Does anyone else find that it's like pulling teeth to get helpful votes from people?  Some of my reviews aren't very in depth because I simply didn't have a whole lot to say about what I reviewing.  On some of them, however, I had a lot to say and I took a lot of time and effort to detail everything.  One such review that I wrote recently has 23 page views, but not a single one of them bothered to give a helpful vote.  I find it to be very frustrating.

What would be a reasonable expectation as far as helpful votes are concerned?  If 100 people look at a review of yours, how many would you expect to get helpful votes from?

Try the indirect approach.  Leave thoughtful comments on some other's reviews and add some ''fans'' for writers you like.  This will raise your profile on the site and could attract more interest in your reviews.  Good luck.

Okay, that appears to be working remarkably well.  I retract my previous statement.  Thank you for the advice.

Glad to hear things are working out better. JovialCougar is so right... once you share the love and support others you should surely start to receive the same in return.

It's possible that those page views are from non-members.  Some people may actually be finding your review through search engines and therefore they may not be very familiar with the ratings at the bottom.  I have reviews with over 300 hits and only 8 Helpful votes.  I actually get excited if I get more than 8 Helpfuls on a review :)

When I first started here, it was a celebration to get one or two good points (helpful votes now). I have noticed that more people are rating but I totally agree that it's very easy to overlook good reviews simply because there are so many people on the site now. When I discover someone I didn't know existed here, I tend to read several of their reviews and give them HV on all. I will comment on one or two but not all I rate.

Definitely exposure is the key to getting member votes. I am not saying it's a "good ole boys club" where I scratch your back and you scratch mine, but if people know you are around and see you commenting, they are much more likely to check out your work. And adding friends also helps people to keep up with what you're writing.

I look back at my first reviews and I have 1 vote on so many. That stinks but, as time went on, I built up some visibility and that helps!

BTW JazzSinger, I read your reviews and rated a day or two ago. :)
