, independant gas station. And just a short distance down the road, Exxon was priced at only $1.83.

Times have changed and changed quickly!
