Gosh every July 3 we are home we have a big party. The beach on which we live has bonfires and fireworks up and down the coast. We're expecting about 25 people which is a lot of our small house! It's a lot of fun. Let's hope for nice weather.

I'm great friends with the couple next door and it so happens that the wife (Dorothy) will be celebrating her first July 4th as a US citizen. (She's from Canada and has been living in the US for 25-30 years.) Dorothy and her husband John are having a big party and I'll be going to that. Afterward, I'll be going to a large fireworks event that I have not gone to previously.

That's the plan, anyway.

We're going to the lake by my aunt for a day.  They apparantly have a boat parade and festivities.  Been to that lake million times but never for this occasion :)  Plus, I'm super excited to put my nephew in the lake for the first time since last year it didn't really work out!

Oooh sparklers!  Yeah.  My husband and I had a relaxing day at IKEA today and tomorrow we'll have a BBQ at my brother's house.  Looking forward for the weather to warm up a little here!

We were going to Florida for the week, but our plans changed. Bummer! We will be staying home probably BBQ'ing something on the grill and watching the Fireworks. It wouldn't be as fun as being on the beach, but we will still have fun.

I am so excited for this 4th of July. I have not seen an Independence Day fireworks display since 2002. I lived in states where there was drought and extreme fire danger. People were being prosecuted for throwing cigarette butts out the window, so needless to say, fireworks were definitely not an option.

I am going to a few festivals around Des Moines, then seeing the pyrotechnics in West DSM. Yay! Not bringing puppy, though. Too scary!

Happy day all -

The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday.  I love the patriotic music, the military bands, and all the pomp and circumstance that goes along with it.

My church did our annual Patriotic Program last Sunday and we have a mini-drama, posting of colors, recognize all branches of military, dignitaries and politicians.  No, Gov. Sanford wasn't there this year but Jake Knox and Congressman Joe Wilson were.

My favorite song is the Battle Hymn of the Republic and my favorite branch of the military is Marines because my father was a Marine and I loved his dress blues.

Sometimes we go to Ft. Jackson to watch the program and fireworks.  I'm not sure if my family is going.  If not, we will probably end up at one of my brother's house.  I live in the country away from all the city lights so the fireworks from my neighbor across the way light up the night sky in a way that you think you are getting a glimpse of Heaven.

To all, have fun, remember our soldiers who can't be with their families to celebrate and if you get around fireworks please be careful.  Oh, and say a little prayer for our country.  God has blessed America time and time again but she sure does need it now.
