My 4-year old and 3-year-old love this show. We don't watch it on TV, but we have 3 DVD's that we picked up at Target with 4 episodes each. Of the 12 episodes we have, they are allowed to watch 9 or 10 of them. There are a few that teach or encourage subtle lies, so we skip those. The ones that are good are very good, though. All of the characters in the show are animals that are made out of their letters. Many things in the show, like dog's house and frog's log are made out of letters as well. There is always at least one word "built" in each show and there's a catchly little song and dance the animals do when they're building a word. The letters are read and then they morph into the object, made out of the letters. It really doesn't teach phonics or even basic letter sounds, so I don't think this really teaches anything. I think it could be helpful for spelling for a child that can already read - my daughter has remembered how to spell 'pie' since she was tiny.
...

yoshi012506 says ""Word World" One of the Top ten shows your kids should watch." about Word World

When I first came upon the show Word World I was very impressed on how every character and object on this show were constructed by the actual letters that spell their name. For example the character frog has the letters FROG to make up his body parts, its brilliant in my opinion. This is a fun educational program with repetitive songs and rhymes that teach children how to spell and read. Before I knew it my then 2 year old was spelling words like drum, book, sheep, elephant and the list goes on. The reason I feel this is such a great productive show is my son was diagnosed with Autism and never really spoke but the minute he started watching Word World he was spelling and reading out loud along with the characters. His speech therapist watched one show with him and was amazed at his progress she highly recommended that he kept watching this show. Today my son is in school and he is reading and spelling at a higher level than his peers and I know that it is thanks to the help...
...

This is one of the best ideas anyone had for a children's educational show. My son started watching this on PBS and has converted us all into frequent watchers. Not only do I find the stories cute, but they help children get excited about reading and spelling.

My son knew his letters and their sounds by 2, so it was easy for him to understand how to put the words together. The characters sound out the sounds and then "build" the word. There is some repetition in the building and it is sing-song so that it is stimulating for the children to watch.

The characters are all made up of the letters in their names which has also helped my son remember how to spell words. Now they have toys that go along with the show and my boys have dog and duck and my three year old can spell several words from the show (hat, fly, dog, cat, duck, pie, to name a few).

The characters are entertaining, the stories are cute and fun, and the concpet is all about learning. Without certain letters, we can't make certain...
...

JGAndreko says "Great show to teach kids about words and spelling is important" about Word World

Word World is a great show to teach children that words are important to use. It also teaches them that spelling is important. The characters are great because they are made up of the letters in their names; for example Pig is made up of the letters P-I-G. Each thing in the show is made out of the letters in their word; for example Barn is made out of the letters B-A-R-N and roof is made out of the letters R-O-O-F. When the characters are trying to build something or make something or just need a new item, they teach the kids how to spell the word and the object appears before their eyes. The colors of the animals are very bright and captivating for children. I was very happy when they came out with some items for children from the Word World show. My children love to watch this show. It has helped teach them that words are important and that spelling words with the right letters will make them be understood better.
...

I have a 17 month son. He is very active but also very clingy. I have a hard time getting to much around the house. I no longer have cable at my house (we move and can't afford it). But when I was living with my mom, Word World is one of the shows that I would sit down to watch with him. It kept his attention as well as helped him learn. It is geared for slightly older children than mine, but he loved Word World anyway. it helps the kids learn to spell and sound out words with lots of fun as well. Teh characters are fun. And each one's body is made from their word. For example, the bear that is on the show, her bod is made front he word bear. As a matter of fact, every things is mde from it's word. There are other shows that he liked, but he enjoys the learning shows. And if I would have to get up and do something while Word World was on, I could because it kept his attention. I enjoy watching this show with my son and would recommend it to any parent.
...

TeenaAdkins says "Educational and Interesting" about Word World

Word World. Try saying that 5 times Fast. It's impossible, but in this show they do it while at the same time teaching children how to spell and say many everyday words. The creativity behind this show astounds me. In a world where everything is made of letters, Including the main charaters themselves, Anything can happen. My daughters favorite episode features Bear and Sheep who accidently breaks Cat box. Upon trying to puting back together (let's build a word) the "O" runs away. They chase it all through Word World, coming across various other charaters and getting into odd situations. Using the "O" as a hula hoop, a flotie, or even mistaking it for a dougnut. They finally chase it down and get it back to Cat.

I can't tell you how much my daughter loves this show, its on almost constant replay. And with the educational values I don't mind her watching it.

Also check at Target they have a line of Word World friend, there built just like in the show and held togther by magnets so that...
...

Word World~PBS

Absolutely love it! My 2 year old watches it, My 6 year old watches it. They both have learned so much from it. Not just about letters or words either. The other day my 6 year old told me "you should recycle the cans Mommy like they do on word world, it is best for our world too"

How can anyone not like a show that has good values, teaches letters, teaches words and how those letters and words sound.

I would suggest this show to anyone who has a child. Start early with this one. My 2 year old can spell and recongnize DOG, SHEEP, COW, FROG all because of this show.

Also a suggestion is the World World toys from Target. They go great while watching the show. My kids play with their toys and act out what they have just learned.
...

"Word World" is an awesome new kid's program on PBS. It's artfully illustrated and animated with individual letters that form objects when put together. My three year old loves this show and he says the alphabet along with it. I love that this show is peaking his interest in letters and he is now able to identify several letters on his own. Plus, I don;t mind watching it with him because I love to see how interested he is in the program! It's so nice that PBS has programming that actively promotes the development of young minds....

reviewgal3 says "One of the most innovative educational programs for preschoolers" about Word World

Word World has quickly become my 3 1/2 year old son's favorite show! And it's educational, which is a bonus!

This innovative children's program revolves around characters who are made out of letters that spell their names ("Dog," "Sheep," "Duck," "Frog," etc.) In fact, everything in Word World is constructed from letters. My son now knows how to spell the words "house," "barn," "drum," and "horn," just to name a few. I was impressed with how quickly my son picked up on this concept and was reading the words on his own, before the characters told the viewers what the words were.

For some reason, this cute little show has become the end-all, be-all for my son. Now that he's in preschool and can't watch it when it's on, I've been taping it for him and the first thing he wants to do when he gets home is to watch it. In fact, if he had his way, he'd watch all of the episodes I've saved on tape every day, over and over again!

The only complaint I have about this show is that there aren't enough......
