My husband and I both tried to lose weight and we used Equal sweetener for our cereal and coffee. After about one week I mentioned to him that my muscles in my upper arms and shoulders were aching and he said he had the same problem. We went over what we had been eating and drinking and the only thing we had started using that was different was the Equal.

We stopped using the Equal and in about a week the aches went away. Just to see if it was the problem we tried it again after a few weeks and the same thing happened. We are now using Splenda and have not got the pains at all.

I have been a diabetic for 24 years now. I use equal for my coffee in the morning. I have been doing this for years now, and have not seen any odd side effects people keep speaking of. It sweetens my coffee perfectly, and does not have a bitter aftertaste like some no sugar sweeteners have. To me, it is a great help so i can enjoy my morning....

Aspartame can cause SEVERE, adverse health reactions, which often will imitate other, serious illnesses. I found this out the hard way. Like many people, I was calorie conscious, and trying to maintain a moderate weight, so I traded in regular soda for DIET soda. One night, I began to experience SEVERE, Scraping, Knifing pains in my lower abdomen that would radiate toward my lower back, mainly on one side. I was rushed to the ER, where doctors were SURE I was experiencing a Kidney Stone. They pumped 17 grams of Morphine into me for the pain, over the next 6 hours- but it didn't stop the pain. They X-rayed me, and couldn't see a stone, so they assumed I'd passed it- though we KNEW I hadn't. Then, 4 months later, I decided to drink a diet soda while I began to prepare Thanksgiving Dinner. Hey you guys, this stuff is really bad for you, it has been proven that it causes headaches. Go look online and see what the side effects are. I was using it and I got sick with headaches and just didn't feel well. I just decided to cut out all sugar. Type in aspartame side effects in you search bar and see if you get any. ...

My husband and I each have lost 50 pounds by eating a well balanced, sensible diet. He was craving carbs, and it was hard to change. Then we decided to try EQUAL, and it's been great! This sugar substitute, in reasonable quantities, is a great product. I'm sure if you take enough to kill lab rats, that might not work so well!...

I have migraines very often, sometimes four or five a week. They range from moderate to severe. I just found out that any product containing aspartame results in a very severe migraine that can last for up to ten days and usually puts me in the Emergency Room. Then I have to pay an extremely high medical bill. So I would recommend not using it at all because it is so unhealthy to our bodies. Other side effects are chronic bowel and colon problems that can not be reversed. Be wise, be safe and watch what you put into your body!...

A few years ago I was experiencing headaches just about every day for more than a year . Several days a month I would have migraines. I had seen several doctors, had all kinds of tests but none of doctors could seem to find out why I was getting these headaches. The last doctor just put me on Imatrex and sent me home.

A friend of mine told me that she had severe headaches too and found out that the aspartame sweetener in her soda was the cause of her headaches. I didn't drink soda but at that time was drinking at least 8 glasses a day of flavored, aspartame sweetened water.

I decided to do some experimenting on my own and for the next full week I only drank spring water. IT WAS A MIRACLE...my headaches were gone. I couldn't believe that the aspartame sweetener was the cause of more than one year's worth of headaches, but it was!
