Purchased new Whirlpool washer model #WTW5300VW May, 2009. I have owned many Whirlpool products including washers in the past and have nothing but good things to say. Except, this time. This new washer is a living nightmare. I had a repacement delivered one week after buying it due to it not being able to provide warm water. I had two choices for water temp, hot or cold. It is suppose to have (4) temp. settings. The new washer did no better. It has an "Automatic Temperature Control" feature that is worthless. I can still get only hot or cold. I have to manually stand over it while it fills half way with cold water, then turn the dial to hot for the remaining fill. I have called Lowes and Whirlpool customer service. Lowes knows nothing and didn't even know that it had an "ATC" control. Whirlpool says to more or less "live with it" but they will pass on my displeasure to future product developers. It also is the noisest I have every owned. We turn up the TV inorder to try and drown out...
...

Recently my washing machine of 11 years went out (two weeks ago) It was a Sears Kenmore (or to those who know, a Whirlpool). So I found myself out shopping for a new washing machine at our local Sear Hardware and Appliance store. I like the Kenmaore brand since they are made for Sears by Whirlpool and my first one lasted 13 years and I had now had the one I was replacing for 11 years you might say I have had very good luck with this brand. I always purchase the heavy duty model, so that I can wash whatever I want to. I am a firm believer that if I have my own washer I should not have to go to the laundry mat for anything. Upon arriving at Sears I looked over the Kenmores they had to offer along with the Whirlpool brand names. I really did not like any of the ones they had, but was willing to settle for one that was on sale. The salesman told me it was a heavy duty as it did not state it on the machine, but he had a problem. The recent storm had taken out their computers and he could not...
...

We bought a Whirlpool topload washer Model WTW5540SQ0 in August of '06. I have hated it from the day we got it home. It's loud. It leaves the clothes half wet after it spins. You can respin the clothes & it doesn't help a bit. The clothes never come as clean as my old washer got them.

My previous washer & dryer were Kitchenaids. They lasted 20 years! They were quiet. They spun the clothes out really dry, especially towels. In fact, I'd take the tired Kitchenaid back if I could get it. Even barely working it was better than the Whirlpool

I heard that Kitchenaid washers were made by Whirlpool but there is a HUGE difference in quality.

My brother said most men think as long as you don't get the lowest priced washer you're getting a pretty good one. (That's exactly what my husband thought; he picked the Whirpool washer.) My brother said to look at the spin rpm & if it's not listed it's probably crap. I'll agree with my brother.

Six-year-old Duet has had handle break off in my hand. Luckily, I have figured out how to buy part locally and husband could fix this one. (PS - The replacement handle, $25, has a lifetime guarantee. Don't know why they didn't put the lifetime handle on the first time.) Often the Duet seems to not fully spin the water out. Friday night it broke completely. I had to pull sheets out and wring out by hand - took an hour to dry. Had to bail the entire washer out Saturday as I cannot get the cycle to reboot and drain. Will have to wait three to four days for repair, I imagine. Also, design faulty in that the nature of this front-loader is a giant grey rubber gasket around the door. It never leaks, so don't worry about that. But water/moisture does get under the gasket. I wondered about the odor and some of my aerobics clothes seemed to get a mildewed smell. One time when I was gone on business, my husband sniffed out the odor, peeled back the gasket and found 1/4 inch...
...

I would not buy anything but Whirlpool washers. They have a very large drum, and they are direct drive, there are no belts to break. They are very reliable and can handle large loads, even King size comforters. Sometimes Sears Kenmore washers are the same as Whirlpool. Compare prices and features throughout their lines to establish the best value for you. Retail Appliances are sold at relatively low margins, but if you ask for a discount, you will probably get one.
...

I have a whirlpool front loading washing maching for 5 years now. I just love the washing machine. You use less soap than a top loader and it does all the figuring for you. You don't have to pick large or small load it does it all. The only problem is that when the maching spins it shakes everything. I even have the pedestal for it. I could not survive without it.
...

I really love the capacity of this washing machine. However, it has a few bugs that need to be worked out. The first one is that the ultra concentrated fabric softeners tend to clog up in the soap tray and then have to washed out. The second problem I have constantly is that we have to take the front of the machine to unscrew and empty out a add on filter that is in the drain hose. I realize this was invented to protect your septic and sewer from coins and other things that slip past the empting of the pockets. However, we have to clean this out about twice a month and since it clogs up we also have to put a dishpan under it to drain the water out.
...

Usually when I go shopping for a new washer I usually do not look at the name brand that I am buying. But somehow, without even realizing it, I almost alwasys end up with a Whirlpool washer. When I do go to purchase a new washer I always look at what I am capable of placing inside the machine itself (I do not believe in doing small loads of laundry. In fact I have never really done a small load that often.). I figure if I am capable of placing a king size comforter inside of it, and wash it, with no problem then we have a winner. Every Whirlpool that I have had, so far, has met this requirement (yes I said requirement, if it does not pass said requirement that model does not get a second look. I know that is probably cruel, but it is true.). The Whirlpool that I have now is of the commercial quality variety, with seven cycles (possibly one of my personal faves), and three speeds. It has a built in bleach dispenser, but it could use a built in fabric softener dispenser (this is about the...
...

Jemmom says "Very slow, oversudses, doesn't always drain fully" about Whirlpool Washing Machine

My Whirlpool Duet - top of the line (retailed 3 years ago at about $1,700 CAD - front loader makes laundry a very slow process. Oversudsing is a real problem and I only use HE detergent and use about half of the recommended amount. A load showing 40 minutes actually takes longer; when on the final spin the timer can sit on 1 minute for a very long time. Even when the cycle finally stops by itself you can sometimes hear water sloshing when you move the drum.

The seal is a problem to clean; the machine can quickly smell musty if any wet load sits too long. I try to wipe under the seal and dry the inside out after use but you just can't reach everything under the seal. I don't leave the door open due to having pets who would climb in.

While on holidays recently I read an article in a Florida daily newspaper indicating that there was a class action suit against several companies manufacturing front loaders due to the smell, mustiness, and mildew forming.
