They are wider around so it is easy to hold them and easier for the baby to hold as well. The air goes into the bottle and not into your baby's tummy. My daughter loves these bottle and so did my Son.  I used them with my son 8 years ago and they change into sippy cups with handles and also came with a pacifier. My daughter loves them just as much.
