woodredhead says "Why would you use anything else? Really? Why?" about Apple MacBook Pro

We unfortunately switched to Dell computers a few years back. Everyone was soooo happy. They were so tired of the "tired, slow machines" and when we got the new ones - wow - so much better. DUH!!! The MAC's we had were ten years old, had little memory and were networked with a computer not a real server. I was sullen and thought, well if we had to have PC's at work, I'd better get a PC at home. BAD MISTAKE. Wow what a bad mistake. But we puttered along with that PC for several years, getting it serviced almost every six months, several hundred bucks each time. Finally, I'd had enough. That's it I screamed to my daughters. We're going back to the MAC. No, mommy, no, they cried. We won't know how to use it. You'll be fine I assured them. My significant other of the time dug up an old laptop of his and hooked it up for them. He put in a little network so they could use the printer and they sighed a breath of relief. They could use the familiar Windows and I could have my new beautiful I-Mac....
...

woodredhead says "School is more than academics" about Homeschooling

There is no one best way to educate children. Every child is different, and has different needs, learns differently, views the world differently. But school isn't just about learning a particular collection of knowledge or a set of skills. Business people in the marketplace say that we can't teach kids what they need to know to do the jobs they will eventually get in the future because those jobs don't even exist yet. What they need us to teach them is how to be a team player, how to see the world as a global society, how to get along well with others, how to understand that people from other cultures see things differently than we do and not only is that ok - we need to market to that difference and so on. You can not learn those things in isolation. Even home schools that are collections of a few families are not microcosms of society. When students arrive at my high school after having spent their early years in a home school setting - they may read well, they may be very intelligent...
...

woodredhead says "Best nursery in the state! They have everything and then some!" about Nursery Perennials, annuals, tools, etc

I am a snobby gardener. I have great variety in my flower gardens, so every year I go looking for something new to catch my eye. The first time I went to Telly's I did my usual walk down the aisle pointing at each plant, "have that, have that, had that - didn't like it - got rid of it, have that, and then a miracle, don't have that, don't have that, what is that? Oh my gosh, they had all kinds of things I had never seen before. I was hooked. Every year, I find new things at Telly's - last summer I discovered their $1.00 perrenials. That's right $1.00. They are babies. Little versions of bigger plants (they were all little at one time you know). It's so you can try something out before you spend $15.00 - $50.00 on a bigger one. See if it grows in your soil, in your light, and do you like the way that it grows. What a splendid idea. I bought about 40 of them. What will I discover this year? Who knows - but I can't wait to find out.
...

woodredhead says "This printer does it all." about Hewlett Packard Photosmart C3150 Printer

I have always owned HP printers; I have used other printers at work - but have always owned HP printers. There is a reason for that - they are the best. I was hesitant to buy an "all in one" because most of the time when a product attempts to multitask - something doesn't work very well or not at all. But I finally gave in because I was tired of having to go to work or Kinko's every time I needed a couple copies of something or needed to fax a document. These were tasks I didn't do often, and hated having to go out for. I also hated having to pay a fee to receive a fax. Ok enough, I bought the HP all in one. It does everything well. It prints fast, the color is outstanding, pictures come out beautiful!! It takes all kinds of paper - we made invitations using specialty paper that came in very odd sizes, was embossed and had glitter all over it - it worked great. I have made copies, faxed things, received faxes - and the set up is so simple. The blue tooth works extremely well - I print things...
...
