3. Do you like your handwriting? No, I'm a lefty
Awwww...what's wrong with being a lefty?  I love my dad's lefty handwriting - actually I love all lefty handwriting.  I'm not a strong southpaw, but I am able to write with both hands - my dad refused to let us use our left hands because of the stigma with which he grew-up.  But learning things from a lefty I guess, I sort-of learned to be lefty/righty, LOL.  So, I'm a hodge-podge kind of hand.  Many sports I'm a lefty, drafing I use both, some art activities both, cursive and signature righty, various other left or right depending on what I'm doing, LOL.

1. Were you named after anyone?   My dad.  Not my first name, but my middle name.

2. When was the last time you cried?     I don't remember the date...probably when I had an unexpected argument with an online friend and she and I almost parted ways.  We didn't, but it was a pretty bleak moment. (This wasn't the same person I alluded to in my blog here several weeks ago.)

3. Do you like your handwriting? Ugh, no! I have lousy penmanship.

4. What is your favorite lunch meat?  Bologna (when I bother to get it).

5. Do you have kids?  No

6. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?  Probably; I've been told I'm a nice guy.

7. Do you use sarcasm a lot?  In my reviews of a very bad movie, yes. Sometimes it'll slip out in real life, but otherwise I tend not to be sarcastic.

8. Do you still have your tonsils? Yes

9. Would you bungee jump?   No

10. What is your favorite cereal?  Either Golden Grahams or any of the Cap'n Crunch varieties.

11. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?  No. All my shoes are slip-ons/loafers. I can tie my shoes, but I prefer shoes that have zero laces.

12. Do you think you are strong? I'm sort of strong, physically speaking. Not incredibly strong, but strong enough. Emotionally, I tend to waver between being brave (facing Mom's difficult aging) and not-so-brave (fear of romantic rejection).

13. What is your favorite ice cream?  Neapolitan

14. What is the first thing you notice about people? Their gender, like bkovacs said. Then their looks.

15. Red or pink?  Red

16. What is the least favorite thing about yourself? I am way too sentimental and fall in love too easily.

17. Who do you miss the most? My dad, who died before I was two, my maternal grandparents, who also passed away, Mary Joe (my beloved yellow Labrador), and (in the I-miss-people-who-aren't-dead category), I miss friends I haven't seen in years because they moved to other cities/states.  I won't miss Sarah Palin, but I will miss Tina Fey doing her Sarah Palin impersonation!

18. What color pants and shoes are you wearing?  Khaki pants, not wearing shoes (it's nighttime)

19. What was the last thing you ate?   Eggos Cinnamon and Apple Flavored Waffles and hot cocoa; Mom's too tired to cook and I'm not the neatest of chefs, so we often improvise "dinners" like that.

20. What are you listening to right now? Mom's TV off in the distance, my PC's fan, and my fingers tapping the keyboard.

21. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?  Turqoise or Aquamarine Blue

22. Favorite smells?  Fresh coffee, apple pie baking, a beautiful woman wearing a dab of not-too-strong perfume, and meat on the barbecue grill.

23. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone? A friend of my mom's, who called to tell us about something on the TV news.

24. Do you like the person who sent this?  Don't know the person, so I have no opinion.

26. Do you wear contacts?  No. I wear glasses when I'm at my PC or watching movies.

28. Scary movies or happy endings?    Both. Depends on my mood, really. And I prefer endings that make the audience think, really think about the movie's meaning. (A perfect example: 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Stanley Kubrick.)

30. What color shirt are you wearing?  A white T-Shirt with the Jamaican flag on it

31. Summer or winter?  Summer

32. Hugs or kisses?   Kisses

33. Favorite dessert?  Apple pie a la mode

34. What book are you reading now? Several. Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry, Dec. 7, 1941: The Day the Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor by Gordon Prange, Katherine Dillon, and Donald Goldstein, and Greetings from Jamaica, Wish You Were Queer, by Marie San Giovanni

35. What is on your mouse pad?  No mouse pad.

36. What did you watch on TV last night?  Two episodes of Season Five of 24 on the DVD player.

37. Favorite Sound?  Well, of the ones I can mention here, the sound of rain (but not thunder) falling outside.

38. Rolling stones or Beatles?  Beatles

39. What is the farthest you have been from home?  Within the U.S., Ft. Collins, Colorado.  Outside the U.S., Granada, Spain.

40. Do you have a special talent?  I can write.  I've been a "writer" since I was a Staff Writer for my high school student newspaper (Entertainment section), and although I have written poetry, short stories, columns, editorials, and news stories, my specialty is - you guessed it - reviews.

41. What time is it now? 9:06 PM EST

I struggled growing up wanting/craving that special bond with my mother but she didn't want it so I bonded with the older ladies in my church.  5 years ago my mother had a stroke that really messed her up.  She has yet to acknowledge I am her daughter or what my name is.  I have given up ever having that special relationship with her but I will forever be grateful that that dreaded night did not become tragic.  We still have my mother with us and she is no longer as mean and hateful.  Now she thinks everything is "purty and cute" and she is more tolerant.   Speaking of mother's; my birthday will be on Mother's Day in 2009 and I don't have any children :+(

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Maybe you'll be able to gain a better relationship with her now. I'm sure you'll have children one day! ;o)

I did too. She claims because my grandmother lived with us she was never able to be my mother. Now at 78 and living near me in an Assisted Living facility we have a great relationship and I enjoy her company. Still (like my own daughters) I won't crawl up to her and put my head on her lap.

Oh, they have a pine-scent in a can you can spray on your faux tree! Just so you know!

Wow, you made the 2004 and 2008 Olympics trials? CONGRATZ!! :D

Ooh, I saw that movie before "A tree grows in Brooklyn." I didn't see the beginning but I liked the movie. Is the book the same as the movie or a little different? Hmm.. I'm thinking if I should get the book.

OMG! I can't believe I didn't catch that one! I've not been feeling well today and cannot concentrate as intently as usual. . . I'm sooo sorry! Those ARE AWESOME accomplishments! You think you might try again in 2012, wildcatkatie!?!

Of #14, I do the same thing. . . Does I don't know if that makes me untrusting or over-protective; it stems from a childhood schoolmate issue, though. . .

#39, I'm an artist, too! My bio is on my profile and I have some pics of my work. Illustration art on canvas, some sketches and I make jewlery. . . I'd love to see some of your work! Do you have pics of some pieces posted?

#6: I'm clinically diagnosed OCD

#10: I think I put that as one of my faves too

#28: I love the Last Mimzy--I got it last year for Christmas

1. Were you named after anyone? Anna is a grandmother and aunt's name.  Leigh was my father's (Lee)

2. When was the last time you cried? Today when Paisleigh called and wanted come home from a slumber party so her Mommy wouldn't be home alone.  (More details on a comment posted to Gigi)

3. Do you like your handwriting? I guess but I don't write that much because of that wonderful invention called a computer!

 4. What is your favorite lunch meat? hamburgers or hotdogs.  Oh, do you mean like coldcuts?  That would be ham.

5. Do you have kids? Seven!!  Brantleigh is 10, Christian (9), Jansen (7), my triplets all girls will be 5 on the 25th (Ainsleigh, Paisleigh, and Avonleigh), and our baby, Braeden just turned 3 in October.

. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?  Of coursre I would!

7. Do you use sarcasm a lot? I try not to because I'm afraid if someone takes it to heart it may hurt them.

8. Do you still have your tonsils? No, tonsils and adnoids came out when I was 6 or 7.

 9. Would you bungee jump? I did twice--where they wrap you in a blanket style harness.  I was bundled up with my husband once and a brother the other time.

10. What is your favorite cereal? With 7 kids in the house I eat whatever they are eating and it has to be sweet!

11. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off? No, I usually use one foot to push the other one off from the heel.  But honestly I don't wear tennis shoes except for at the gym.

 12. Do you think you are strong?  I guess.  I know my faith is strong.  I'm not sure about physically but I guess if I had to move something or get something done I would probably be able to.

13. What is your favorite ice cream? Too many to list but I love Coldstone Creamery and the Marble Slab.

14. What is the first thing you notice about people? Whether or not they offer to shake hands with me when they meet me.  Then I look at their face and see the teeth, eyes and nose (is it straight or crooked?)

15. Red or pink? Never thought of that before.  I guess more red than pink but I can wear either.

16. What is the least favorite thing about yourself? I think I'm too tall for a girl.  I'm 5'9" and feel like a skyscraper.  But at least Shelton is taller than me!  He's 6' 4"--yeah, our children are going to be tall!

17. Who do you miss the most? My parents live in Dallas and we only get to see them about four times a year.  They will be here for Thanksgiving!  I also had a younger sister (Ginger) who was killed in a car accident while we were in college. I hate that my children never got to know her.

18. What color pants and shoes are you wearing? I have a long denim skirt on.  No shoes.  We remove shoes in the mudroom--no shoes allowed in the main part of the house.

19. What was the last thing you ate? I ate the California Dreaming salad at California Dreaming with a side of creamed spinach.  The salad is big enough for 2 so I brought half of it home with me and I will either finish it off later this evening or tomorrow for lunch.

 20. What are you listening to right now? My daughter Paisleigh and her friend Brooklynn are sitting on a chaise lounge laughing and being silly.  They are waiting for me to get off the computer because it is almost bathtime and they are getting in my jacuzzi.  I have to run it for them--they are only four and five.

21. If you were a crayon, what color would you be? coral or cirulean blue

22. Favorite smells? my husband, my children AFTER they have bathed, fresh linens, peppermint, and fresh flowers.  Oh, and of course I like my perfumes.  Otherwise, I wouldn't be wearing them.

23. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone? Brooklynn's mother called about 30 minutes to see how she was doing.

24. Eye color? blue blue--like the fake contact lenses but mine are natural

25. Do you wear contacts? Oh, funny--I used to but then I had the Lasik surgery

26. Favorite food? My family says I'll eat anything that doesn't eat me first but I won't eat Chinese food.  I try to eat at least one salad a day and I love sub sandwiches and pizza.  Anything my mother or husband prepares.

27. Scary movies or happy endings? In college I would watch scary movies but not anymore.  I love life and need happy endings.  There is so much bad news in our world today that happy endings just gives me hope for a better tomorrow.

28. Last movie you watched? In a theater: The Billy Graham movie.  Tonight Paisleigh, Brooklynn and I will watch the new Tinkerbell movie.  I hope this survey isn't much longer because they are really wanting to get in the tub!

29. What color shirt are you wearing? black shirt with a red holiday vest and leopard (faux) fur collar.  I am still dressed for the birthday party!

30. Summer or winter? Both: summertime we take cruises and go to the beach and wintertime we go to the mountains and ski resorts.

31. Hugs or kisses? Both--there's nothing sweeter than a wet kiss or a hug from your child, just because.  I love to snuggle with my husband and children and when my parents are in town I still curl up in my mother's lap and let her play with my hair.  Call me sentimental--I know!

32. Favorite dessert? Red velvet cake (homemade not boxed)

33. What book are you reading now? Every morning when I rise and before I go to bed I read my Bible.  With seven children I don't have much time on my hands to read.  It takes an eternity for me to read a book.  The four younger children still love to have us read to them so of course, Little Golden Books, Bible stories for children and most Disney style books that are from movies.

4. What is on your mouse pad? My husband and I each have laptops and we have one family computer in the den.  That mouse pad has a portrait of all seven children at Easter 2006.  Our nanny, Caroline, also has a computer in her room and she has a picture of her and all four girls on her mousepad.  They were all dressed up as Disney princesses.

35. What did you watch on TV last night? Brantleigh, Ainsleigh, Avonleigh and Paisleigh stayed on the Disney channel most of the night.  I finally went into the sitting room off my bedroom and watched various shows on the cooking channels and tried to find a movie but couldn't.  Oh, I did catch an episode of Petticoat Junction playing on some old movie network.

 36. Favorite Sound? my children's laughter, my husband when he tells me he loves me and the voice of any of my family on the phone.

 37. Rolling stones or Beatles? Neither--I was an 80s kid. I loved Menudo and New Kids On the Block.

38. What is the farthest you have been from home? I honeymooned in Paris and London.  We have made several trips to Australia, the Bahamas, St. Lucius, and one educational trip to Rome.  I would love to go to Switzerland or even Hollywood!

 39. Do you have a special talent? piano, dabble in the violin, and I can make some pretty neat jewelry when I sit down with the girls and play with their bead collection.

  40. What time is it now? 8:07 eastern time and it it time for me to get Paisleigh and Brooklynn in the tub.  Once in that jacuzzi I can probably read for a while becuase I will have to force them out!

I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me and my family!  ~Anna

Every day is interesting in our house but we have been blessed with all healthy children, they are very talented and well mannered.  We have learned how to balance all the professional social settings with a warm homefront.

Our interesting time at Christmas is the weekend before.  We throw a big Christmas party for family and friends so everyone can exchange gifts at one time.  We invite our friends and their children and then each child is allowed to invite two other guests.  Our house is full of children playing.  The climax of the evening is getting all the children to the conservatory and then Santa makes his debut and passes out all the gifts.

One year when Avonleigh (she's a triplet) was about 2 she made her way to the conservatory.  She fell asleep on the floor near a pile of presents and we all picked and said that was the best gift ever.

Don't worry we discovered where she was really quick and kept checking in on her.  So many of the guests were wanting to get pictures so we didn't want to disturb our little angel.

Thanks, cmohr80!! Sorry it took me so long to respond to your post. I don't think 2012 is in my sight, unfortunately. I swam competitively starting at age 8 and my last meet was Division 1 NCAAs in March. I just started training w/ a Masters team again (2x per week, haha), but in order to make Olympic Trials I'd probably have to get back up to training as much as I was when I first made it -- 25 hours per week (in water, weight lifting, running, etc). Sadly, I don't have the time now that I'm in the "real world" and out of college. I'm thinking of trying a triathlon, though... I'll let you know if that ever happens!!

Thanks for the congrats! It was a really great experience. I only swam in 2004. I decided to stop swimming in March of this year after NCAAs and Olympic Trials was in June. Now I wish I'd kept swimming, but in March I was ready for a break and a "real" college experience (aka late nights and no 6am workouts) after 15 years of competitive swimming.

I've actually never seen the "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" movie, but I'm in the last chapter of the book and it's pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of it the first few chapters, but it really picks up toward the end and the entire story wraps together pretty well. I should probably write a review of it when I'm done!! Definitely worth the read.

25 hours per week!?! Gee willakers! You know, I read that Michael Phelps burns 4000 calories in every workout, which is everyday for him, so he has to eat 4000 calories just to maintain his weight!!! Isn't that crazy!?! Do you know if every training Olympic swimmer/athlete has to burn a similar amount of calories? I even heard similar stories about sport athletes ike NFL and NBA players. I'd imagine that if they're not re-trained to eat and exercise at a normal pace when they retire, their weight could get out of control!
