If you are looking for a dog that will cuddle with you, sit on your lap, and feel more like a child than a puppy...then you are looking for a Yorkshire Terrier dog.” Smart, loyal, and allergy friendly -- reviewers love Yorkshire Terriers. As a dog that loves attention, your Yorkshire will want to be near you always, and loves to cuddle. These dogs are small, easy to transport, and do very well in small apartments or in cities. Reviewers at Viewpoints stress how great these small terriers do as family pets. At the same time, however, prospective dog owners should be wary, especially if they have small children. With great loyalty comes a big of aggression, and many have described this cuddly lap dog as aggressive when dealing with strangers. They are generally good with kids, but try to avoid roughhousing or they may get defensive. But despite their aggressions, Viewpoints members love their little pups and overall, the dog breed "Yorkshire Terrier" gets the thumbs up. I love these little...
...

Before I begin, let me say that I'm incredibly biased. My little Yorkie is 5 years old and she's the love of my life. Yorkshire Terriers, affectionately known as "Yorkies," offer big personalities in a small package. Though members of the Toy Group, they are terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative and energetic. Yorkies are easily adaptable to all surroundings, travel well and make suitable pets for many homes. Due to their small size, they require limited exercise, but need daily interaction with their people. A daily walk is also recommended. Yorkies who do not get to go on a daily walk are more likely to display behavior problems. If yours zooms around the house like a speeding bullet, it is a sign that he/she needs to go on more/longer walks. I know mine behaves much better and barks much less when I walk her. The Yorkies are excellent watchdogs. They are sweet and loving and can be trusted with children. The problems only arise when owners, because of the dog's...
...

While the yorkie is among the hardest to housebreak of most all dog breeds, this is the only con of the breed. They are also the most loving dogs ever. Yorkies do not need a lot of exercise because they are small they tend to self-exercise on there own. The breed does not shed which makes it very nice. The breed loves to cuddle and be held and play games like fetch. My boyfriend's dad is a veterinarian and said that this breed does not have many health issues but that regular teeth checks are recommended. I have a Yorkie and we haven't had any problems with him yet and he is five. I love him to death. He is super smart and loves attention and to play and will curl up to cuddle any hour of the day. He has an awesome personality! Definitely a breed I recommend!...

I loved my Yorkie. His name was Tiger. I got him when my son was 6 months old. The first thing our baby did was pull on his fur and instead of the dog nipping at him he licked him. Tiger was very intellegent and very family attentive. He was the best dog. He was a family companion for 10 years. Although his life was cut short but a tragic automobile accident and devestated our family he will always be remembered. I am glad that I chose this type of dog for young children as he was always with the kids and was their best friend as well as mine. If your considering a Yorkie and you have childern please remember they are a very small dog and teach your children properly to have respect for the puppy and this will be one of the best family companions ever!...

My husband brought a little baby yorkie home on day, about a month after a miscarriage i had suffered. Now a year and a half later, i cannot imagine my life without my little Trixie. She is the best dog breed out there. She is a little stubborn, but she will learn pretty quickly what is right and wrong. I love this little girl. I plan on getting another soon. They don't shed so it is perfect for the families with allergies. They are just so adorable and will love you unconditionally. She did pick one person in the family and, of course it is me, but the others in the family try to play with her or hold her and she gets away from them and runs directly back to me and wants me to protect her. The only thing that is alittle bit of a problem is her incessant barking at our neighbors dog. They have a yorkie poo next door and she loves to "play" with her through the fence. ...

ssgang says "My Yorkie, my pal and forever companion. Great Dog!" about Yorkshire Terrier Dog Breed

Yorkshire Terriers are great dogs; very loyal and very alert. I got my first Yorkie, Pedi about 11 years ago. She was 6 weeks at that time and very fragile. She bonded best with just me although she put up with our other two dogs, a schnauzer and a samoyed. She always thinks she is the "BIG Dog". Not much scares her. Because of the terrier in her, you must
beaware of their attack nature. For instance, she can rat out a skunk a mile away and has
always put up a good smelly fight--her fight consists of jumping around like a rock and roll star while barking, barking, barking! One must feed yorkies a balanced healthy diet. Their
intestines need only the very best of foods--please, no table scraps. Yorkies also tend to
panic when their owners leave them especially at the vet! They can make themselves sick;
Heartsick! Otherwise, they are the most loyal canine I have ever had!

...

I don't know what I would do without my Yorkies!! They are the loves of our lives and fill our house with so much love!!

I don't think I ever stopped to realize how much I love them, until we lost our little Jordie! He had a Cleft Palate, that left him him with a hole in one nostril. But it never really bothered him.

He was such a lover! He would greet us every time we came home, with something in his mouth. It didn't matter to him, whatever he could find on the floor or on the patio, it was his prize to us! A wrapper, a tag, a leaf, anything he could find. We have never had another dog do that, but we do not know what is background was, so we figured maybe he was neglected and now that he found us, he wanted to tell us how much he loved us!!

We lost a huge piece of our hearts, that day in July 2006, but think about him everyday!!

Since then, we have been adopted by another Yorkie, Reba. Talk about a diva dog, she is it!! She then had a litter of puppies and...
...

I love yorkies, I used to own a yorky named fraizer. This was the best dog I had ever owned. I have had dogs since I was little most stayed in the house with me. As a house dog you would be hard pressed to find another as good. He loved everybody that he met. His biggest problem was he thought he was the size of a german Sheppard. One night he ran off the back porch after something and I could not stop him. I heard when the animal got him, what a terrible sound. I can only guess that it was a coyote, we hear them behind the house all the time. The next day in the light I found him. I never mourned so much over an animal. It has been 3 years this past October and I still miss him. He was 7 years old and I bought him as a pup.

Enough of the sad stuff. If you would like to find a good loving house dog a yorky is the best. (please don't use a puppy mill!!) I always kept his hair long but after about 4 years of taking care of it I finally decided to take him to the groomer....
...

Many people have always told me that yorkies are barkers. I got my first yorkie a year ago, and i love him to death. He never barks. He goes where ever i go. I have two small children, under the age of 2, and he does great with both. Sometimes my child likes to pull his hair and tail, and my yorkie has never tried to nip at him. I've always been a large breed lover, and i have just fell in love with the small breed. The only down fall is that he was very easy to potty train but was harder to train to sit, lay down and stay....

I purchased my first Yorkshire Terrier in 1996 a year before my son was born. My husband and I both had allegies and couldn't be around shedding animals. I researced non shedding allergy frindly pets and Yorkies were on the list. The breeder where I purchased my first Yorkie suggested going with the larger puppy in the litter. I brought him home and named him Bubba. He had a fantastic personality, was super smart, and didn't bother our allergies. Bubba was phenominal with my kids and we all cried for days when he passed last summer at age 11. While Bubba was still living we purchased 2 more Yorkies one for my daughter we named Maynerd and one to put out the fire of wanting another baby. :) We named him Loki. After Bubba passed I tried to fill a void and purchased our newest addition to our family was Kali. All 4 dogs have a personality all their own. They are fun to play with and watch but they are excellent cuddle dogs too.
...
