I'm curious about how much people are spending for gas in different locations.  I am paying about $3.95 per gallon, but if I drive 20 miles to the south or west, it is only $3.69.  I still do not understand why there are such big fluctuations in price.

Bob - - $3.66 is cheap we went down to $3.83.  Today gas dropped over $3.00 a barrel. Why does it take so long for us to see the decreases at the pumps?

I've heard that it takes at least two weeks for a drop in the price of crude oil to show up at the pump. Think about it... some oil company agrees to buy crude oil at $125 per barrel. The oil is loaded onto a tanker ship and sails to a refinery. Depending on where the well is (Mexico, Venezuela, North Sea, Nigeria, Middle East, Alaska or even Texas), the oil can take from two to 15 days to reach the refinery. Then it has to be refined into usable products. Once refined, the gasoline has to be shipped to your neighborhood, and that can add from two to 10 days depending on your location.

The price drop will show up eventually and it's REALLY nice when that happens. Pump prices should drop another 20-25 cents at the current cost of crude oil, so times will get better for at least a little while.

Our gas in Baton Rouge, LA just went down a bit.  The lowest I've seen is $3.59 a gallon.  This is at Murphy's and you can get $.03 discount by using a Walmart shopping card.  I'm hoping this downward trend continues, although I doubt it will ever go back under $3.50 a gallon again.  What is crazy is the diesel prices, they are almost $5.00 a gallon.

I hate to slip off-topic but... Wal-Mart has shopping cards? I didn't know that.

I think a gallon of regular gasoline will slip below $3.50 in the next month or so, but not everywhere. Every little bit helps, though.

I have (luckily) been asleep for most of two months so I missed the $4.00 regular period that started in mid June here. Right now in suburban Atlanta the gas costs about $3.67 or so. Hope it goes even lower. ;>

Isn't that CRAZY?!?   I actually heard some gas station owner on the news yesterday state that it takes longer for the price to go down because they've already paid the higher price for the gas in their underground tanks so they charge us for the gas that's already down in there with the higher price.

But duh, that's the same reason they give about the price going up.  That when the price per barrel goes up so does the price even though they paid less for the gas already in their tanks.  It makes absolutely no sense and we're totally getting screwed.

The price I paid this morning was $3.54 per gallon for regular unleaded. At its peak, the highest price I paid for gasoline was last month, when regular unleaded was selling for about $3.96 per gallon here in Houston.

We paid $3.80 today and were happy. It was $4.30 last week. YIKES! This is central New York. I wonder if it's higher in New York City? Then again, no one drives there.

Its really pretty simple, greed.  They charge us the new higher prices right away, even though they have yet to purchase any gas at the new higher price and, conversely, the are slower to lower the prices so they can make that extra profit as long as they can.  They ain't foolin' nobody!

It's funny cause we basically saw ths in action yesterday.  It was announced again that price per barrel went down, yet for 2 weeks in a row prices have jumped.  Right before the weekend even... hmm can you say price gauging?  People were just starting to think they could actually travel here, which would be so good for the struggling economy we still have here.

OK off my soap box now before I get started too far :)

The price is still dropping in my area. It is now down to $3.46 per gallon of regular unleaded.

Isn't this funny? Did you ever imagine that we would get excited over a gallon of gas costing around $3.50 per gallon?

We've seen it as low as $3.56 for regular at the local WaWa gas stations.  I paid much more than that a few weeks ago for super in my hot little car. I still have half a tank ago since I don't really go anywhere in the summer, so my next gas station experience will hopefully be less than the $4.20 I saw last time.

I'm reckless enough not to worry enough about the price difference in our area.  I don't drive all that much... from here to my sisters, my parents, the grocery store, the liquor store, a friends house, etc.  I seem to spend $50 to fill it up every 3 weeks no matter what.

Gas is about $3.79/Gallon for Regular in my area.  There's a single gas station near the car rental places at the airport that charges about 50 cents/Gallon more!

Today I saw it at $3.46 for regular at the local WaWa.  I still can't believe that the prices are dropping.

Talk about rural.  In my hometown in the mountains of 350 people the nearest town is an hour away by car only!

$3.24 in St. Peters, MO. west of St. Louis.  Still about $3.30 or higher in the city.  It's come down a lot but still too high!

I'm paying about 3.67 cents a gallon right now. The gas prices are going to the top. I don't think we will see lower gas prices for a long time to come. Unless we can get a good president in office, that will look at our needs, work with economy, and work at giving us a break at the pumps. Think, the food prices are going up just the same. God bless this country.
