rpeterson says "Great book I would have missed if it was not for my book club." about Middlesex

I do not think I would have ever picked this book out to read if my book club did not choose it. It is a great story. It is about a greek american girl who is really a boy but due to the old family doctor this is not discovered until she/he is in High School. You get the family history about why this happened. You get introduced to many wonderful colorful characters throughout this story. I was glad I read this book I found it enlightening....

rpeterson says "Not very believable" about The Da Vinci Code

Okay story. It was a good read. If you know history , you can see the book is filled with inacuracies. The whole conspiracy about Mary Magdelene being not given her rightful place in the Catholic Church I found a bit to much especially when the Church puts Mary the Mother in such a place that this story believes was lost to Mary the "Wife". Remember folks this is FICTION not fact. ...

I remember this being one of my favorite books as a child. When my oldest son was born 13 years ago we got a hard bound copy of it for a shower present. I remember reading it to him as a two year old and watching his whole face light up. I have continued to read this book to my other 3 children each of them has loved the story.
...

rpeterson says "Two women with great spirits who overcame great hardships." about A Thousand Splendid Suns

This story is a wonderful story of hope. What I love about this author is how he breaks down the barriors and divissions which our society has created especially the media. He shows us that in every society, in every religion, and in every culture there are the good and the bad. He shows the black and the white and the gray in our daily lives. I found this story like his last novel very enlightening. You have two women from very different family situations brought together and at first not really liking each other. As the book progresses they develope a profound love and respect for each other. Even with all the saddness in this novel there is hope that comes shinning through that makes this book a great read.
...
