xmypridex says "GREAT FAMILY FILM" about Night at the Museum

Author Milan Trenc's tall tale about the supernatural goings-on at New York's American Museum of Natural History -- in which every statue and figurine mysteriously comes to life at night -- makes for a perfectly endurable 32-page children's book.

In padding out that premise to accommodate a 108-minute feature, scribes Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon have supplied some perfunctory conflict, a creaky father-son drama and a few twists to explain the nocturnal phenomenon. But unlike the recent "Zathura," which elaborated on its slim picture-book conceit with warmth, emotion and narrative surprise, "Night at the Museum" never feels like more than an excuse to show off the latest CGI advancements.

Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is a lazy dreamer whose inability to hold down a job or an apartment is taking a toll on his relationship with his son, Nick (Jake Cherry). With the encouragement of his way-too-understanding ex-wife Erica ("24's" Kim Raver), Larry gets serious about his job search and...
...

xmypridex says "how could you NOT love this movie?" about The Ultimate Gift DVD

A CHRISTMAS STORY:

Any nine-year-old kid in the '40s would passionately want, for Christmas, a Daisy Brand Red Ryder repeating BB carbine with a compass mounted in the stock. Of course. And of course, his mother would say, "You'll shoot your eye out." That's what mothers always said about BB guns. I grew up in downstate Illinois. The hero of this film, Ralphie, grew up in Gary, Ind. Looking back over a distance of more than thirty years, the two places seem almost identical -- Middle American outposts where you weren't trying to keep up with the neighbors, you were trying to keep up with Norman Rockwell.

The movie is based on a nostalgic comic novel named 'In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash,' by Jean Shepherd, the radio humorist, who also narrates it. He remembers the obvious things, like fights with the bullies at school, and getting into impenetrable discussions with younger kids who do not quite know what all the words mean. He remembers legendary schoolteachers and hiding in the...
...

xmypridex says "horror movies in the 70's ruled!" about Top Ten Horror Movies of the '70s

25 October 2008 by Michael DeZubiria

Many people consider the 1970s to be the high point of horror movies. It was a formative decade for a genre that had been around for more than half a century because filmmakers were beginning to shake off the censorship restrictions of earlier years and had not yet succumbed to the bad CGI and teen cuteness that ruined so many horror films in later decades. So, here in no particular order (other than numerical:), are my top 10 horror movies of the 70s...

10. Satan's School For Girls (1973), Unrated, 78 mins.

Ok, so I'll start with one you've never heard of. Satan's School For Girls is not a great horror movie, it's actually a made-for-tv horror thriller, but while the bad parts are pretty bad, the good parts are creepy as hell. A young girl's mysterious death seems to leave no explanation other than one involving the supernatural, so the police quickly close the case and move on, leaving the girl's sister to take the investigation into her own hands....
...

xmypridex says "IF YOU LOVED THE SHOW, YOU WILL LOVE THE MOVIE" about Sex and The City - The Movie

i loved this movie. if you watch the show, you will love this movie. i also think if you are a 30 something woman, or a 20 something woman, you will love the movie anyway! it is romantic, funny, and really pulls at your heart string. i cried multiple times, and laughed even more. big and carrie are at it again, and you just feel like you have to root for them..they are great. samantha, charlotte and miranda are back and more sassy than ever. jennifer hudson has a small role in the movie (the billboards and trailers for this movie make her part out to be WAY MORE than it is0, and i personally think she is an over rated actress and quite annoying on screen. this is def a chick flick so you might not want to drag your new boyfriend to see this with you. it is however, a nice movie for a girls night. make some cosmos and relax with your girls. there will be something in the movie that really realtes to you. bring the popcorn..and the tissues.
...
