It worked on both carpet and kitchen floor. However, after about 6-8 months of use, with the battery charged as required, the battery would hardly hold a charge. It is advertised to charge for 45 minutes. Now it is only good for a short period and then for tile or other floors that are not carpet. I did see that ebay sellers will send new batteries for about $19. I wouldn't buy it again due to this battery issue....
