Searched in Ft.Myers area for a counter top contractor. Went to Servicemagic and they hooked me up with Beverin Solid Surface Inc. I could not have been more pleased with Sebastian. Very professional, and the job came out better than expected. I got other quotes from the fly by night, so called contractors. I will always go to servicemagic to get the contractor I need. Great Job done!

I went to the servicemagic site hoping to find a cheap solution to getting rid of a couch. The only "Pro" listed was not what I was interested in, so I did not choose one. Begin Stalker Spam Flood.

First I receive two emails telling me I "forgot" to pick a pro. Then a phone call. Then an email. Then Another email.

There is no unsubscribe button, no way to tell them to piss off. I highly recommend people avoid this site.
...

From a contractor's point of view: ServiceMagic sends us leads that which were people that are not looking for the service we provide. We are a high end, yes very expensive, customer builder, and we have received leads from Service Magic to homes I would not let my dog live in. Service Magic claimed I could get quality high end customers that appreciate custom projects but all I have received have been penny pinching want to be do-it yourself people that cannot even afford the materials much less have a company to build it.

One big rip-off.

I would recommend Exor Ironworks to anyone who wants to get the job done. During the recent snowfall we had in Everett the crew continued to work every day until the job was completed. I'm impressed with the work they did. The railings they put in for the stairs are very nice. Thanks to Eddie for a job well done!

...

JovialCougar says "I had mixed results hiring a contractor with Service Magic" about servicemagic.com

Hiring a contractor to do work around your home can be fraught with peril. It seems like there are so many shoddy operations out there who not only have poor business skills, but they also do a poor job at installing, building, or repairing something. One option to finding a reputable contractor is to use ServiceMagic.com.

ServiceMagic.com is an internet-based service that matches contractors to people who need a particular project completed. The contractors who sign-up with ServiceMagic.com must pass a 10-point inspection screening process for things like verifying licenses, confirming the business' operations, insurance, and lack of lawsuits against them. People who have used the contractor in the past through ServiceMagic.com will submit ratings (e.g. Did they do the job right, did they arrive on time, etc...)

The first time I tried using this service I searched for someone to install a microwave oven over a stove, which also required removing an old vent hood. There were no contractors...
...

charlemeign says "Wow, I've been scammed!" about servicemagic.com

We hired a contractor through servicemagic. He didn't show up the first day (although he took a check for materials). He showed up late the second day, showed up the third day, the fourth day.... then he disappeared. He wouldn't return phone calls, but when I blocked my phone number he finally answered his phone.. when I said who he was he claimed phone problems and hung up. When I notified servicemagic, they asked for pictures and copies of the contract. I spent the afternoon taking about 150 high res pictures. I faxed everything they asked. They admitted the job wasn't done and I'd need another contractor. I showed them the damage to my carpet, the places on the ceiling that were hit with a roller (thus forcing me to paint the ceilings).

Then they called a week later and said it was denied, since the contractor primed it. I got what I paid for. I then had to pay about $1500 MORE than I had originally been quoted to get the job redone and finished.

The company is a...
...

Over the last year we have gotten married and as a result of combining over 50 years of possessions we needed to remodeled/update our home. We added 1500 sf onto our home, and also got our 2nd home (which we no longer needed) ready to sell. Every time I have needed a quality craftsman-handyman I have used this site and I have never been let down. Whether it was a plumber, an electrician, restorer of hardwood floors, granite-tile-stone masons, general contractors, landscapers, painters.... they have done an excellant job of providing me 2 to 5 businesses to choose from. We are very pleased with our newly updated and larger home and the quality workmanship that went into making it what it is today. I heartily recommend this website. ...

Terrible services and products; NOT recommended. Money was for nothing. Used these folks several times and had to have them return each time to complete or correct the job. Last straw was their carpet cleaning. The stains came back, We called them & they told us someone would come out. No one EVER showed or called. THIS COMPANY SUX!...

berkland says "What????" about servicemagic.com

After using Servicemagic many, many times, the last people they sent was the last straw. They sent me a clumsy non-caring contractor who wouldn't stop damaging things. They damaged the hard wood floor. They damaged the new cabinets and made a run for it when we kept complaining. What really shows the deception and lack of integrity of this contractor is when I made a complaint to the BBB, they even denied doing anything wrong after us submitting many high res color pics. Amazing. And what's really amazing is how servicemagic hide my complaint about him and his crew. They also hide another persons complaint. One day it's there, the next, it's gone. They said it's because the contractor had 'issues' with my (and probably his) complaint. Stay away from servicemagic. They are not out there to help the consumer, just themselves. Their so called prescreening is a joke. They check for license, bond and insurance...in other words they do nothing to check the competance of the contractor they send...
...
