The Tudors Review Summary

Leave it to the Showtime Network to present Henry VIII as a young, thin king and lots of "lovin" all around in the cable-only series The Tudors. Very loosely based on the reign of young Henry VIII, The Tudors explores the politics, lives and sexuality of the Tudor Dynasty. Presenting many facets of Henry's life "Jonathon Rhys Meyers stars as a young Henry VIII and is impressive in the way he goes from authoritative to sexy to angry and scary". The show mixes historical fact with quite a bit of fancy as screenwriter Michael Hirst " will occasionally borrow historical fact and then embellish from there, throwing in a ravishing in the local woods to add some spice." The Tudors also "explores the intrigue of the royal court, politics, and religion of the time." So, if you are in the mood for a little history mixed with a little sex and a little make-believe at the expense of royalty, The Tudors might be the show you roll out the royal carpet for.

A few months ago after reading The Other Boleyn Girl, I found myself totally obsessed with Henry VIII.  I could not get enough about the history and juicy details of the Tudor reign.

So you can imagine my surprise when one night I was flipping channels and stumbled across the first episode of the first...

The title says it all...this show is Elizabethan soft core porn.  Not that I'm complaining, necessarily.  This HBO show purports to tell the story of Henry VIII, beginning around the time that the King first met Anne Boleyn, while still married to Catherine of Aragon.  It does, sort of.  The story...

Question:  What does the musician Prince and actor Jonathon Rhys Meyers have in common?

Answer:  They both credibly display badass attitude while draped in fur, purple velvet and ruffles.  (That must be a challenge to say the least)

The Showtime miniseries, The Tudors, is an entertaining and passionate look at the life of King Henry VIII.  Rhys Meyers portrays the title character and inhabits his role completely and confidently.  Although there are grand gestures and explosive tirades, Rhys Meyers also exposes Henry's more tender and nuanced feelings.  At times, the king wears his heart...

I was never a history buff when in school. So, I really knew very little about King Henry VIII, except that he had a bunch of wives and he had most of them killed. Not a great guy. When I saw the previews for The Tudors, I thought the actor looked really hot, and thought I'd give it a try.
I was hooked from the beginning.

Premise of The Tudors
(to save time this is a BRIEF overview of Seasons 1-2)
It is,obviously, the story of King Henry VIII, played beautifully by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The show begins as he is already King, married to his deceased brothers wife, Katherine of Aragon. They have a young...

This is a story of King Henry VIII. A womanizer, a killer, not true to friends. This is intense, I love this, King Henry VII was a King who was married to a lovely lady, (Queen Elizabeth) ,had a baby (not a boy), had a lot of mistresses, fell in love with this evil mistress (Mary). Ends up dumping Queen Elizabeth for Miss Evil, marries her, divorces Elizabeth, has all the Catholics in a uproar, kills a couple of friends for not believing that divorcing Queen Elizabeth is wrong. Kicks the Queen out, for Miss evil's request. The King takes his daughter from Queen Elizabeth, and stores her in some...

The first thing you may notice when watching this Showtime series is that it is filled with inaccuracies based on historical facts.  That aside, this is a lushly made soap opera series filled with exciting characters, intrigue, sex, love, betrayal, and Jonathen Rhys-Meyer as a young King Henry VIII.  What more could you want.  The acting is very good and Jonathen is supremely belivable as the autocratic, selfish, self centered, loving, and totally enigmatic King.  I enjoyed the series a great deal.  I would have given it 5 stars if it had not been so blatantly out of touch with real events,... review »

The Tudors mini-series on SHOWTIME has been very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. My husband enjoys it also. I'm a big history buff so something of this nature is easy for me to tune into but I dont always stick around. The costumes in this film are very impressive to say the least each and every one is prettier than the next. While I will admit that the show doesnt always stick to the facts and I"m sure it's full of situations that never took place...but it works. It's very entertaining and close enough to the true story that it keeps you intrigued and waiting for more.

It was made to entertain...

'The Tudors is a surprisingly opulent Showtime series of the court and times of Henry the VIII. The acting is superb and the story is engrossing. The costumes and sets are richly detailed.

The only downside to this series is that it feels comfortable adding details that have no basis in fact. The story of the life of Henry the VII is interesting enough that it doesn't need to be altered. I hope that the writers will stop rewriting history and especially, stop combining the actions of two different people into one character because it mars what would otherwise be a perfect series.

Although they're a little creative with the historical facts, this is a great drama for anyone into the British Royals. So far focused mainly on King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn, The Tudors shows just how egotistical and power hungry Henry was. Jonathyn Rhys Meyers and Natalie Dormer are very believable as Henry and Anne.

I hate everything representing that period in history EXCEPT that incredible actor Jonathon Rhys Meyer. Spectacular actor, extraordinary good looks..what more could you ask for. Catch him in some of his other movies....he is phenomenal. Too bad this one is about a time period when a lot of crazy nasty  brutal things occurred.

I love this show! I missed season 1 last year. However, when I found it on as a freebe I watched the entire 1st season in one sitting!
I have been a fan of Rhys-Meyers since he was in Lion in the Winter a few years ago and of course in MI3. Although it was a very small part.
This season, his portrayal of King Henry the Eighth has grown even more powerful. He truly has risen to the challenge of portraying the King as he has realized the true power and might he possesses as both King of England and Head of the Church!
Henry Cavil has also risen to the challenge of his changing character. I look for...

I was hooked from the first episode of the Tudors! Great storytelling , beautiful costuming and scenery. I know it is not historically correct but an amazing show. The intrigue, plots and subplots going on are what kept me watching. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is mesmerizing as Henry VII .I cannot wait until the next season starts. I will miss seeing Natalie Dormer as Anne though.

I love this show. Besides the fact that the actors and actresses are very good, it gives you a glimpse into history.  Bravo Showtime.  I never knew the real story of King Henry until I saw this show.  I can not imagine my Sunday night being complete without it.

Brillant new twist to Tudor England! This is the must watch new series of the season, The actors are well chosen and brillant in their performances. Some of the storylines stray from actual history but is easily over-looked. It is very racy so not appropriate for children.

I absolutely love the Tudors! Awesome acting, story and costumes. Prior to the 2nd season beginning a few weeks ago, I actually went to the movie theater to see "The Other Boleyn Girl" and purchase the book!
