mdpfirrman says "Great Authentic Italian, Reasonably Priced " about Zia's - St. Louis, MO

I am very particular and when my son had a recent soccer tournament there last month, we went there based on the overall positive reviews.

First of all, it is NOT easy to find, so if you have a map or a GPS, that is very helpful. I called about three times for directions and although you could tell they were very busy, they helped me each time.

Atmosphere is quaint, not really fancy and where we sat, you could actually feel the floorboard move everytime someone walked by.

I was not particularly impressed by the waiter. He seemed hurried and busy. Not very overly helpful or friendly but then again, we got there around 9PM after a long drive and probably did not look very good (my wife and I have 25 years combined in restaurants so we are particular on service).

To sum it up, the food was excellent. Some of the best Italian we have EVER had and we have eaten a lot. My compliments to the kitchen. If I could have, I would have given the kitchen half the more than generous...
...

Can't go wrong ordering anything from Zia's menu. Portion sizes are large enough that I always seem to have leftovers to take home for my next meal. . .or late night snack! Make sure to try the salad with your meal - it is a traditional Italian salad. Only drawback is that I'm not a fan of onions and it had quite a few on it. ...

I loved Zias! We wanted to try the famous Hill's italian food, and Zia's was open for lunch. At first I was afraid that it would be a generic italian restaurant because it looked and felt like the Pasta House, but the food was excellent and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a good italian lunch on the Hill....

mykonos says "WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED" about Zia's - St. Louis, MO

As an educator, my patience threshold is very high, however, my six years of experience could not have prepared me for the awful experience I had at Zia's. When our food orders came, two out of the three were wrong. The vegetarian I was with had specified a vegeterian dish and it came with meat sauce, while my medium well steak came out hard and completely brown in the middle. It was hard to cut and very dry. The waiter took both dishes back and apologized for my steak being "overcooked." The waiter brought back new orders, however, after a couple of bites, I found that my steak was fully of sinewy gristle and fat throughout. I was having to take pieces out of my mouth that I could not eat, which repulsed me, especially at a restaurant that was supposed to be higher quality. When I told the waiter, a female manager named Jamie came back and was immediately hostile, accusing me of sending the two orders back on purpose, and said she would not discard the steak meal from my......

Anyone who visits St. Louis needs to visit "The Hill" (our area's Little Italy) on a Saturday afternoon. The quaint Italian markets and bakeries set the tone for the number of restaurants that speckle the neighborhood.

Zia's is little restaurant on the corner. Once you enter, you are immediately hit with the lower lighting and the muffled clammering of dinner plates and idle chatter from the customers. The host/hostess is always courteous. Depending on the time that you go, there is usually a 10-30 minute wait, but it's worth it.

My husband swears by the Pasta Con Pesce (Linguine noodles prepared in a spicy cream sauce with shrimp, sea legs, clams, mushrooms and a touch of marinara sauce for only $11.95). He always goes on and on about the amount of seafood found in this dish. He said that the price for the seafood alone found in the dish is worth more than the dish itself.

I always get the Fettuccini Alfredo ($10.50). I have not found another restaurant that can...
...
