I was on vacation recently and stopped at the Blenko Glass factory in Milton, WV. Blenko makes a lot of pretty colored glass items and there is a viewing area to watch the factory at work. I had my HD camcorder with me and shot them making a pitcher called a Bella Bocca. I just edited the video clips together last night into a somewhat coherent little video, which I uploaded to YouTube. Here it is:

I just love watching craftsmen make things like this, and thought I'd share it with you. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks, Bob!  I'm always totally fascinated by glass blowing as well. \

I really didn't know that they really BLEW to make those. Very interesting video.

Pretty fascinating.  Where do you go to learn to do something like that?

I assume that you can apprentice at this factory, if you can land a job there. You occasionally see glass blowers at craft fairs and art shows, but these guys cranked out five or six of these pitchers while I was there... that's how I was able to get close-ups and cut-away shots. I really wanted to get a close-up of the guy cutting the glass off the top of the pitcher, which I was able to get and it ended up near the end of the video.

BTW, the video is in HD. If you click on the "HD" box at the bottom-right of the screen, you can watch it in HD.

I just uploaded another video tonight, this one on a butterfly garden on Mackinac Island, Michigan. You can get to it from the above URL... just click on my YouTube name (pvreditor) and you'll have access to all my videos.

Hope you enjoy them!

Glass blowing is fascinating.  Other sites which I have seen it done--Colonial  Jamestown, VA; and Corning Glassware, Corning New York.  In NY, you view through glass [like an industrial tour]; one is closer to that section in Jamestown.

Very interesting. Not a hobby you can pick-up at a moment's notice either. I grew up in an area where glass manufacturing was the #1 industry so remember seeing people do this for a living.

Interesting- not a hoppy or craft I would partake in, but interesting nonetheless.
