I was thinking of this on my last thread, sometimes I have great ideas but it's just too expensive!  So what would you buy for your loved ones if you could easily afford it ?

  • I would buy my dad a real nice camera however they are $500 plus for the SLR ones
  • I would buy my sister a spa vacation - she needs a break!
  • I'd buy my mom a spa vacation too
  • Heck, I'd jump on board with them on that vacation :)

What about you?

Oh, and I guess I'd buy my husband that flat screen TV he's been dreaming of!

  • I would hire a maid to clean my parents house.
  • I would buy my mom a new high end computer ~ she does a lot of genealogy research and scanning old family photos.
  • I would buy my dad the John Deere lawnmower that he's been wanting. My parents have a huge yard.
  • I would buy my brother the new Blackberry.
  • That leaves me ~ I would love to have a month's vacation in Hawaii. =)

Krislynn I'd love that vacation in Hawaii too!  I might be able to afford a trip there one day.  I probably could afford it now but then I'd be BROKE and we don't want that :)

Let's see, what else would I buy?  I'd buy my nepew a whole lot of stuff b/c he's so cute :)  He may only be 1 and 1/2, but hey, it's never too early to learn the computer!  Let's get him a laptop :-D

Take that Hawaiin vacation while you can "easily afford" it!

I would by my Shaybo (sister) a vacation without her 3 children.  Anywhere she wanted to go and I would go with her. That would be my gift to self.

I would pay off my oldest brother's Harley.

I would pay off my other brother's RV.

I would give my parents a vacation with all the children because we all live within 6 miles of each other but only get together at Christmas time--how sad that we are that busy ;+{

And for me because I obviously have come into some money somewhere to do all of the above: I would pay off my house and car!

Isn't it fun to dream :+)

Funny how we all think of vacations as the ideal gift for ourselves :)  I can't easily afford hawaii... I could, but then I would probably have to skip out on some bills afterward (and we don't want that)

Actually I changed my gift for myself .... I'd pay off my mortgage and car too!  Then my income would actually mostly go to savings instead of to bills and I'd save up for a great vacation :)

Totally off the subject but I was also pondering this today after I get a message from someone else.

There are over 200,000 people enrolled in Viewpoints.  They may not all be active but it's a large enrollment.  "Our gang" that hangs out at the boards and exchanges comments on reviews and so forth is probably about 20-30 people strong.  Have you ever wondered what the other people are doing?  We connect board to board thru another "friend" and then someone else follows.  We probably toggle back and forth between about 12-15 boards regularly.  Have you ever wondered if there are other subgroups out there and what kind of stuff they are doing to stay connected?  I enrolled thru sk-you.viewpoints NOT viewpoints so I was participating in different boards over there too.  I have noticed how different the topics are and then I thought, "What about all those other people..."

I had never been to the sears version of the site until now, I'm not entirely sure I get why it's separate since it seems a lot the same.  I hear that eventually they will be separate altogether, but I'm not sure what it's about!  Anyway, I often wonder what others are up to.. .but I think a lot of ppl on here simply don't think about the discussion boards until they are told about them.  Every so often I leave a message for a newbie telling them we are here and maybe 7 times out of 10 I see that newbie come over within a few days and join in.  I think there are a lot of ppl that DO post on the board, but many only post maybe a few times a month instead of daily like us addicted people :-D

I mostly think that if ppl aren't on our boards or on the other sk-you boards, they probably ONLY stay connected through comments on reviews.  Sometimes I go to a review and noticed a dozen back and forth comments between two people that really get into a conversation, so some people may just communicate that way a lot more than on the boards.

OMG, I didn't realize there were that many people on Viewpoints. I have visited some profiles on here and LOTS of them have no recent activity like in a year. Usually when I logon Viewpoints the first thing I go to are the boards. They are so much fun especially the games.

I had no idea there were 2 different sections to Viewpoints. Remember, when I could not find the board you started on Designing Women that was so confusing to me. Now we know about the SK-YOU Viewpoints. Yes, I've wondered and I've even been to other websites to see how they stay connected. They don't have as much fun as we do here at Viewpoints. =)

I don't get why there are separate versions either. It is really confusing to me. I agree with you about people on here not really thinking about the boards unless someone tells them about it. Some people may not feel comfortable chatting on the boards especially if they have never done it before. I try to mention the discussion boards when I welcome a newbie so they will be aware of them. On the other hand, I have noticed some on here keeping in touch (connected) by commenting back and forth just like you said.

Hmmm, I would take my whole family [kids, grandkids, etc.] to Merthyr Tydfill, Wales to see where their Father's ancestors came from and then we would go to Pelhrimov, Czech Republic to see where my ancestors came from... then, since we have all this new found money I would pay off all of their mortgages, build me a small home in Washington, Georgia [or near Helen]  and travel the world.  On second thought, maybe I wouldn't travel the world.  It is getting very scary out there.

You want to go to "Hell in" Georgia?  I had some friends that you to visit Helen all the time and he would come back and say I was in "Hell in" Georgia for the past few days but I survived :+)

Speaking of Wales: Do you remember that is probably how I first "met" you?  You had posted a review on an English video and I made some comments and we decided to have "tea."  Oh my I can't believe it was that far back.  Soooo glad I met you ;+)

This is my first and only social networking site and I was scared to death to even join.  I posted reviews for a while and comments on reviews.  I am here at the boards as a result of Jo inviting me to join them.

THANKS JO :+)

I'd buy my husband a round the world cruise (of course that would mean he wasn't working).

I'd buy my mom long term health insurance so she can stay at the Assisted Living facility she is at now.

I'd buy my youngest daugther a condo so she wouldn't have to pay rent.

I would:

  • get my mom's player piano repaired
  • enroll the girls into dance, music, swim, horseback riding, and whatever other kind of lessons or teams they'd want
  • buy more time to do the item just above this
  • fix everything so that my girls and I could eat whatever foods/drinks we like without having problems
  • buy a big, beautiful, hugable, lovable dog and we'd never have any allergy problems
  • buy a cure for ALS so that my friend doesn't have to watch her husband suffer with it and wonder if her kids will have it as well
  • buy a huge house that cleans itself and adopt any children that would love to have a home with me and the girls
  • buy my family members a dream trip

Katrena, when you find all that stuff, let me know, I might just save up for one or two of those things :)  Don't you wish money really could buy anything?  If it could, we would all save up to cure someone's cancer or to buy low-fat diet food that tastes exactly like real food :)  Obviously the first one would be more noble but hey, who doesn't wish they could eat cookies and ice cream every day without worrying about it?

I don't think about buying my parents a home since they built their home and have been there for their whole marriage so it's very customized now.  But I know my mom would like a hot tub (with a person to maintain it ) as long as it was inside!  In fact, that's what I want too :)

You may have just solved a family riddle... When my great great grandmother was alive her husband [my great great grandfather] who owned a Saloon outside Macon came in one day and placed a pile of money in her lap.  He then said, "I'm going to Atlanta and then I'm going to Hell and back."  That is what she remembered anyway... He was never seen again... maybe he was going to Helen!  LOL

Hell in, Georgia!! I've never heard this before and I live in Georgia. My brother had a shirt when he was a kid that read "My parents went to Helen, GA and all I got was this lousy t-shirt." =D

Katrena, I love your list. You gave me some ideas!!!

  • Buy a cure for RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) also known as CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) so that people including me with this chronic neurological syndrome will be pain free.
  • Buy an indestructible toy for my (2) Jack Russell Terriers to play with. They have torn every toy I have bought for them.
  • Hire a full-time chef to cook all of my wheat-free meals.

Oh I want that full time chef too!  Although I like to cook, I don't always like to cook new and healthy things b/c they are a lot of work.  I'd hire a private chef and fitness trainer and set up days for them to visit each of my family members each month too so we could all benefit.

I'm going off topic here: I went to Meez last night and created a new avatar. I really have loved your last 2 avatars. I wanted to check out how Meez was different from Yahoo's avatar. I LOVE Meez.

I need to get a fitness trainer for myself. Lately, I can't get in the mood to exercise.

Hey, as long as we're dreaming, we might as well not place limits on what money can do!

I go to Carolina Girls (review coming at some point) and guess what the owner's name is?  Gigi ;+)  When I joined 3 years ago I wanted a personal trainer because I was just being released from all my cancer treatment programs and they had given me permission to return to the gym.  I had to take a doctor's release and needed to speak with a trainer.  They introduced me to Gigi--it was too funny!

I love doing circuit training and I use the treadmill.  I don't have enough strength in my legs to do an elliptical machine :+(

I would buy a health insurance gift card =) Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is issuing discount Health Cards that may defray health care costs, ensuring more low cost health insurance in Florida with savings on the company's GoBlue plan for shoppers at Winn Dixie in October and CVS in November throughout the sunshine state:

I'd buy my dad the kidney that he needs.

I'd buy my mom a new car.

I'd buy my brother a self help book that details how to be a good dad without being a wuss LOL
