cc2010 says "You will make you pay till you bleed" about Zip Car

I am always on time returning the car and sometimes over reserve the hours because I wasn't sure when I can get back. Here is what you should remember before you join:

1. They claim the car is always available: True, but where? It's not as convenience as they advertised. Sure, no problem, the car is available, but 3 miles away. You end up using other types of transportation to get to the car, especially on the weekends and around holidays.

2. You can always call to extend: True but at a cost!! Especially in big cities like NYC. They will charge you "late fees" even though you call to extend because extending the reservations cause inconvenience to those who reserve the car after you. It was $25 charge plus $3.5 for use human assistance for a 2 hour extension

3. Always a representative standby: True again, you pay! Every time you talk to them they charge you $3.50 for talking to a real person.

4. You can reserve for days: True, but make sure you know 3 days don't always mean 72 hours...

...

Chicagogirl says "Cust. serv. inconsistent and damage to car disaster to deal with" about Zip Car

It is fine unless you have to deal with customer service and then the experience starts to go downhill. They range from unfriendly and unhelpful to completely inconsistent and give conflicting advice and information.

And heaven forbid you don't notice damage to the car before you take it out because you will then be stuck with the $500 fine- I'd rather take a cab and not have the hassle.
...

jmd123 says "Convenient and economical alternative to car purchase or rentals" about Zip Car

Living in a bicycle-friendly town like I do, I can live without the hassles and expense of owning a car because I use Zipcar for mega-buying and out of town adventures. Zipcar takes care of the maintenance and insurance and gives a generous allowance for gas (they provide a gas card and up to 180 miles per 24-hour reservation). It's also fun having a variety of cars to drive; most in my university town are compact, but there is also an SUV when needed.

I've been very pleased with their service. The website, zipcar.com, is informative and easy to use, and when you register your mobile phone, they make it even easier with less buttons to push and message subscriptions you choose. When I called customer service with a question about a promotion, they were friendly, helpful, and solved the issue (which came from another vendor).

The services seem well thought out, for example, resources are available online, in the car, over the phone, and even on your membership card. Reservations are easily......

lawgirlt says "Your own wheels - w/o hi gas prices, insurance & maintenance!" about Zip Car

This sounds too good to be true, but it works. It took me a while to think of negatives for this review.

If you try and like the service share info only with your closest friends - or those who live far away from you. You don't want them taking all the cars!!

Customer service can be inconsistent. But you rarely need it. They cannot think outside the box if something goes wrong.

Having a car in a large city is pain, what with all the parking tickets, damage to the vehicle, maintenance, gas prices, etc. The Zipcar is not your problem. Just respect it while you are in it - no smoking, keep your pet in a container & take you junk with you - and you don't have to think about it. Even if it broke down since you last used it, you wouldn't care. There's anther one available.

I hesitated to write this review only because I am sick of them running out of cars on the weekend. But it is an excellent service

BEST OF ALL: Zipcar supports a program that gives women free rides home...
...
