I would like some feed back regarding this whole issue with December 21, 2012 theory of the end of the world...  It is upsetting to hear and now they are coming up with a movie  -  it seems that all the prophets, mayan calendar ... etc. end on that date...

I hadn't heard of this.  We're supposed to be on a cruise during that Christmas.  Maybe we'll just push it up a couple of weeks because it is a freebie and I'd hate the world ending before I got a chance to use it.

I don't know anything about it.  I did see that there's a movie coming out about it that looked intriguing though.  I'll have to look into this more to see what you're talking about.  Interesting.

The end of the world has been predicted many many times.  It's just b.s. to promote books and movies.    The passing of comets, to Nostradamus....and some writers who predicted it would happen in 1999 or in 2001  will actually go back and try to write another book re-predicting the end of the world.... or by saying what they thought was the date according to the Mayans or the Nostradamus or the prophets wasn't actually that date but this date because you have to factor this and that into it and.. blah blah blah..

Do NOT worry about such things at all... Don't buy the books, only the see the movie as something fun and entertaining, and enjoy yourself.. we are going to be here for a long long time...

I heard about it and don't believe any of it and if it's true, there's nothing anyone can do about it. There have been so many end of the world predictions that I don't pay any attention to any of them. No one knows when that day will come or if it will. I'll just live until I can't live no mo. :)

Let's make up a song for it. After all, the year 2000 had "Gonna Party Like It's 1999."

What kind of theme song do you think the movie will have?

Well it sure does seem,

Ain't No Mountain High Enough,  Ain't No River Wide Enough,

all blowed up, real big

on giant 3d Imax screens

12/21/2012 just happens to be when the Mayan Long Count Calendar resets. It's kinda like December 31st. That's pretty much all it is. Here's some more info I dug up....

The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by José Argüelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about December 21, 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation, yet is commonly referenced in pop-culture media as the 2012 problem.

For example, Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization FAMSI, notes that "[f]or the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle". However, she considers the portrayal of December 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic-shift event to be "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

Exactly how many things that are predicted based mostly on non-scientific data, even trivial, inconsequential things, ever come to pass? I truly believe, even in a worse case scenario, say an enormous asteroid hit, of which there are few, it would take more than one day for the "world to end". The last one failed.

Speaking of which, what should "the world" mean to us? The planet's own existence is in no way threatened by us (or it would have succumbed by now). To the Maya "the world" was the land they knew. Point being, maybe the land ecompassing their habitat is the "world" referenced. If so, and if by "world" they meant "themselves", as a people and a culture, then they missed it by centuries.

Sadly, people will actually be making economic and personal decisions based on this doomsaying. Many more will become mildly apprehensive. Someone could really hurt themselves. It's like chain letter mentality - it won't happen...but then you never know. Better to be safe and keep it going. "Better not travel home for Christmas on the 21st." I've never forwarded a chain letter, I delete them quickly. And I am deleting this December 21 silliness as well. There. Done.

I'm not upset by stuff like this, and in fact I cannot wait to see this movie!

Remember the end of the computer era? The crashing of the national power grid? The infamous "Y2K." Buy wood burning stoves and solar panels! Stock up on food! Build shelters!

Or how about the Orwellian "1989" with us getting tracking chips implanted in us and the coming about of official newspeak. Some would argue that Big Brother has been slowly encroaching on us, but it was all supposed to hit big time in that year.

Nostradamus was a huge thing until most of his so-called prophecies were not coming to pass and it was admitted that his past prophecies were kind of being retro-fitted to match events that were close to them.

It's opportunists that create these world "events" to cash in in one way or another. Maybe just for the joy of freaking people out.

Dont forget that 12/21/12 is also supposed to be the day that the polarity of the earth switches, or some such stuff.

I remember the first time the world was going to end in 1979 according to the Jehova's Witnesses (my Aunt was one).

What is always fun to me is seeing these groups the next day and listening to their explanation of still being here.

Not to worry 2013 will come and go... My stepdad is all into this 2012 thing and we have gone round and round over it. I just think when the calendar was made they couldn't "predict" any further. It's like us thinking waht the workd will be like in the year 10,000. No possible way we could...

It has been talked about for some time now. My son often jokes about not needing to plan beyond that date- reminding me that the world will no longer exist.  I then laugh and say, "Oh, I forgot." Then, we both laugh and go on with life.  I would presume that we will do the same thing on December 12, 2012... unless, of course, we, as a planet, have managed to blow ourselves up before then.

I've been watching the History channel relating to this quite alot the past year or so.  I don't believe the world is going to "end" per say.  I believe it will be an unfolding of a new beginning.  As DUISparky noted in his info,  I do believe there will be a cosmic shift.  Therefore, that could mean a shift in consciousness.

There's a movie about it?  Ah geez, what they won't do to make a buck ~ I'll save my 2 centavos, thanx.  Go on your cruise Rudi, you'll be fine.   To me, it will be like a new Spring time.  It will be "happening" around the Winter Solstice.  I guess we'll be pulling this thread up 3 years and 2 months from now...

Research it a bit more...I'll be doing the same.

Some interesting facts there - DUISparky.  Thanks for the info.  People have been predicting the end of the world for hundreds, if not thousands of years.  If it comes...it comes.  I'm not the most religious person in the world - but, it's all in God's hands.

Well, at least if the world really does end on 12/12/2012 we won't have to deal with any "told you so's" on the 13th.  There's a bright side to everything, if you look for it.

We went from 12/21/12 being dooms day to 12/12/12 in 6 short posts.  If we have 6 more it may become 11/11/11 twelve more it will for sure be 10/10/10 ;-)

LOL - it's going to be a cosmic shift...my feeling is NO ONE should worry.

And it could have already happened/is happening now.

I've heard of this many times before, but I just can't believe that the world is going to end that soon.  It just can't be possible.  But I really want to see that movie, it looks like its going to be awesome.
