It seems that the Levi Jeans company has a talent for creating controversial ads.  Some that are made for TV never make it to television while others are quickly pulled.  Here is the newest creation that asks you to Unbutton Your Beast.  Are they over the top?  Simply clever? You decide.

I saw a still image from the campaign and was disgusted by it.  And I am not a prude by any stretch.

I have not seen this ad yet. When I went to the website you provided, I was speechless, which is hard to do. I think it is way over the top.

I agree with both of you.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I am having a hard time understanding how these companies continue to get away with pushing the envelope further and further.  We seem to be losing all forms of decorum in our culture.  Isn't anything off limits any more?

I agree with nj chicaa in that I do not consider myself prude but I do find a lot of levi's ads inappropriate.  I see this one you just sent and I'd swear it looks like a joke that should be on comedy central, not on daytime tv.

ANother Levi (i think levi) ad i saw portrayed how a girl couldn't wait to get into a guys pants bc he was wearing the jeans.  Considering they are advertising mostly to teenagers, I find it inappopriate.

Had these same ads been used on adult channels like comedy central FOR adults at night, OR if the one you linked was a joke in a comedy central skit, I'd say they were funny, but as a method to get kids to by your pants, it should be off limits.

I think they get away with it b/c no one is looking at it and saying "who is this aimed at?"  Instead, they are only reviewing it to make sure it passes all the TV laws and that's it.  If there was someone that had the job to rate commercials as they do TV shows, a lot of Levi's commercials would be hidden for late night only.

Okay, when I first read this post I thought it said UNBUTTON YOUR BREAST and couldn't figure out what that had to do with Levi's.  LOL

After going to the site, I'm pretty surprised by it.  I'm not a prude or anything, but I don't think it appropriate.  I'm thinking......young boys wear Levi's too and I'm not crazy about what the ad implies.

I have seen at least three different Levi's commercials and I hate them. I have a just turned 18 year old son and I don't want him acting like these kids. They tease that the kids are having sex for the first time as they unbutton their jeans. Then they take them off and either jump into water with just underwear on or do simular things. I don't want my kid taking his clothes off and jumping into water with a chick in just bikinis and a bra, tyvm.

I am not a prude AT ALL but this is aimed at kids and that is where I draw the line. I don't like the commercials and I certainly don't like the message they are giving off.

I just went to the site and it's just not what I consider appropriate for anyone, IMHO.

Patty you are right about the message these commercials are sending.  It's just not acceptable.

It's like the parents that let their children walk around with micro shorts that say "Juicy" on their bums....what are they thinking!  But some must find this type of advertising funny or cute....not me...I think it's very offensive.

This is SICK!!  I can't believe this is a Levi's promotion ad campaign.  I will be writing a letter to them today to voice my opinion on this.  Way over the top and this just puts ideas into (good) kid's heads.  What is this world coming to?

I just saw it, and I think it's beyond disgusting (and yes, I am a bit of a prude...heh). I suppose they have the right to air it, but I have the right not to buy their products because of it.  Makes you wonder what they have planned for the female version...

Their ads seem to aim mostly at males, loveisjoy, as they usually portray how beneficial it is to the male.  I've yet to really see any stand out crazy female version.

I just checked out the ad on the website and think it's dumb (as well as tasteless).  I know that it's geared towards teenagers but I can't see them being amused by it.

I haven't seen any other Levi's commercials but agree that marketing today is all about sex, even with the younger crowd.  I am shocked sometimes by the clothes that are marketed for my preschooler!  I wanted to buy her a swimsuit at the end of the season but all that was left on the racks were leopard print, High School Musical, and too skimpy swimsuits.  I hope that the manufacturers and retailers realize that there was a reason why no one purchased those styles.  I want my daughter to look like she's three, not 23!

I think our world is changing.

I have a college aged son that I mentioned this to and wondered if he'd seen the ads.  He said no but the other night he and a roommate were watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on the "N" channel.  [This is a channel that is supposed to be geared towards young teens.]  Both boys were shocked at many of the ads they were seeing while the show went into commercial break.  From girls taking off their shirts [backside view] to alternative lifestyles they were in awe that this was being shown on a Nickelodeon channel.  I have never watched this channel and granted it was the wee hours of the morning but it makes me wonder how things are going to be for my little grandchildren.

The N or Noggin or whatever channel is crazy!  That show is probably the show I've heard of called Degrassi.  I've never seen it, but I've seen commercials and I can't believe that show is meant for 5-6-7-8th graders.

I know some HS shows are bad too (like Gossip Girl) but I'd like to think by the time kids are in HS they have learned to make mostly good decisions (well, at least they know what will get them in trouble), but when they have these shows for 8th grade and under, I'm amazed!

Advertising has always been about sex, probably since the first caveman tried to sell a slightly used wooly mammoth to some dumb loser caveman. Heck, "the world's oldest profession" is sex. Add in two other factors:

1. It's easier to sway a naive kid than it is to sway an experienced adult; and,

2. Kids have a lot of disposable income.

I remember being six years old and begging my mother to buy the stuff advertised on TV, such as cereal, candy and even margarine. Advertisers do that deliberately, 'cause they know how much we want to please our kids and stop the whining. And the power of sex to attract 12-18 year-old kids should never be underestimated. It will pull their eyes to the screen every time and create a powerful impression. Some pimply and awkward 14-year-old boy will now get the notion that wearing the right Levis will make girls think he's cute, when in fact he'd wet himself if a girl actually spoke to him. (I know... I was that kid.) That is an intensely powerful vision to put in the mind of a young teen and Levis knows it. They do it with cars, music, cologne, shampoo and even entire store chains (e.g., Abercrombie and Fitch).

So yeah, the advertising is shameless. And it's also successful, since we're all talking about how naughty this Levis campaign is.

I'm not saying Levis isn't selling Jeans, Bob, I'm just saying that's I wouldn't want my kids learning those types of lessons from these commercials.  We can sensor which tv shows are kids are allowed to watch but it's pretty hard to sensor each commercial :(

I think Levi's takes it to a new level then a lot fo those other types of commercials.  A lot of the others just insinuate that you can get a girl to want to kiss you, but these ones actually have teens taking their pants off and doing things I would hope mine would never do when they are 15!  Well, the world is changing.  I remember when a scandalous commercial was if 2 people kissed!

Oh yeah I Love Lucy and many other shows back then had that :-D  Funny that they never explained how their kids came about.  Just one day they were having a kid!

I am a single mom of 3 great girls (15,12 and 7).  I am not a prude and we are very open when it comes to the topic of sex (with the exception of my 7 yr. old).  My older girl's are smart and have good common sense.  We have watched these commercials on TV (Mtv and regular channels) and none of us could believe that these were actually allowed to be aired.  Yes, it seems that sex sells and a lot of companies do push the envelope but Levi's has gone to far here.  They are gearing these ads to impressionable kid's.  So it's ok to sneak into someone's random apartment and have sex with a stranger?  This is not cool!!!  This is advocating sexual promiscuity, what about AIDS, STD's ect..... ??  Even my kid's and their friend's think the teens in the commercial's are acting like stupid slut's.  There are other ways to make a good commercial without being irresponsible.  Target has totally turned around their boring image with hip new TV spot's.  Good music, humor, intelligent fodder geared to the teen demographic would be a much better road to take when making a successful commercial.  I won't even buy Levi's now. Until they pull or change these spot's I think we'll be wearing the competition...even if it cost a little more.

My sisters and two of my friends and I got together in the front yard of our dorm and had a Levi's shredding party.  Several neighbors joined in and by the time we were through at least a hundred pairs of jeans had bit the dust.  They will be replaced by other jeans in the future.  This is our way of showing EXACTLY how we feel about Levis.  And before anyone says it...I bought the jeans with my own hard earned money.
