If you find something fishy on the site that you don't typically experience, (e.g. error messages, trouble posting content, etc.) let us know.

The more details we know, the better. Please supply as much helpful info as possible like:

1) What web browser are you using? (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.)

2) If having trouble posting a review... What product are you attempting to add?

3) If you receive an error message, what does it say? (e.g. Server error, We're sorry an error has occured.)

I am keeping a record of these issues you are reporting here. Our tech team will be investigating each item on a weekly basis in order to prioritize the workload efficiently. If I don't reply directly to your post here... please know that your message has been noted and submitted to our team each week. In some cases, I may need to reply to you by email. Some issues can be resolved easily and quickly. Others will take extra time so we want to make sure high priority issues are addressed first. Thank you.

I'll hold off on publishing it. I had no luck with my own html. Jo

I am able to use the HTML command for paragraph/line feed. This is the letter "p" bracketed by the less than/greater than symbols. However, when I mixed in the HTML commands for bold, Viewpoints' editor didn't like it. I had to strip it all out and use only the paragraph command.

That's what I'm using here to separate this line from the previous paragraph. Otherwise, nothing else seems to work.

Hey Meredith - I noticed something odd a few minutes ago as well. I was going to update my Profile but it won't let me (using IE). I click the Edit button and it brought up the page with the facts about me but the window closes down automatically about 3 seconds after it opens and does not give me a chance to enter anything.

Thanks for the heads up! We're taking a look. May have something to do with the formatting bug that Jo and Bob reported today.

I just edited my review and formatting is working perfectly. Now is it working here?

No, formatting is still not working here in the forums but I was able to edit a review using bold text. It worked fine.

Formatting is back in action on:

  • Discussion Board comments
  • and the Write a Review page

Oh wysiwyg editor, we love you.

Thanks for your patience everyone!

I have Internet Explorer.

Today, I left the room for a second, and my younger brother thought it would be funny to write a review for a book that I was looking up in the "Read Reviews" section.  The soundbite says "Great," and the review says "awesome." I haven't even read this book, so I can't just edit it and get on with my life.  Is it possible to somehow delete this review?

EDIT: The review is for the book Graceling by Kristin Cashore

The Ford ad is taking over.     It took numerous trys for me to be able to post.  The ad shows up on the screen with no way to close it.   I hit the back arrow to get back to the community page, but it pops up again.   I'm going to post this fast before it happens again.

Hi beebopper!

Sorry to hear you have a pesky ad taking over your screen. That's no fun at all. I have a few questions that will help us diagnose the problem.

  1. What web browser and version are you using? (Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 6, Safari, etc.)
  2. What specific pages do you see the Ford ad? (e.g. all discussion board pages, only one certain discussion thread, auto category pages, community page, etc.)
  3. What does the Ford ad say?

**This is going the extra mile, but if you happen to catch a screen shot of the ad you're seeing on Viewpoints pages please email the picture to me: meredith@viewpoints.com.

Sorry for all the questions! This will help us help you quickly!

If anyone else is experiencing this problem please let us know here.

Thanks,

Meredith

HELLLLPPPPPP! I just posted a really long review (A top 10 type list) and it's all one big block with some hmtl inside of it. I can't get into the html to clean it up so it looks like poop. Can anyone please fix it for me? It's my review on my top concealer picks. The first paragraph is OK and, after that, it's one LONGGGGGG block of text with some html coding mixed in. It's dreadful.

Thanks!

Hmmm that is weird!  I know the text editor messes up sometimes.  Perhaps just try again in the morning and the editor will be ok.  Do you see the text edit options on top of the box when you edit?

Patty & Suzi,

We've identified an editing tool bug and are making necessary changes to fix it. We should be back on track later this week. The problem sometimes causes review formatting to look funky or HTML code may appear. It's not happening to everyone on every review but sorry to those it hits. We're working to fix it and will post an update once it's good to go.

As always, thanks for reporting!

Meredith & MrNik :)

Hi!  I have detected a minor glitch when I was doing my last review just now (Newman's Own Lighten Up Cranberry Walnut Dressing).  Although I added the picture the usual way and it shows up correctly in the draft for the review, the "saved" or published version only shows a blank square where the picture should be.  There isn't even a message that says "Image coming soon" -- it's just totally blank.  I tried deleting the photo and bringing it on board again and the same thing happened.

Anna, we do seem to be experiencing photo upload issues.  I'll post an update after we have a chance to debug and hopefully fix this issue.

Anna, we have pushed a bug fix to resolve the photo upload issue.  I am currently in the process of fixing photos that were broken because of the bug.  If you have uploaded a photo in the last 24hrs and it showed up as blank it will be fixed this afternoon.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Update:  all effected photos have been fixed.

I don't know what we would do without you, Kevin, and your crew.  I appreciate you guys all the more because of what I have experienced in some other websites.  My beautiful picture of Paul Newman (may he rest in peace) is now loaded perfectly.  I figured you all were working on the problem but felt I should mention it just in case.

Take care and I hope everyone down there in Ground Zero has a nice weekend.

Thanks Laurie, we're looking into it. Can you check your spam/trash if you haven't already? Just want to make sure they're not ending up there.

I'm trying to post a review on the book Prairie Tale but I keep getting an error msg that it contains an invalid HTML, bold, italics, etc. I removed the links to my other reviews thinking that might be the problem but it still won't let me post. There is nothing unusual about my review so I'm wondering if we are once again having problem with the special features (Bold, italics, bullets, etc.). It's allowing me to save it but not post it. Can you check into that for me? Thanks!

Okay, I remembered I had this problem a few weeks ago so I went back and edited the review.  The Indent feature once again isn't working.  I was trying to do a block quote so I guess that was giving me the paragraph marker error message.  I removed the block quote and put the quote in quotes and it allowed me to publish my review.  So, my review is there but the block quote isn't.

Thanks to everyone who tries to work behind the scenes to resolve the many issues we present to you on a regular basis.

Clarification so that it doesn't look like I misrepresented Viewpoints:

Melissa Gilbert didn't reach out to me as a result of my review of her book. She and I were already in touch on Twitter for several months.  I told her that once I read her book I would review it and she didn't believe me so LadyMagic told her that I did review books...Then she asked if I would send her a copy and I did.  After she read the review she sent me a comment but she sent it via Twitter.  She loved the review and now I'm keeping her up-to-date on the stats ;+)

I am having problems with hyperlinks in my reviews. If I put www.whatever.com and want it to be an underlined link, I always get this error message:

1 error prohibited this post from being saved

There were problems with the following fields:

  • Body should contain only valid HTML and only the bold, italic, list elements, and paragraph markers.

I have to break the link to post the review. I had to break the link from that fake website above to even post this question!

Also, what if you make a mistake posting an all-new review? I reviewed my veterinarian at Ames Pet Hospital. I realized after it posted, that there is no "www" in their web address, it's just the words after the slashes. But it seems like once you navigate away from the first page where you enter location and address information, you can't go back and fix it.

Thanks! pitcherday

Pitcherday, currently you are only allowed to link to web pages on www.viewpoints.com.  Any other website urls need to be plaintext, instead of links.

As far as editing a review after you publish it, you can always go to your "my home" via the tab at the top of every page.  Then click the Reviews link that will be just below and to the right of your photo.  From this page you can see all of your reviews and edit buttons next to each one.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for the info about hyperlinks. It took me forever to figure out why I was having problems posting reviews. I know you can edit reviews from the star rating on down. But can you edit the "about" part if you mess it up? You know, the name of the product, location, web site info...

I have not been able to fix the website I messed up. Can you tell me how to do that?

Thanks Kevin

My stats haven't updated in 24 hours. I'm new so maybe I don't understand completely how it works, but usually they update more frequently.

Sorry if this is a dumb question.  :)

I should be able to fix that for you.  Feel free to email me at paula@viewpoints.com and tell me what is wrong with the "about" part and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks!
