Are you obligated to come back to a thread you posted on?

Sometimes, I'll post something on a thread and I know it's emotionally charged, and people will probably reference it. Then, later that day, I don't really care so much. I don't regret what I posted, but I don't feel like talking about it anymore. I don't feel like digging through all the posts to see whether or not someone cared enough to reply to my original post, even if they come in my email.

Remember on Seinfeld when Elaine used to be anti-fur? Jerry asked her some episodes later if she was avoiding someone because they wear fur. She was slouched on the couch and said: "fur.. eh... who has the energy for it anymore?"

It happens to me during conversations, too! I just feel like I said my piece, and I don't want to belabor the point.anymore. Do you feel obligated to come back and back to threads you posted in? Do you feel abandoned if you said something and no one comes back to reply?

(I wonder if I'll get sick of this thread... XD )

I do not feel obligated to go back, but if I cared enough initially to make a comment I tend to return to that thread to learn other viewpoints--whether they agree or differ from mine--time permitting!!.  I try not to phrase things that I would find later difficult to chew or swallow.  Likewise, I never intend to insult or discredit.  Occasionally, there are some threads to which I would rather give a tactful 1:1 private, helpful response to the poster.

Nah, I don't feel obligated to return.  There have been a few times I really got sucked into the discussion, but by and large, I post my opinion and move along.  I have a short attention span anyway.  I know a lot of people develop relationships with people online, but I don't chat/post on boards enough to feel a connection most of the time.

I don't feel obligated, but I'm usually curious to see what others had to say.  However, lately there are so many threads here that I can't even find nor remember threads that I talked in so often I just give up.  I wish there was a "My Discussions" link to narrow discussions down to ones that I have posted in, it would make it much easier.

People shouldn't feel abandoned or feel bad if they don't get a direct response.  With so many posts and so many threads everyday, it's hard to keep up!  I usually don't read every response to a thread and I definitely don't read every thread on here.  There are just too many.  Generally I read until I see a posting that i feel like responding too - then I might skip the rest and go respond to that one or two.

It depends on the topic of the thread. If it's something I'm really interested in, I check it again. Others ask a specific question, I'll answer, and never return.

There's always the exception to the rule. Sometimes when I return to a thread that I didn't think would go anywhere else, I'll be pleasantly surprised that someone has added an unexpected twist and I will participate again.

I try not to go back because the politically-centered threads are the ones where I am always in the minority.  It gets old after awhile.

You may not be quite the minority you think you are. A lot of people read the political threads but don't write much. I enjoy reading your posts.

Please, speak up! I'm often in the minority too [sounds of grunts of agreements from others], but sometimes it takes extra explanation to convey what I'm really trying to say.

Variety is the spice of life! If you really mean what you say... say it!

I sometimes go back, sometimes don't. As some have said, politic debates get old and after a while, it's just the same opinions going round and round. Same with any of the "controversial threads". I will perhaps say what I feel a time or two then leave. I mean, what else is there to say? I may read the thread again but don't stress it if I don't.

If I am really interested in a topic, I will return and try to keep up but I don't feel an obligation to.

I often find myself in the minority or, even worse in a way, in the middle not having a strong opinion so it's somewhat useless for me to even say anything at times. I may but I rarely get too involved in the thread.

Thanks for your responses, it's good to get a gauge. I don't really post on boards other than these.

Yeah, i will do a one to one, also if I am interested in someone in particular's view.
