Freecycle is absolutely the only way to go when you no longer need or want something. I've gotten things and given things; painlessly. What more could one ask for? The best community service offered in a very long time.
...

KaryneBailey says "Risky business" about Freecycle

Freecycle in concept is a wonderful thing; however, the Corporate Management is not good with this company.

They have spent countless thousands of dollars on lawsuits to defend something that was gifted away and then stolen back. They have spent thousands of dollars trying to trademark a logo that is illegal as the elements of the logo are previously copyrighted elements.

For the average user the site might be good, but the new MyFreecycle website offers little pretection to the user for their email address. The Board of Directors for this company is a husband, wife and best friend. It would be nothing for them to change the policy and choose to sell the database of your emails!!

Just be cautious. Freecycle on Yahoo groups is safe - your email is protected via the Yahoo Terms of Service agreement which has to have notification to alter. Freecycle's does not need any notice to change!!

Freecycling is a great thing - Freecycle is not so hot.

I really didn't like freecycle.com. I tried it many times, and it has never really helped me out. There could be a few reasons for this though, I suppose. To use free cycle you have to join communities, and there where no communitys that were close enough to where I live to ever help me out. So I signed up to like 3 or 4 of the closest groups and any postings were still to far away for me to benifit off of. I also filled up my inbox way to much, I was getting like 1000 emails a day. Until I figured out that you have to make sure that you choose the option in you profile that disables the emails sent to you inbox. So that on was my bad. But overall, I found free cycle a little to hard to understand, and little to complicated to work with, and a little to much of a let down. However, this all could be because there wasn't a group within a 30 mile radius of me. However, if there ever was one created, I might try it agian. I guess you kind of have to see if you benifit from it yourself.
...

Ok, I am sure lots of people have had great experiences on here but I have not. People ask for cars, xboxes , food, meds and even concert or Suns tickets???????? And in general think the world owes them something and should bestow them with free things. It is very disturbing. If you want to recycle normal recyclable items people will not respond because they think it is junk. HMMMMM the goal of the group seems to not be being met.(To keep stuff out of landfills) Some people are rude and give out wrong info or just don't get back to you. I feel the site is not well moderated even though it claims it is suppose to be. Oh well. Also, inviting strangers to my house or work bothers me.Be careful of phssssiingg attempts and email viruses from this group as well....

Freecycle is a great concept that hooks up people needing things with people needing to get rid of things. It keeps the landfills from filling up as fast and helps the community out.

One Man's Trash...

I have posted all kinds of no longer needed things from coats to thermostats on Freecycle. I don't remember ever posting an item to give away that no one else was interested in. I even found a home for an unwanted Beta Fish.

I have also received items that I wanted on Freecycle. Some items had been posted as giveaways; others I requested.

Goes Both Ways:

Many times the giver gets as much or more than the receiver. For example, we bought a large flat screen TV last spring and needed to get rid of an older model Sony TV in a wooden cabinet. We needed the space right away and so I posted the offer and stipulated that the TV needed to be picked up that day. We had nearly 60 emails from people wanting the item! The family that picked it up was so excited and we had our space for......

Freecycle is one of a number of online "keep it out of the landfill" sites. I don't know if it's the original, but it's the one I discovered first. I've had great luck with Freecycle in finding new homes for unwanted stuff that we had sitting around. We've also benefitted greatly from the generosity of others.

The only drawbacks are timing and transporting what you're getting. When you make arrangements to pick something up, you have to follow through on time. Sometimes this isn't easy, with lives the way they tend to be these days. Timing can be tricky when you're relying on someone else to help transport your items. Telling the giver this in advance can help. Some people don't mind leaving stuff on a porch or somewhere safe where you can get it. I usually do this, rather than having lots of people ring my doorbell and set off the dog. ;-)

If you have stuff you want to get rid of, or you or someone you know needs something, go to freecycle.org and find a site near you. ...
...

FREESTUFFFINDER says "Great Concept!" about Freecycle

I found Freecycle many years ago....before the huge boom and influx of members. The concept behind it is great. You can get rid of the stuff you have in your house that you no longer want, that is too good for trash. It's great because you don't have to have a time consuming and annoying yard sale, especially if you just have a few items to get rid of. Plus it feels good to give.

The problem with Freecycle is that there are too many people who have nothing better to do that sit in front of their computer and wait for the next offer to come through and reply right away and get that item. I think givers should do what myself and a few other do is wait for a day to get quite a few responses and pick a person by manners, reasons they want/need the item(s) and perhaps have them share a recipe or a joke, then of course how soon they could pick it up. That way you know the person who replies is sincere. Too many of the takers are resellers.

The wants are a bit out of control also. People ask...
...

Have an old bike your kid has outgrown? How about a box of left over party supplies from your last Super Bowl party? If you were thinking about tossing them out in this weeks trash think again. Sign up for your area Freecycle and you can find someone in your area willing to come pickup your leftovers for free. I've been using Freecycle for a couple of years now and love how I can list my unwanted items and usually have them gone by the next day. Plus, I have found a ton of stuff I could use that other people were giving away. We have received brand new sleeping bags, a ton of craft supplies, a whole box of tea cups and saucers that we used for a Girl Scout tea party, books for my daughter and a lot of other stuff all in great condition. Plus, I feel so much better knowing that my things are going to someone who will use them instead of me throwing them in the trash and ending up in a landfill somewhere. Just because you don't want something anymore doesn't mean it is worthless. There's...
...

I accidentally stumbled onto this web site and thought I would share it. It is like the recylcler newspaper only it is called freecycle. You can post items that you are getting rid of and you can also post wanted ads for things you are looking for. The only catch is everything has to be "free" I like the fact that it keeps all kinds of things out of the landfill and it helps ease the pain of the economy. Of course items are used but if you need a particular item that doesn't have to be brand new, then it makes perfect sense!! I have been amazed at some of the postings in my local community. Everything from dishes and clothes to gas bbq and appliances. I log on about once a week, my garage isn't as crowded and it makes me feel good to to help my environment and my neighbors. You are required to post an offer before you post a wanted ad but I didn't find that unreasonable. Take a look when you have a few minutes it's a good site to keep in mind, especially...
...

Ever since my mother turned me on to freecycle, I have been addicted. This is the best way I have seen to recycle stuff. There is a group in almost every city in every state, it seems. You can get almost anything you can imagine and for FREE! All you have to do is pick it up after you hear from the person offering. It's also a great way to get rid of that stuff you have laying around that you think is worthless. You know, one person's junk is another person's treasure. Log on to freecycle.org and see if your city has one. It's one of the best things you can doo for the environment and yourself....

After my cat suddenly passed away, I went through my house to clean out and put away all of her things. I knew that I would keep some items in case we adopt another cat someday. However, my pantry held 2 dozen new cans of premium canned cat food that I didn't want to go to waste. I knew that I couldn't donate the items to Goodwill or AmVets, so I turned to a source that I had read about online: Freecycle.
Freecycle (www.freecycle.org) is a community of users who believe in recycling unwanted items and keeping them out of the landfills.

The main premise of this international organization is:

"to keep usable items out of the landfill. By using what we already have on this earth, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods, and lessen the impact on the earth."

Freecycle members offer their household items--for free--and respondents are responsible for picking them in a timely manner. Keep in mind, that although you are eligible for tax breaks if you donate unwanted items...
...
