schizobeck says "Looks like a great summer movie kids and teens." about Nim's Island

I watched an interview with Jodi Foster on the CBS Early Show when she was promoting this movie and from the movie clip I saw and the interview, I'd say kids will love this movie and teens too (at least the teens who don't think they're already grown up will).

The interaction with the animal and the girl would make this movie of interest to anybody who is very interested in animals, animal training and animal behavior. Also, the girl has to "pull some things together" to achieve her goals, much like the MacGuyver TV show, so fans of A-Team, MacGuyver and similar stories would probably like this movie as well.
...

schizobeck says "Birmingham is not like what you read in your textbooks anymore. " about Birmingham

Three Great Things about Sweet Home BIRMINGHAM, Alabama!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I live in Bessemer, Alabama -- a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. One of the

biggest deals about Birmingham, Alabama is Vulcan. He is the second tallest
statue in the USA, second only to the Lovely Lady Liberty [don't think France
has done anything so nice for us since -- ;) ]. I like to think that Vulcan is the
Statue of Liberty's somewhat short boyfriend.

Also, as one can note from the photo, his smithing apron does not cover his
entire hind area so a portion of Birmingham gets mooned year round.

For more information, you can visit:

http://www.vulcanpark.org/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Lots of people think they know a lot about Birmingham from the stuff in history
books and movies, but Birmingham really isn't like it used to be in the times of
MLK Jr. and KKK. I've lived and worked in the area for 23 years and can
remember back to the 1980s and 1990s when Birmingham's City Council was
made up entirely...
...

schizobeck says "A movie with a theme against child abuse." about Dominick and Eugene

These are just a few comments against spanking and otherwise beating children.

Where I'm coming from: I received corporal punishment (spankings and beatings) as a child. A lot of them, though not particularly damaging, were mentally terrifying. I believe that, for the most part, I was already a pretty good kid and that most of the spankings were more due to my parents' frustration and anger that I had a mind of my own than any real wrongdoing on my part.

I do not have children yet, but if I had started a family when I was younger I still would have believed that spankings were OK. I'm 38 now and I have had more time to think about this subject and I don't agree with spanking children for these reasons:

1. The people who wrote the passage in the Bible "Spare the rod and spoil the child." were most likely shepherds. Shepherds guide their sheep with the rods and the sheep know to stay in line to where they are directed with the rod. I believe, for the most part, that...
...

schizobeck says "Crockpot cooking is fun and pretty easy." about Rival Crock pot 7 Quart

The Rival Crockpot is a great gift and comes with an owner's guide/recipe booklet that are just what you need. Two of my favorite recipes from the booklet are "Mock Lasagne" and "Tuna Noodle Casserole" -- they are both very tasty.

If the weather is really just too hot to barbecue outside and you don't want to heat up your entire kitchen by turning on the oven, try these recipes that taste just as great as barbecue food but you won't have to perspire so much.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Craving barbecue cookout food but no time? 2 great crockpot alternatives
Sometimes you're craving barbecue cookout food but maybe you don't have the time for a big deal of heating up the grill and all that prep work.  Try these easy alternatives.
                                  Homemade Kraut, Weenies and Kielbasa
Half a head of cabbage, slice thinly directly into crockpot
Half an onion, slice thinly into crockpot OR shake a little onion powder in
Pour in vinegar just to cover cabbage....
...
Vacationing in Sweet Home Bessemer, ALABAMA on any budget!
Bessemer, Alabama is a great place to vacation for families who like amusement parks and discount shopping.
For those who like roller coasters and water theme parks, get your swimsuit on underneath your shorts and shirt and head to Alabama Adventure Park for lots of rides, water slides, musical attractions and fun.  To get $3 off admission, buy a specially marked 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola from local retailers.  Food World is a nearby spacious and well-stocked grocery store where you can probably pick up a 12-pack or 6-pack of Coca-Cola with the specially marked $3 off admission cans.
While you're at Food World, don't forget to check the Mini Dollar Store that is directly behind the Produce Section which is right at the entrance of Food World.  I found a large size 32 oz. Lander Strawberry Essence Bubble Bath for only $1.25 and it smells just like strawberry candy.  =)  They have toys and kitchen gadgets and lots of other...
...
