Priya2 says "Good medicine with few side effects" about Zoloft

Zoloft is a selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor. What that means is that it regulates the amount of a substance in the brain called seratonin, which in turn lifts the mood and relieves the symptoms of depression.

Zoloft was the first antidepressant I tried, and I stayed on it for seven years. It regulated my mood quite well, with almost zero side effects (and I get side effects from EVERYTHING). I felt really lucky that this was the first medication I was prescribed. The only warning is, DON'T stop taking it without your doctor's okay. I did that, and when I tried to get back on it, it didn't work the way it used to.

Another bonus is that I think Zoloft is avaliable as a generic, so the costs and copays associated with it are much lower than they used to be. I highly recommend trying this drug. Then, if it works for you like it did for me, stay on it for as long as you possibly can.
...

I have been taking SSRI antidepressants since 1995 for migraine headaches. Over the years I have tried Paxil, Clexa, Lexapro and Effexor. However, I still had lingering depression. A new psychiatrist switched me to Zoloft for a newly developed anxiety issue and it has really worked well. I noticed a difference within 3 days if taking it as I had more energy and felt more outgoing.
...

I've been taking Zoloft for about 3 months at 200mg a day, for depression. With Zoloft at first the side-effects were tough. My jaw was extremely tight and achy. I had to buy a mouth guard which did help relieve the pressure some. Luckily that side-effect only lasted for about the first week. Also, I was having sexual side-effects. Lacking desire, and the inability to achieve orgasm. I decided to try taking my pills in themorning, rather than at night like I had been doing. After a couple of days past on with my new schedule, the sexual side effects subsided and I'm back to normal with that. Also, I now have insomnia. So far this side-effect has not worn off any. However, I kind of like this side-effect, because before Zoloft I slept all the time. People even teased me about how much I would sleep. I just couldn't help it, I was always so tired. So I kind of enjoy that I don't need to sleep as much, and I have more hours to my day. I never knew an anti-depressant could help...
...

Kelliesm says "Helps control anxiety and anger issues" about Zoloft

Zoloft has been an absolute lifesaver for me. I have been on the medication about 10 years. Before starting Zoloft - every little thing got under my skin and made me mad. I had no patience for my children, and when I lost my temper I would be screaming at the top of my lungs. They started me off on the lower doses of the medicine (25 mg.) but over time the dosage has increased to 200 mg. a day. That may seem like a lot, but I'm a different person when taking the medicine - don't argue my point, more patience for my kids. When my husband or kids start to argue with me, instead of trying to prove a point, I let it go and say "ok, whatever" (which drives my husband nuts). Zoloft has helped me "not sweat the small stuff". I have had very little side effects. The only one I really know of is "lower sex drive". There has been no "suicidal thoughts" or anything bad. If I go a day or 2 without taking the meds (if I forget or am out), you can definitely tell the difference...
...

I was switched to Zoloft after I was unable to afford my current medication. I suffered severe side effects from Zoloft. I had severe stomache pain and diarriah. I expereinced anxiety attacks every hour. These symptoms showed up after only a day of taking this medication. Lowering the dose did not improve my side effects, so I went off it completly.

Within 24 hours my symptoms were gone. I would not recoment this perscription for anyone. Zoloft has severe side effects that are harder to deal with than whatever you have been diagnosed with. I have tried many other prescriptions and have never experienced such severe side effects as I did with Zoloft.
...

kt047 says "Great SSRI for Anxiety" about Zoloft

I must admit I'm not the biggest fan of SSRIs. I think my reluctance to take this type of medication is the result of not having depression, but an anxiety disorder. Prior to taking Zoloft, I was on Luxox, or fluvoxamine, which I found to be incredibly ineffective for anxiety. After a month of bad dry mouth, restlessness, and insomnia, I decided to go back to my doctor to discuss alternative treatments.

That's when I was introduced to Zoloft, an SSRI commonly prescribed to individuals for anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), etc. Given my experiences with Luvox, I was anticipating the side effects (i.e. dry mouth). To my surprise, I did not experience any with Zoloft. This may be attributed to a very low dose I am currently prescribed (12.5 mg) but I can honestly say that I am grateful that my doctor was able to find an SSRI that worked for me.

In terms of side effects, I have not experienced any weight gain or insomnia. I...
...

ladycraft961 says "Zoloft has changed my life" about Zoloft

I am here today to let other know that Zoloft has changed my life for good. Everyday I was struggling with depression. Always wanting to cry or run away. I decided that a trip to the doctor was needed. My doctor put me on Zoloft. It took about 2 weeks for the feelings to change but once they snapped in...boom...I started to see and take life differently. Now instead of always crying in a dark bedroom for personal matters in my relationship, I look at life and think that there is more to life then sitting here in the mood I am in.

Anyone that is struggling with depression. the moods of crying, running away or maybe ending it all should look into a doctor and see about getting on zoloft. Zoloft will not work for all people but is worth the try. I love it and will never ever go off of it. Zoloft has changed my life and after 17 years of struggling with depression and anxiety, the dread is gone. 5 stars for the medicine Zolft. what a life saver

Go see your doctor! ...
...

I have anxiety, had taken Klonopin in the past and felt so much improved, I thought I'd be good on my own after using it for a year. Anxiety started in again about a year later, so I went to a new psych doctor who gave me Zoloft. Military doctors had tried me on SSRI's and they all seemed to make me feel like a stumbling drunk, they didn't listen to me and said benzo's are bad. Yeah, but they work! I think my body chemistry just doesn't mix with SSRI's and that is the way it is. Right now I feel like a zombie on only 25 mg's, I don't feel, only think of what I should feel, I don't want to do anything and my head has been funky, reeling most of the day and the anxiety has been heightened. Not my goal, so I'm done with this little pill.
...

I am diagnosed with both depression and anxiety. Unfortunately one anti-depressant medication was not enough to help with my depression. After several different attempts at finding the right combination, I ended up on Wellbutrin and Zoloft. My Zoloft dose has been as high as 150mg. and as low as 50mg. Once my depression was under control I found the 150mg too high. It made me very tired and I had a hard time remembering things. The doctor lowered the dose. A pleasant side effect was how much it helped with my anxiety. I've been taking it for more than a year and as long as the dose stays fairly low it is great for both my depression and anxiety. ...

I have been taking Zoloft for 3 years now and it has completely stabilized the depressive phase of my bi-polar. I am on a relatively small dose of Zoloft (25 mg/daily) and, in combination with other drugs, it has eliminated most of my depressive phases. My mother also began taking Zoloft for depression based on my success with the medicine. Zoloft has also been helpful for her. I have not noticed any side affects in the three years I have been taking Zoloft. I would recommend speaking with your doctor about the possibility of Zoloft helping you as well....

I have been taking Zoloft for 3 years. I take it for OCD and anxiety. It has been very beneficial to me. Because of the OCD I would spend 10-15 minutes every time I would leave the house checking to make sure the door was locked, stove off ect. Also, when I would get stressed ever something I was not able to stop thinking about that one thing. I could not change my thought pattern to something else for more than a few minutes. Zoloft has helped greatly with this. There are times I still check things, but nothing like before I started taking Zoloft. It has made my life much better. It does take a few weeks for its full effect to occur. I had no side effects from this medication....

after having anxiety and depression zoloft really helped me out alot after about three weeks of taken zoloft I no longer have anxiety attacks. I am still taken zoloft for my depression and I have been on it for almost a year now. I have not had any bad side effects with this medication only good side effects. My doctor is slowly down sizeing my miligrams and soon by next year I should be coming off of the medication. If you are really suffering with these symptoms as I was then this medication is really good for you so talk to your Doctor and see if it is right for you...
