The 2007 Yamaha Silverado has a very comfortable weight and balance that is quite affordable for the intermediate bike range. Even with the big screen, the big trucks don't push the bike around too bad and with the low seat height, most riders can balance the bike with the knees.

I'm 5'9" and one of the chief complaints I have is with the location of the handlebars. I can't roll them back far enough to be comfortable (which may be the caused by the installation of the Mustang seat) and need to install a 1" riser to bring them up and back.

The bike winds up nicely, but I am looking for a 6th gear. Not for lack of throttle, just to bring the RPMs down.
...

Just picked my 650 classic up the other day. Use it instead of my truck for errands and to and from work. What a gas saver !!! Live in Hawaii so will use it all year.. Has plenty power and I agree with the 6th gear. Looked at 750 honda, kawasaki 500 harley 833 and overall for the price looks and ride, I had to make the choice I did. The bike is close to ground, so looking into the oil level glass that is restricted by foot rest means you must lay on the ground and level bike. I am 60 years old and that is one thing I do not like.

All and all very happy so far. Will get K&N oil and air filter soon.
...

I bought a used Yamaha V-Star Classic 650 about 9 years ago. I still have the bike but don't ride it that much anymore. I started to ride about 12 years ago on a Yamaha Virago. When I moved up to the V-Star, I notice a big different in freeway rides. The bike was really stable at speed above 80 mph, unlike my Virago. Within a year, I put on like 15,000 miles on the bike. About the only thing I have to maintain was oil changes, air filter, 1 set of spark plugs, and 1 air filter. Always start up on 1st tried, even on cold mornings. I installed a new set of Bub pipes and let me tell ya, it sounds so much better than stock pipes. I could have swear it feels like I gained another 3 to 5 horse powers too. With all that being said, the bike does have a few draw back though. First, it's way under power. There're times when I couldn't accelerate fast enough to keep myself in the clear. And when you tried to hug the road a little too much, it would rub on either side of...
...

Yamaha V-Star 650 is a good bike for the price tag that's associated with it. When I first looked into buying a new bike, I looked at all manufacturers. The one that really stood out as the best value was the Yamaha V-Star 650. For a couple thousand dollars more, you can buy a stripped down Harley Sporter, or you can save the money and get a bike that looks good out of the show room and spend the money personalizing it and end up with the bike you want, rather than a name on a gas tank.

I have the "Classic" with the raven paint & flames. I have stripped all the badges & decals off the bike and replaced the handlebars, grips, exhaust and have a few more tweeks that I want to add before my bike is truly mine and when I am finished, I will not have spent as much a buddy of mine, who helped me work on my bike and now wants to trade his harley in for one. People stop me frequently to ask me what kind of Harley I have!! With the popularity of import cruisers, after market parks have become readily...
...

Casserole says "A Civilized Beast" about Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic - 2007 Motorcycle

My Yamaha V Star 650 Classic is pearl white and definitely commands quiet admiration and respect -- unlike the more gawdily turned out bikes out there. Be careful not to tack on too much jewelry or studding, since Yamaha's done a great job designing this classic beauty, with just enough brightwork to generate oohs and aahs (instead of "Holy Cr*p!"). Yes, it does get mistaken for a (much, much more expensive) Harley-Davidson, and I've even seen some V Star Classics with H.D. insignias attached (shame!). This civilized but powerful beast is in its own class and is no H.D. wanna-be. The fit and finish is exceptional. The handling, shifting and throttling are smooth as silk. The pipes don't scream, that's true -- but they do sort of growl, which is kind of cool, actually. 505 pounds is far lighter than an 1100 or 1300, and the handline reflects it -- but it looks like a beefy/brawny and much heavier bike. And maybe it's just me, but there's something oddly amiable and proud about this Veester.......

I have a 2007 V-Star Custom. It is responsive, good-looking, gets 50+ MPG, reliable. No problems with it. If I were going to redesign it, the only thing I would do would be to add a 6th gear. Everyone compares their bikes to a Harley for sound. If that is the most important thing to you, use the $8,000 you save in initial cost and the $3000 in gas you'll save and buy some new pipes! Or, you can buy 2 V-Stars for the price of one Harley. ...

Looking for my first motorcycle last year left my head spinning: Harley, Honda, Victory, the list goes on. Being my first bike I wanted one that didn't lack for power but also wouldn't kill me. Harleys nice bike very expensive. Enter the VStar 650. Needless to say this bike shocked me. It is about the same size as the Harley Fat Boy at 1/2 the price. This little 650 moves, Throttle response is spot on, the light weight makes it easy to control and it can hold the highway at 80 mph all day long. And yes this little 650 does keep up with my buddy's 1200 Sportster. I would suggest changing out the seat for a Mustang. There is a world of difference between the two. The 4.2 gal fuel tank doesn't hit reserve till about 150 miles. It could use a 6th gear but that is minimal. All in all a great bike for the price and they are easy to customize. WIll I get a bigger bike?Shure I will, but I will NEVER get rid of my 650....

The seat is lower so I sit comfortable. This gives me more confidence in riding.

The 650 can do Highway miles with ease, I can go 70 without even knowing, it just glides. The sound of the pipes are not very loud, they are tough sounding, they rumble and growl. If you want a classy look with all the power, the 650 Custom is right up there with the best of them. This is the sharpest looking bike with all the style!
...

I wasn't "really" going to buy a bike at the time. I just stopped in the local dealer with a friend who had a problem with her 4 wheeler. To pass the time I went into the show room to view all the eye candy. After checking out all of the bigger bikes, I saw a line of bikes along the other wall with substantially lower tags. I thought "That can't be right!" and went to investigate further. I thought these were 1100's. Turns out they were 650's. 3 V-Star Classics and a Custom, along with a Silverado. These things are pretty well tricked out. Rider floorboards, heel-toe shifters, nice low seat, scads of chrome, and a great classic look. Alas, it was time to go. With a few backward glances I left the showroom.

I was back in a couple of days, after doing some online investigation. I really liked the look of that V-Star 650 Classic! The price tag wasn't bad either. ;-) I checked out some of the used cruisers they had as well, and the 1100's and 1300's but I kept migrating back to that red...
...

Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic 2007

Spring and a young man's heart turns to lov -- motorcycles, of course!

The Yamaha V-Star is a dynamite motorcycle with enough power for freeway cruising and enough style to cruise the neon lit boulevards of your town.

This is the perfect bike for a rider who longs after a Fat Boy or a Road King but doesn't have the $18,000 to buy one. At $6,000, the V-Star 650 is a slam dunk for the guys who like the Harley look and styling yet have a more modest libido for conspicuous consumption. I mean it's a third of the price.

The V-Star is a big bike, which standing next to a Harley will provoke double takes of confusion from enthusiasts because it looks like one of the nicer looking members of the Harley family.

The V-Star has great styling with both ends sporting a large Dunlop tire and big cruiser style fenders. The forks are Harley lookalike with the skinny legs currently in fashion. The engine covers have been dunked in sparkling chrome and the proven SOHC......
