mbaboogie says "The wanna-be Gucci of grocery stores." about Whole Foods - Austin, TX

Whole Foods have positioned itself to be the Gucci of food grocercy stores. Most of their produce and meat products have the higheat retail prices in the local area. i do have to admit that the quality of the meat market is excellent however the quanities that one can afford is rathe rlimiting, at least for me.

I do like the bulk items as I like to buy the candes and ****. It is easy with the scoops by the bins and you can put the stuff in paper or plastic, however plastic is prefered as they weigh less that paper, Over a period of a few years the extra monies one would pay for the bulk items could add up to a considerable amount.

The vegatables and fruits are always fresh and in date. Never buy rotting or decaying fruit as it invites bugs and germs; not to mention the potential bad smell. Always eat bananas within a few days of ourchase as they tend to ripen quickly, especially stored next to apples.

Whole Foods overall is fairly good to okay.
...

sjt123 says "Great offerings, but somewhat limited selection" about Whole Foods - Austin, TX

If I'm looking for a selection of "ready to make" dinners that don't feel like they're "ready to make," my sights almost always turn to Whole Foods. They have a good selection of semiprepared foods as well as fully prepared foods which are perfect if I want to fire up the grill or the oven at home but don't want to take the time to make something from scratch. I've never had problems with the quality of anything that I've purchased and even though I may not always pick the healthiest option, the offerings are definitely a leg up over most restaurant or fastfood fare.

With all that said, Whole Foods is still a niche grocer. You won't find Crest toothpaste, Gilette shaving cream, or other things that you would find at your local HEB. That's a conscious decision by Whole Foods given their business model, but it's still worth mentioning since it's not a true supermarket replacement.

All in all, having a Whole Foods nearby is definitely a huge plus. The new downtown flagship store...
...

Trendy naturakl supermarket does offer something for different types of people. You can find a good selection of organic produce hers, along with plenty of conventially grown produce, including one of the most pesticide contaminated produce itams, strawberries. Packaged goods are all natural, some organic ans some natural junk food like refined flour, (natural) sugary cookiess. The prepared food seems to be a big hit....

First off, we shop at the Gateway Whole Foods Market at Research and Capital of Texas Highway regularly. Truth be told, Whole Foods was one of the reasons we came to Austin in the first place (the WFM World Headquarters are located at the massive 6th & Lamar location). Having lived in St. Augustine, Florida, where Native Sun, the only decent natural foods store in the area, was 25 miles away in Jacksonville, we looked forward to living in close proximity to a Whole Foods.

Having settled in NW Austin, the Gateway location is the Whole Foods where we most often do our shopping. However, due to a number of factors, we only buy meat and a few other items there, and the rest of our groceries elsewhere.

I'll let my wife explain:

"[The Gateway Whole Foods] is becoming a scary place to shop. Whole Foods has high prices, but they also have lots of organics, and non-polluted meats (no antibiotics, no hormones). I consider these essentials for my children. They face enough toxins in real life, I...
...

My kids got me a lovely large pink stargazer lily from Whole Foods Market in Portland OR for Mothers Day. This got me to thinking about the Whole Foods flower department which usually has a good selection of unusual plants like gardenias and orchids but may not be a place people think to go for flowers. I don't think the plants are organically grown which means the flowers are grown with pesticides just like other commercial flowers. This is something you have to watch at Whole Foods, many products are not organically grown, but still, the do have a good flower department, at least in Portland. No bargain though....

I am a avid Whole Foods store shopper! I actually get exited about grocery shopping at Whole Foods, and that says a lot for me , because grocery shopping in regular super markets is a real chore for me . I am very health conscious and very strict about reading labels for the ingredients content. I look for all natural, organic, and trans fat free, and sugar free, artificial free ingredients. It is difficult for me to find much of any of the foods my husband and I eat at regular super markets.
My diet and my husbands diet consists mostly of raw fruits and vegetables, raw nuts, lentils, some soy, and some fish, and whole grains. We avoid sugar, white flour, processed foods and harmfull fats, and fried foods, and artificial sweetners. Most everything on the super market shelves are highly processed, laden with sugar and fats, and excessive sodium and artificial coloring and sweetners, corn starch, corn sweetners, MSG, Nitrates, the list goes on for harmfull ingredients that are in food......

I could spend an hour in the produce section alone. If you are looking for something that you don't normally find in your regular grocery store, you are sure to find it here. Everything is fresh. Every time I have been there, there is someone in the produce department there to answer any questions you may have, and they are so helpful! Now on to the prepared foods...WOW! If I am ever at a loss as to what to prepare for dinner, I just wander into the prepared foods department and I know I will find something there. Everything is delicious! The staff behind the counter is always helpful with suggestions. Now don't get me started with the bakery department! Every once in awhile I will treat myself to their carrot cake.....decadent! I have also found that if there is something that I'm not sure I will like, I can ask an associate if I can try something, and they are happy to open the package and let me have a taste. Hands down, the best place to buy your groceries....

This store opened up not too long ago and I finally convinced my husband to enter through it's doors with me. AWESOME is all I can say! This store has a seafood, BBQ & sushi restaurant in it that's unbelievable in price and quality. Surprisingly the people that work there are incredibly nice and helpful, not something you tend to find in this area. I do some of our grocery shopping there and I even buy cat food from there since it's organic and cruelty free. They carry many "specialty" items as well as a lot of main stream items. The "food court" or buffet area has an enormous amount of food and choices. All fresh and great quality! Completely awesome store and I recommend it to anyone who lives in the area and hasn't been there yet! Here's information on this store's location:

Fair Lakes

SouthWhole Foods Market

4501 Market Commons Dr

Fairfax, VA 22033

Phone: 703.222.2058 Fax: 703.222.5090

ENJOY!
...

Living in Manhattan, there are not a ton of grocery stores. i have to travel to Whole Foods but am n
In 2007, Whole Foods Market is being recognized for increasing its green power purchasing to include more than 509 million kilowatt-hours of wind-based renewable energy credits. This is enough renewable energy to offset 100 percent of the electricity used in all of its stores, facilities, bake houses, distribution centers, regional offices and global headquarters in the U.S. and Canada. Whole Foods Market is the only FORTUNE 500 Company to offset 100 percent of its electricity use with renewable energy credits.
ever disappointed In what I find....

Customer Service is usually fast and friendly. Most of the staff are well-informed on the products. If you bring out food stamps or an Oregon Trail Card their attitude can change quickly.

They have a great selection of food you can eat at the store or grab and go. And a particularly good vegan selection.

For so long I stuck with what I knew in terms of eating and marketing. That is until I learned a better way of eating. An all natural(LOL)friend of mine told me about Whole Foods and from the moment I went I was hooked. Every trip their is filled with new discoveries and vast selections of things you dont often find at your regular markets. People hear Whole Foods and think "TOO PRICEY" but quality is well worth the coin...plus they to have sales just like other markets. I am currently addicted to their Jumble Cookies(packed with power and a taste that will have you craving more) filled with everything but the kitchen sink....treat yourself!...
