harriedlaunderer says "overpriced junk" about Whirlpool Duet Dryer

I can't believe what a lousy dryer this is. First and most important, it takes more time to start it up than it does to get my kids out of bed and ready for school. It has to be coaxed; the laundry has to be rearranged carefully in the bin, the start button won't work most of the time. You have to finagle and finagle, rub a wet cloth over the sensor, etc. And then when you get it working it dries your clothes all wrinkled. A nightmare.
...

I purchased a Whirlpool Duet Dryer the first of this year (2009) and have not been completely satisfied. The clothes usually do not get dried even at high heat for 35-40 minutes. This dryer has been advertised as drying in just over 30 minutes. I do admit the exhaust hose has a curve in it, but would this be causing the problem? I had purchased my other dryer as used for $75.00 in 2001 and it was working fine, drying completely, except I was concerned about electricity efficiency. Now, I'm worried even more since this is a new dryer and is supposed to be energy efficient. Otherwise, I do like the dryer.
...

I have owned my Whirlpool Duet Electric Clothes Dryer for 5-years now and the main console control panel ($240) has failed twice. No other electronic devices have failed in my home during the past 5-years so I do not believe power surges or sags are to blame....

Do not waste your money on a Whirpool product. I bought the Duet Washer and Dryer barely three years ago and the dryer no longer works. Whirpool wants $400 for the part and an additional $150.00 in labor charges to repair a dryer that costs $600.00.

Their "customer service" department is a joke!

discouraged says "DUET HT DRYER - NOT AN EASY FIX" about Whirlpool Duet Dryer

I have owned the Whirlpool Duet HT Dryer for 2 years. Worked great until recently. Door started to open during cycle and turned machine off - returned to find a load of wet clothes. Have service contract. First repair man changed latches. Second repair man changed latches again and said if that doesn't work there is nothing else that can be done. Third repair man suggested changing hinge. Returned with new hinge and door. Installed both. Now the door stays closed during cycle but is still not right. If you don't get it in the exact spot it won't close and the light stays on. Going to call Lowe's again, but not holding my breath. Poor quality and seems to be difficult or impossible to fix! Pretty disgusted
...

DeniseDonohue says "do not buy a Duet" about Whirlpool Duet Dryer

I have had it up to here with the Duet washer and dryer. Mine are 6 years old - perhaps something has changed dramatically, but I am disgusted by the Whirlpool, Maytag and Jenn-Air appliances. (We are typical family of 4.) Dryer lint trap, being vertical, allows items to slip down the sides. Coins, shirt stays and guitar picks have all slipped through the lint trap sides before we figured this out. Several coins rolled onto the mother board over time, eventually shorting it out!!! This was an expensive sales call. You try to check pockets - but don't believe that nothing can slip alongside lint trap. Also, the narrowness of vertical lint trap makes it so you cannot get your vacuum nozzle into it (even w/attachments) to suck out lint that gets past the lint trap. AND they don't make a special brush for cleaning it out either. I have similar complaints about the washer.
...

We purchased our Whirlpool Duet Dryer in 2007 just before I had surgery on my hip after fracturing it in an automobile accident. Ours is a large family- an 18 year old, 17 year old, 15 years old and an 11 year old. With all of the kids being involved in school and extracurricular activities, and my husband and I carrying on daily activities- we wash a LOT of clothes. I have worn out more washers and dryers in our twenty year marriage than I care to admit!

In doing my research on heavy duty appliances, I noticed that the Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer could handle LARGE loads of clothes without taxing the system. That seemed to be exactly what I needed. The front loading system would also prove to be an asset. When comparing the Whirlpool Duet products, I noted that the openings to the basket of both appliances was large and easily accessible, where in other products, the openings were small and difficult to reach into to load or unload. Having a disabling disease process,...
...

The Whirlpool Duet Sport Dryer has been very reliable over the past 2 years. I have a husband who's messier than a 2 year old. I also have a small personal zoo consisting of 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 conure, 1 macaw currently. I have lots of laundry with animal fur, general bird mess, lots of blankets,& small rugs. The dryer has a large capcity & has handled everything great. I have the gas dryer and it is very energy conservative. I have seen the difference in utility bill(previous dryer was electric). Many setting selection so you can safely dry anything from delicates to rough stuff.
...

I have owned the Whirlpool Duet GEW9200LL1 electronic electric dryer since 2004. I purchased mine with the optional pedestal (drawer opens out to store your detergents, softeners and hangers. It raises the dryer height about 13 inches making the unit total height of 51 inches). The dryer has many features: automatic cycles (heavy duty, normal, casual, delicate and super delicate, manual cycles (timed dry, touch up and quick dry). You can select the dryness level (normal, more dry or less dry). You can also add more time to the wash or reduce the wash time. There is a status section that illuminates at each interval of the washing cycle (sensing, wet, damp, cool down, cycle complete, wrinkle shield and control locked). There is a window with the estimated time remaining. There is also a pause/cancel button.

You can set the cycle to add wrinkle shield (turns on the dryer every five minutes for 1 minute after a load has finished to prevent your clothes from wrinkling). ...
...

AleksanderJulian says "The dryer is great" about Whirlpool Duet Dryer

The Whirlpool Duet Sport Dryer is great, not just because it matches my Whirlpool Duet Washer but because it drys my clothes so quickly.

I like this dryer. It is quiet and the lint catcher is easy to clean. It is easy to load. It is so much more energy efficient than the Kenmore I used to own. The finish on this dryer seems strong and does not mar very easy. The dryer is compact and fits well in a small space.

This dryer is backed by one of the most trusted names in appliance manufacturing. I would say overall that this dryer is user friendly. It sits well beside it's twin. I did not buy it but there is available a table/counter like top to go over both appliances making them like one.

Mine is in a white finish but I also think the red finish is very striking. It can be converted from electric to gas very easily. This gas dryer has saved so much money on my electric bill too. I really like this Whirlpool Duet Sport Dryer.
...

There are a lot of large-capacity energy-efficient dryers out there now-a-days, but this Whirlpool Duet dryer is one of the best around.

The huge capacity fast drying time of this dryer allows me to easily keep pace with the washer. No more waiting for the dryer to finish before I can transfer loads! Also, this dryer has a sensor system which automatically sets your drying times and prevents wasting energy by running it longer than necessary. There are 8 different cycles and 5 different temperature settings so you are always sure to get an energy-efficient dry cycle.

The wrinkle shield setting has been a god-send! It provides intermittent tumbling to keep all my permanent press items from wrinkling, which is wonderful for when I need a little extra time before running down to the dryer to pull everything out. The cycle-over buzzer is also very helpful and can be set for a loud or quiet setting making it perfect for the basement or main living levels of your home. ...
...
