After using Servicemagic many, many times, the last people they sent was the last straw. They sent me a clumsy non-caring contractor who wouldn't stop damaging things. They damaged the hard wood floor. They damaged the new cabinets and made a run for it when we kept complaining. What really shows the deception and lack of integrity of this contractor is when I made a complaint to the BBB, they even denied doing anything wrong after us submitting many high res color pics. Amazing. And what's really amazing is how servicemagic hide my complaint about him and his crew. They also hide another persons complaint. One day it's there, the next, it's gone. They said it's because the contractor had 'issues' with my (and probably his) complaint. Stay away from servicemagic. They are not out there to help the consumer, just themselves. Their so called prescreening is a joke. They check for license, bond and insurance...in other words they do nothing to check the competance of the contractor they send you.

As a contractor Service Magic is damaging as well. I started with this service in Nov 08 under the impression I would be receiving qualified leads. They had a disclaimer for payment from clients but the sales people stated the leads would be qualified, ready to go customers. I paid their fee & received 'leads' almost immediately. This was a bathroom remodel looking for budget numbers. All he wanted was a ballpark figure for summer 2009. That cost me $25 The second lead was for a roof replacement. We went to the site to do an estimate. This roof was a large, steep Victorian that needed replacement years ago. After speaking with the owner I knew there was no funds. I sent them to the County Dept of Community Development for a grant and offered to put a tarp on for $500. She didn't even have the money for that. I paid another $25 for her call. Our next lead was similar so I complained to Customer Service and they suggested changing my demographic. I did and received a request to modify a trailer who's floor was failing (not likely to have funding), several other leads fishing for prices and one viable lead which (also provided to 3 or 4 other local contractors). Service Magic has no idea who their customers are and if they are qualified. In January & $500 later I said enough was enough. I have been receiving Spam, 'Surveys' and phone calls from Customer Service to the point of harassment trying to get my business back. I paid for something they implied in their sales & did not provide and I get harassed for discontinuing service. The $500 for 'advertising' with Service Magic & provided $0 in sales and only one qualified lead.

Absolutely, testifiably, TRUE. Do NOT use this company unless you don't mind getting ripped off.
