CarlaT says "Do not use this scam service!" about priceline

I booked a hotel through Priceline.com, and paid seventy five dollars for a supposedly three star hotel. We show up at the Travelodge(!) and found out not only did they not have a indoor pool, but served no breakfast. We spent two hours on the phone trying to explain that those were only requirements we had for our hotel room. After talking to the supervisor, the shift supervisor, the floor supervisor and at least three customer service "specialists", they informed us that on their website, by their standards, only four star hotels fit that criteria. After explaining to them that we saw seaveral 3 star hotels that had indoor pools and served full breakfasts, they deemed it to be misprints or slip ups on their parts. We ended up going to a Holiday Inn and paying for it ourselves, due to pricelines refusal to transfer our reservation or grant any form of refund. After calling and emailing the higher ups in the company, they offered us a ten..thats right 10, percent discount on future reservations....
...

srrock33 says "Deceptive hotel booking practice" about priceline

Naming your own price to get a reasonable rate has usually been worth the trouble... until Priceline booked me at a 2.5-star timeshare instead of the 3 star hotel advertised. The 3 star designation appears on Priceline's website while other sites (Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.) show a 2.5 star rating.
Upon learning the name of the hotel where I was booked, I checked the TripAdvisor website and found that reviews of the Ridge On Sedona Golf Resort are mostly negative. Past guests refer to high pressure sales pitches to purchase timeshares. These guests also refer to insect problems in the rooms, including cockroaches and scorpions. Gee, I can't wait to check in!
Not that this "resort" doesn't sound good enough already, past guests also refer to dirty rooms and rude personnel, especially when you refuse to attend their sales presentation. They apparently save the worst rooms for those special guests.
They also require a $100 deposit at check-in to cover any damages. In one case a former...
...

priceline uses BAIT AND SWITCH with hotel rooms. They ask questions, such as smoking preferences and don't tell you that this will not be honored. Their method is DECEPTION, and then they blame it on the hotel. At the same time, the hotel is also part of this DECEPTION. DO NOT USE PRICELINE FOR BOOKING HOTELS UNLESS YOU BELIEVE IN BUYER BEWARE.
...

Mesha says "I always go to Priceline for hotels." about priceline

I always go to Priceline.com when I am looking for a hotel. The only drawback is that you need to know the exact dates of travel, because once you set them, you can't change them. I always get great deals on hotels through Priceline.com. Last summer I was able to get a Hyatt Place room in the outskirts of Cincinnati, OH for $40 a night. The normal price was over $100 a night. I will always check Priceline for all my travel needs before going to another website. I also liked that I was able to extend my price when I decided to stay longer. I know this is mostly due to the hotel letting me, but I used Priceline.com to do it.
...

dromeo says "Do not use for hotels unless very flexible" about priceline

I tried to use this website to book a hotel in Niagara Falls. It was absolutely horrible. All you could do was tell the site how many stars you wanted and what location. It also appeared that you had to book the hotel if it accepted. Even if it was an hotel you did not want.

For example, I was trying to book a hotel for my parents, I wanted a Fallsview room. There were four areas I could chose from. The only information I could enter was that location, how many stars, my dates, and the price I was entering. It gave no other specifics to chose from.

If you we never at the location you are searching for a hotel. You are basically just putting it up to good old luck. If you care about specifics and want an active say is what you are purchasing, this is not the site for you.

I would never recommend this site to anyone. I considered it a complete waste of time.
...
