I recently purchase the Whirlpool Duet Steam 9500 Washer and Dryer. I love it! I can't say enough about the amount of water that is NOT wasted with the top load washers. Trying to cut cost with the falling economy, these units pay for itself. With a six year old daughter who loves dirt, stains are a thing of the past.
...

PaddyB says "The Whirlpool Duet Washer is an absolute piece of junk." about Whirlpool Duet - Washer Dryer

3 years and I had to replace the door gasket for $250 on my whirlpool duet washing machine. After 3.5 years the main bearing is going bad. Cost prohibitive to repair. I've subsequntly have gone on line to research this issue and have discovered this is not an uncommon problem. Before you buy, please reseach. If you still decide to buy, please get the extended warranty.

On top of the mechanical problems this thing stinks (actually smells). The design promotes mold and mildew that will premeate through your house. Oh, there's a fix for that too. Just pay about $40's per year for a product to reduce the stench.

Sady I replaced a 20 year old top loader for this piece of junk.
...

My wife and I have been doing research on new front loading washers and dryers. We subscribed to Consumer Reports and found their top pick. We then went to user reviews, which were mostly completely opposite of what Consumer Reports stated. After much research, we decided on the Whirlpool Duet HE (High Efficiency) set. WOW!! What an amazing purchase. We read that most front load washers were loud and shook terribly, when in the spin cycle. When we asked the delivery technician, he told us that as long as the washer was balanced when the initial set-up took place, we shouldn't have any problems. We have not experienced any of the shaking. One nice thing about the HE, is that you use less detergent. I was skeptical, at first, as the HE detergent came in the same size bottle as standard detergent, and both bottles stated they would do 96 loads. What I didn't take into account though, was that the washer will wash double the amount of clothes per load. My wife and I no...
...

I purchased a Whirpool Duet Washer at a great price - a floor model - for $450. The appeal of the great price quickly gave way to regret, and now I'm planning to return it in exchange for a top loader. The installers did a great job delivering and setting up the machine. As soon as we washed clothes, however, we realized it was completely unusable. It shook and banged and moved across the floor. It was so loud and moved so much it looked like it would knock a hole in the wall. We ran into the laundry room and braced ourselves against the machine to try to keep it still! The noise scared the kids! We called Whirpool and the service guy told us this type of machine should really only be installed on the ground floor of a home built on a slab. (!!!important to know!!! We have a crawl space.) He also said sales people "should really mention that to buyers." However, I actually saw a Duet demo online promoting the fact this washer is great for upstairs laundry rooms and...
...

I have the Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer. Once the honeymoon period was over,
the clothes started to smell awful. After switching detergents and having to wash loads over
again therefore wasting more electrictiy and water, I realized it's the washer's problem. I can't
wait to get rid of it and get a good old top loader. I miss the smell of my fresh scented
clothes. I don't mind the dryer. That I do intend to keep. The washer however, total
disappointment. I can never get jeans of bed sheets or towels to smell nice....

The Whirlpool Duet washer is without a doubt the worst washing machine I ever bought. Sure it has a large capacity - but the clothes do not come out clean and we've found holes in many of them. The handles have broken off twice and there is always water in the detergent cups. The worst part is the mold that builds up on the rubber seal. No matter how much I scrub with bleach and a toothbrush, I can't get it clean. It smells so bad, I think my clothes may actually get more dirty by putting them in!

I've only had it for 3 years, but I plan to replace it soon, probably with a Miele.
...

I bought the Duet dryer and washer. At first, I was so happy with them. The spin cycle is amazing. But when my daughter became sensitive to dust mites, then my son had head lice, and later we had a kid come stay with us who had bed bugs. The washer and dryer was not hot enough to kill them. We even turned our water temp up to 140 degrees farenheit in the home, but you can't control the Duet enough to even soak a garment in hot water. Quite simply, these vermon grew like crazy in our clothes and then into our home. Ever since, I've been soaking all our laundry in hot water in a bucket before laundering. I'm sorry I bought it. I'm looking forward to buying a new washer and dryer which is hot enough, and my Duet washer and dryer are only a couple of years old.
...

MaryDLSU says "Duet is Great Washer/Dryer!" about Whirlpool Duet - Washer Dryer

I did a lot of research before deciding to purchase the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer. I comparison shopped at various big box stores for pricing and information, but I find the best advice usually comes from asking the salespeople the combo questions of "What would you buy if you could get a new washer/dryer?" and "Which set has the most equipment problems/Is repaired most frequently/expensively?" The Duet is my first washer/dryer, and I had no idea the washer door must be open when it is not in use. It's not a problem for me, but if you read one of the reviews below, you'll see what happens if you leave the door closed: serious mold issues.

The biggest plus is the energy star rating on the Duet washer. You pay more initially, the electricity and water usage it takes to perform loads is much less than a standard top loading washer.

The sounds the Duet washer makes during its wash cycle sound a bit foreign to us - kinda like a plane engine warming up and cooling down. ...
...

concernedbuyer says "WhirlDuet cannot handle heavy use" about Whirlpool Duet - Washer Dryer

Regarding the Whirlpool Duet. I have very heavy laundry use. I run a dog rescue as well as raise kids. I probably do at least 3 loads of laundry a day between dog blankets and and regular clothes. I am finding that the washer just cannot keep up. The cycles are way too long taking double the time to do a load of laundry. I am constantly cleaning out the ring and finding lost items to retrieve. With the dog blankets I am constantly cleaning dog hair from the glass and the ring whereas with the cheaper washers it was never a problem. There was never a concern with washing dog blankets and then regular clothes until I purchased this machine. We now literally take a washcloth with bleach to wipe it out before we will place in another load. I am disapointed that I spend the money that I did and am real close to just buying a cheaper washing machine.

The dryer works great.

I am so dissapointed with this washer. I spent almost $1000.00 on a washer because I wanted a good washer that would last a long time! Boy was I fooled. The rubber seal broke in less than a year! BUYER BEWARE...TO REPAIR THE RUBBER SEAL IS ABOUT $200 AND NOT COVERED BY THE WARRENTY. Guess what? After I spent $200 to have the new seal put on, it broke again and I had water leaking out everywhere! I cannot believe I paid this much money on a washer that is such a piece of JUNK! I spoke to about everyone in customer service that I could with nothing more than a "tough luck for you". My repair man said the most business he gets is from the Whirlpool Duet Washer. I am beginning to think they were manufactured to create repair man jobs!!! OUTRAGED!!!
...

I LOVE the dryer, it is so roomy and so efficient. The washer leaves me with mixed feelings. Often the clothes come out of the washer all twisted and these twists do not straighten out with drying --even if I shake them out first. Sometimes the washer requires an extra spin cycle. The repairman (yes, we have already had a repair) said to use much less of the HD laundry soap and said to basically load the machine as full as possible.
...

I love my Whirlpool Duet. The washer and dryer are so efficient. I've never had a dryer that finished before the washer! The washer is so quiet that you can't even tell that it is running. I use so much less water than I did before, it is crazy! The savings is incredible. My ONLY complaint would be that sometimes jeans and pants get twisted in the washer. So, I have to shake them out a little before putting them in the dryer...No big deal though!
...

When my last dryer died, I had to search quite awhile before I opted to purchase the Whirlpool Front Load Steam Dryer and since my research said if you have a high performance dryer you should have the washer for it to really do its job, so I ended up buying both the washer and the dryer.

Love these machines. I have them stacked to save space and it also help when loading from the washer (on the bottom) to the dryer. The clothes are at eye level when dry which makes it easy to see what I am about to fold. When washing, I add the bleach, and softener and leave it to do the work. These hold huge amounts of clothes (about twice as much as a regular machine) and the items come out clean no matter how much I shove into them. I also think that I see less ware on my close because they get gently tumbled rather than agitated. Well worth the extra expense that these cost.
...
