Did you hear about the 6 year old child in Colorado who was feared to be in a wayward hot air balloon yesterday afternoon. Apparently he was hiding in the attic because his father yelled at him earlier in the day. Of course this was discovered after shutting down the airspace over Denver, involving the air national guard, police and garnering international coverage.

The older children reported that they youngest child was inside when the family set the balloon off for an experimental flight. [This is a revision as video was just released showing the family letting the balloon off, rather than it just taking off because it was not properly secured-- as reported earlier].

When asked, Falcon (yes Falcon) said he was staying in the attic for a T.V. show.

So who do you believe, was this a publicity stunt organized by the family (storm chasers, participants on Wife Swap). Or did the family really not know where their son was?

If my young son was in an unstable flying balloon drifting away, the thought of calling ANYONE but 911 would never enter my mind. He called two people before 911, it was reported. The FAA and a TV station.

This man has a history of doing crazy things and it appears he has a violent past. He sounds like he's off his rocker to be honest. I do feel sorry for all the kids but especially Falcon who just did what he was told and innocently gave away the hoax later.

Jon and Kate seem like the best parents around compared to the Heenes!

rust, with parents like his, I imagine he already gets teased.  I heard they were nuts on "Wife Swap" although I haven't seen it.

Meowmom, It would never cross my mind to call FAA even now that I know what it stands for.  In a true emergency, when one is filled with Panic, 911 is the only thing they can usually remember.

Any updates on the story from anyone?  I'm guessing it will be some time before we hear the results.

I believe it was an publicity stunt.  In a time where reality TV overshadows the airwaves, it seems more and more people want their 15 minutes of shame, opps, I mean fame.  I understand if the husband and wife wanted to be on TV, but please keep your children out of your ploy for time on the air.

Well as I understand it, they already were on Reality TV in Wife Swap but must not have gotten the "fame" they wanted from it.

While I love Reality TV, I prefer the competition shows over the "Real life" shows.  I often wonder how real the shows like Wife Swap are.  Are there really people that nutty out there?

Unfortunately, viva, there are really nutty people out there.  Look (if you dare) at Octomom, Jon & Kate, the two Coreys, and all those fools who go on Wife Swap and ridiculous shows like that.

I really wish the genre had not taken off when shows like Survivor became so trendy.

Ahh The two Coreys! I actually got into that show. I always wondered who molested those guys when they were younger especially Feldman since he was close to Michael Jackson as a kid and, well, ANYWAY.

In this case, they wanted a reality show showing their experiments and stunts as well as how they AND THEIR KIDS storm chase. The guy is a nut and, if his wife went along with it, she is too.

I watch reality TV but I prefer competition types like Idol, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Project Runway and similar shows. I do watch some crazy stuff like the looking for love shows but they're all ridiculous and I watch for comic relief.  But look at Megan Wants a Millionaire. One of the finalists (Ryan Jenkins) is/was a murderer! I really believe that someone will end up killing someone else on one of these expose or love shows. I'm amazed it hasn't happened already. (I know about the Jenny Jones case.)

But these shows will go on as long as people watch them and I admit, I get a guilty pleasure from real Chance at Love, My Antonio, For the Love of Ray J and I even watched all three Rock of Loves. Heh.

Funny thing is, Survivor (that really started it all) isn't nearly as "real" as people think. And, I suspect, nether are any of the reality shows.

I have the screenplay of a movie Corey Haim did (Silver Bullet) and a DVD of Corey Feldman's best performance (Teddy Duchamps in Stand By Me).

I actually thought both of them would have good careers as they grew older, but like many juvenile actors they didn't quite make it.

I don't watch any of the talent competition shows but at least they're not a new genre. Talent shows have been around since the Golden Age of Radio and probably trace their roots to pre-broadcast era contests in towns and cities all over the U.S.

The others....I guess I am not adventurous enough nor desirous to "follow the herd" TV-wise...but I'd rather watch Ishtar than watch programs such as Megan Wants a Millionaire - which says a lot about Megan's priorities, in my opinion.

Oh I didn't know what you meant by the Two Coreys but now I do.  I don't think I ever caught that.  I try to stick to NBC, ABC, Fox and CBS (and MTV) because otherwise it's easy to get reality overload!  Every channel has something now.

Yep I love the competition shows - DWTS has taken a back seat this week.  SYTYCD is crazy good but I'm mad they did it in the fall when I JUST Finished recaping every episode in the summer!  Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race are all can't miss for me.  Yes I also love the Bachelor even though I know it's so so wrong.

I am not interested in seeing balloon dad storm chase!  Especially if they take their kids along.  Awful.  There has to be some law against taking kids up in that homemade thing.  While I do watch some of those shows about real life jobs and such, it's usually only here and there that I catch an episode.

We should not have gotten on the topic of reality tv ;)  I'm the Detroit Reality TV Examiner at Examiner.com but currently taking a hiatus because my recaps stopped going to google.  Anyway, my point is I could go on and on and on about the subject so I'll just stop now.

Back to balloon boy.  This morning the radio guy said it could be up to a week before we hear anything new, but I'm surprised if we even hear it that soon.  Anyone catch any other news?

At one point last week, the father held a press conference and said that he doesn't watch cable TV and didn't know what people were saying about him so he was leaving a box with a slit in it on his steps and people could submit questions to him and he would have a press conference later and answer the questions.

He's crazy.

The second press conference never happened because it was announced that he was going to be arrested and they were just deciding on what charges would be lodged. I guess he heard that through two cans and a string since he apparently couldn't get that news on TV (or the net although he has computers).

I think that these parents are a terrible example for their children.  Glory hogs and wasteful of public resources.  At one point (not sure whether it has changed or not after having admission of a hoax), the public resources were NOT going to be billed to these people.  They wasted public resources and time and the general good will and concern of the public. . .in these days of economic problems, even at the civic level, this was a very thoughtless approach to "fame" (more like infamy, if you ask me)!

We watch Wipe Swap, but I sure don't remember this couple. You would think the celebrity exposure from doing a television show would be enough for them.

My guilty pleasure is "The Girls Next Door." Please don't tell anyone.

Patty, you mean two cans and a string like those soup commercials :-D  He sounds insane.  How could someone get onto Wife Swap if they don't have news, tv, internet, whatever!

magie, they did waste a lot of resources plus had millions of us worried about the boy!  When the balloon landed and it was empty, I kind of thought hte boy was ok because I didn't hear any stories stating "the parents are devestated".  I felt like if the boy was really missing from the balloon, the parents would have been freaking out.

Rust, I admit to watching reruns of The Girls when it was on a marathon a few times this summer.  I think it's just a general amazement of their lifestyle, and the money they spend!  That said, I watched an episode of "Krista" and hated it.  She was so annoying, I don't want to watch a show about her selling her stuff in a garage sale and cleaning up after her dog.

Yeah, he says he doesn't get cable and doesn't watch TV but he managed to be on wife swap so I am betting he watches TV like the rest of us. Apparently he was really nutty on Wife Swap. I don't watch that show but wish I had seen that one.

I sometimes watch Nanny 911 though. Wow, those kids are BAD! How a nanny can change an entire family dynamic in a week or so is beyond me. But it's kind of interesting to watch now and then.

Nanny 911 or SuperNanny are both great!  I know more about Supernanny though and she actually gives great tips about raising kids so it's a good reason to watch.  Maybe these balloon parents should watch that show to learn how to raise their kids!
