I bought this unit for my new home in August of 2008, and have now been in my home for about 7 months. How times have changed with this sucker ! At first I was in heaven with my freshly brewed cup of Joe, no mess, a nice little period of keeping the pot hot while I did and work and caffinated, but times they changed fast. within 5 months I had leakage, I had coffee grounds in my coffee, I had that little knob that stops the coffee from dripping when you remove the pot decide to...
...

thutigger says "You can do it all for very little money !" about Lexmark X1185 PRINTRIO All-In-One Printer

I've had a lexmark z-11 for nearly 10 years now and never had one problem with it. A few years ago,at work we bought a really nice printer with all the fancy doo dads so we spent 500 bucks on a Canon with the separate ink cartridges and everything. It was horrible to set up and use, the software was awful, the print icon was always giving errors and finally, six months later, it just wouldn't print anymore. That was some real garbage. Completely opposite of the reputation but I find that kind of stuff is usually over rated. People say that expensive stuff is better and it's not always true.

So,we had to replace the canon and I've gone back to a lexmark. This thing scans at lightning speed! It's simply unbelievable. For years we've wanted to archive magazine articles onto disk and get rid of the hard print stuff but the old flatbed scanners were so slow we'd quit after a day of it having done not even one issue. With this new scanner - we were done in a long weekend with EVERYTHING. OCR...
...

thutigger says "a new take on the zombie genre" about Cell

If for no other reason, I thank Stephen King for taking those five words which haunt tv commercials:, "Can you hear me now?" and turning the phrase into something more than merely annoying..and into the realm of the truly ominous. While it might seem obvious to some of us that cell phones are horrible little devices, it still takes a pretty talented writer to write a book about evil spread by cell phones...and to keep readers riveted the entire time. I was one of those readers. Like King, I refuse to have a cell phone, an "electronic leash". No thanks.

But I'm really digressing here. Back to The Cell . If you think you don't like King's "supernatural" or "horror" style, I'd urge you to give The Cell a chance. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting.
I can't say it is the best book he's written but it was still a fine read and had many of the trademarks of King's superior writing - excellent characterization, an unpredictable plot and just enough plausability to make me think, "WHat......

thutigger says "a bewitching journey" about The Witching Hour

In San Francisco, a young man could not stop himself from drawing nearer the rocky shore; the ocean called to him, to his soul. Then he was swept into the sea. Rescue seems impossible, yet he is saved; saved by a Mayfair witch for reasons even she knows nothing about. Just as seaweed wraps around the legs and arms of unwary divers trapping them until only the blade of a knife will set them free, love entangles these two people. They travel to New Orleans, where a ancient mansion is alive with the secrets of the past. Shadows and Spanish Lace that hangs from the old trees were a barrier to passersby who would peek through the gates--that and ghosts.
In a powerful opening sequence, Anne Rice develops an intriguing story with rich characters that drew me into the story of the Mayfair Witches. The tale moves along well through the historical journals of past witches, who they were and how they came to power; a history that crosses the centuries and reveals a sense of their destiny and the corruption...
...

thutigger says "Another Odd journey" about Brother Odd

Odd Thomas is one of those characters you can't forget. I discovered him in the quirky, touching, and sometimes chilling "Odd Thomas." I met him again in the darker, less heartfelt "Forever Odd." When I saw the dramatically colored cover of "Brother Odd," however, I was worried that Koontz would take our literary hero into the land of the ludicrous. I picked up the book with a fair share of concern.

"Brother Odd" finds Odd in a new location, seeking solitude and rejuvenation at a monastery in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. This isolated spot gives the story more tension, throwing a bunch of monks and nuns and needy children into a pressure-cooker situation. Odd knows there is trouble brewing again, trouble of a kind only he can see, when he detects evil entities stalking the children. With typical Koontz style, the story unfolds with lots of literary wordplay and Odd Thomas humor. The supporting cast does its job, although the heavy-handed attempt to make Mr. Romanovich seem menacing......

thutigger says "A great new series !!!!" about Dean Koontz - Odd Thomas

Odd Thomas lives up to his first name; he is a 20 year old short-order cook with the ability to see the ghosts of the dead and the shadowy faceless spirits he calls "bodachs," who gravitate toward scenes of horrific violence and evil. Odd is a very likable guy whose ideal future rests with his girlfriend and soul mate Stormy Llewellyn and with a career in tires or footwear. Aware that his sixth sense is a burden that sets him apart and makes him appear otherworldly to others, he knows that he has received this gift for a reason. He feels a responsibility to make sense of the ghosts he encounters and to thwart the violence that the bodachs portend. When he spots a large congregation of bodachs converging on his hometown of Pico Mundo, he has a premonition of great disaster. He hones in on a villainous and twisted "Fungus Man" who he senses will most likely cause the violence. He must now discover the time and place where the bloodshed will occur. He races against the clock to prevent a tragic......

thutigger says "another great Dirk Pitt novel !" about Black Wind

No just kidding, but few writers put together a more engrossing story than King Clive! Well known to loyal followers is the fact that Clive employed his son Dirk--namesake in the Dirk Pitt franchise--to collaborate on the Black Wind plot and to write the first ten chapters of this book. You'd be hard pressed to notice where the father picks up and the son leaves off, such is the intimacy with which Dirk Cussler knows these characters!

In the usual fashion, Cussler's novel begins in the past, nearly sixty years hence, during the last days of the Second World War. A super secret, last gasp Japanese sub mission to alter the inevitable outcome of the war. What's the secret? A deadly germ agent designed to inflict horrific casualties all along America's west coast. You'll have to read the book to discover the outcome of this dastardly deed, but it is this same biological contaminant that sets the stage for the present day derring-do of Dirk Pitt (the elder), NUMA's new Director; his son Dirk......
