I do not use allergy medicine on a regular basis, but when I need to be at my best I use ZyrtecD Allergy and Sinus medicine. It is effective and long lasting (about 12 hours of relief). It also works very quickly against allergy symptoms caused by ragweed, pollen, grass, dust, pets and mould. I take one tablet in the morning and it usually lasts for the whole working day. I do not take allergy medicine at night when I sleep because it seems like a waste. This medicine contains an antihistimine (Cetirizine Hydrochloride) which is effective against seasonal allergies that cause itchy, watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing. ZyrtecD also contains an decongestant (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) which provides relief from sinus congestion. I believe this is a winning combination because it works for me and I have never been drowsy after taking a dose. I have tried other allergy medicines but they have not been as effective.

When I was in Texas, allergy testing revealed high allergies to every week I was tested for. In Arizona, those allergies have continued. I've never gotten shots, but I have been using Alavert for years. I've always loved it, but last year, my allergies developed into a sinus infection. My doctor said, "You need something really good and strong, like Zyrtec-D." By the next day, I felt like a different person. I didn't feel achy or tired like I did the day before. Zyrtec-D fights the effects of allergies without drowsiness or over-exciteability. The "D" stands for decongestant, and boy, it works! Zyrtec also works well for colds and allergies, but it doesn't have the effect on congestion like Zyrtec-D does. The pills are very small and coated, making them easy to swallow. I would say the only negative is that it's extremely expensive. It does go on sale often, and coupons can be found easily if you'll look for them, but it's still expensive.

ZyrtecD definitely lives up to its ratings by patients and doctors, even over-the-counter. I have tried many allergy medicines and because I have to take them everyday regardless of the season my body builds an immunity within a couple of weeks and medicines no longer work for me. ZyrtecD is the opposite. I have been taking it for almost a year and it still works for me. I am able to breathe better through my nose, thanks to the decongestant in this pill. I take 2 pills a day and feel good all day. This was recommended by a pharmacist and I am so glad he did recommend it. I have now been able to enjoy outside more, my pets more, and family's houses more. It helped with seasonal and everyday allergies, even cigarette smoke. Although the medicine is a little pricier than others that you would buy off the shelf, this medicine is well worth the extra money spent if you want to feel better throughout the day without feeling drowsy. Zyrtec D

It took a long time for me to find something that works without making me drowsy. My doctor originally wrote a prescribe for Zyrtec D & since it's over the counter now, the cost has increased dramaticlly. Prices are generally lower on web sites vs drug stores, etc. I take one tablet daily and go all day whether I'm indoors or out.

Zrytec D is an over the counter allergy medicine that is available in any store that has a pharmacy. It is pricey. Twelve capsules cost around $15.00. The capsules are only effective for twelve hours, so users would have to take two capsules per day for full allergy relief. Also, in order to purchase this item at your local drugstore or supermarket, you must take the item tag off the shelf and take it to the in-store pharmacy. If you are shopping at Wal-Mart, this means that you will have to be entered into the pharmacy database (time consuming) and will have to purchase the medicine separate from your other items at the pharmacy counter.

If you do not have to have a decongestant in you allergy medication, the 24 hour regular Zrytec is a better buy. It really works for 24 hours, so it ends up costing much less. If decongestant is necessary, I would suggest finding a prescription allergy medication that your insurance will cover.

Zyrtec-D contains an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, a combination which works well for me, although not as good as Actifed, a discontinued drug here in the U.S.

I was shocked to find the price at nearly $1 a pill, even with a discount coupon!

Then I discovered the reason for the high cost: the packaging. Each pill is wrapped in an individual plastic injection-molded package with a metal foil seal in the back overlaid by a paper seal. Yes, it is made to look safe and worth the ridiculous price. But it is in fact a waste of resources (material, packaging, transport cost, shelf space, printing, and the energy attendant to each of the above), an insult to the consumer and a disservice to society. To add insult to insult, the packaging is originally made for two tablets, but the manufacturer decided that they can probably charge double for the price of one, so they omitted one pill. And the package now has just one pilll and a small bubble...

I have been suffering from allergies, indoor and out, for about 10 years. I try everything to relieve the ever-present headaches and sinus pressure that I have. From the begining of spring and fall, to the indoor symptoms during the winter and summer, I am always complaining. I tried this when it first came out, at first I loved it, but then it was starting to effect my day-to-day since it left me drowsy. As you find with a lot of allergy meds, I was lethargic and didn't feel like myself at all. Besides that side effect, I think it was a good product. I was not stuffy at all, the headaches had subsided, it didnt effect my appetite (which I've found with other over the counter allergy meds), and I just felt better. I would sugget it to someone who is better equipped than myself when dealing with sleepiness. In my line of work, I have to deal with needles all day and have to be on the ball.

ZyrtecD has consistently controlled my allergy symptoms more effectively than any other product I have tried. Since I live in the "pollen belt" the number of products that I have gone through are numerous. Most allow me to function at a minimium level of comfort. ZyrtecD raises the bar for all allergy relievers. I have been able to resume normal activities instead of camping out at home during my worst days of the season. Since the symptoms are relieved so effectively I can be out among the public without the embarassment of a constantly running nose, watery eyes etc... Since I began medicating with Zyrtec D I have not been plagued with the droswiness that some less effective products cause. Zyrtec D allows me to function normally in this respect also. It does not cause me to lose sleep either. Some medications will not cause drowsiness but in turn keep you awake.

My only complaint is the "controlled access" issue to purchasing the product. If a pharmacy is closed...

We are happy with Zyrtec D in my house. 3 of us use it. It definitely helps with all of hte allergy symptoms with out drying us out too much. We only wish it had stayed prescription, as it is expensive over the counter when 3 of us are using it!...

I am allergic to lots of things including dust mites, mold, all kinds of pollen, laundry detergents, cats and dogs. I'll also throw out there that I have moderate-to-severe asthma. It doesn't take much to get me sneezing, wheezing, itching, wiping watery eyes, and congested like you've never seen. A doctor that I used to see insisted on running an allergy panel on me and found that I'm allergic to many things but my reaction to cats is off the charts. Normal people would go out of their way to avoid allergens that trigger a response and specifically cats but not me. Nope. I run a cat rescue right here out of my home. Isn't that fun?

Although one can eventually build up some kind of a tolerance to the family pet, it's just not possible here. I own 3 cats and have anywhere between 2 and 12 more here at any given time. We also often foster dogs and puppies. Even when we have the fosters down to a reasonable number, it's just not possible to build up a tolerance because they...
