Computer storage is always an issue. I create a lot of graphic images for my web sites and Incredimail I realized the best route would be to purchase an external hard drive. I am back to Staples for the purchase and great advice. This is a great place for me to shop as it is only three blocks from my house.

There were many choices but Western Digital has an excellent reputation so I selected the Western Digital Passport Passport Portable Hard drive is best decision I made. The price difference between the two choices was so nominal that I selected the 500GB drive and have not regretted this decision for one minute.

I can use my Passport hard drive on both of my computers. It saves storage space on both computers as I can simply save all my work on the Passport hard drive and share the file.

I can also store all my web sites on my Passport hard drive. It is always a good idea to back up your web sites. I have a rather large personal web site and it disappeared down some black hole never...
...

In general, I like it. It is really small, it has plenty of storage space and doesn't need additional power. It is very helpful to transfer all my data from office desktop to my home computer. I read some customers had problems with its durability, but for me: so far so good.
...

I bought mine after I started to run out of hard drive space on my small 60 gig internal drive on my Mac Book (too many music files!) My friend uses one for transporting files back and forth between his work computer and his laptop at home, as he is a graphic designer and needs gigs upon gigs of storage for his projects everyday. I bought the 160 gig red version, which not only looks very nice sitting next to my Mac, but is incredibly portable.

The transfer rates are not lightning fast, but fast enough to put gigs of media files on it in minutes. The USB cable is only about 6 or 7 inches long, but since it is a portable drive, it is great to not have the clutter of a long wire. It is plug and play, so simply open the box, plug it into your computer and start loading files onto it in seconds. Partition it for different computers (Mac/PC) or purposes (backup/media, document storage) which is incredibly useful and easy to do with a breif instruction via the included users guide on the hard......

awanda2139 says "The best little hard drive I've seen yet!" about Western Digital WDXMS1200 Passport Portable Hard Drive

This is a great little drive! I've used the USB Keys for many things and love those, but they are still limited in the drive size (unless you want to spend BIG bucks). Instead, this little diddy has the capacity to hold all my image files! And since it doesn't require a specific driver (Windows XP automatically installs it), it is true plug-n-play technology. It is quiet, too. I have a 250GB external hard drive that whines like you wouldn't believe. I don't notice it if the TV is on or something, but if it is quiet in the area, that whining is a pain. This little drive is so quiet, you don't hear it. Also, I've had it plugged in for hours and it doesn't seem to get as hot as a regular external drive....

This is a great unit. This is the 3rd mini USB hard drive that I have owned and it is by far the best.
Not much bigger than a thumb drive
Not much more expensive then a 4GB thumb drive
Has a ton more storage and options

I have a bunch of thimb drives that I used to carry around - in fact, it was an awkward pocket full that I would carry around. Now I've got one of these and I don't have to worry about running out of room anymore plus I dont have to worry about losing one of the drives now either. It's all contained in one nice neat package....

Isn't it great when things work even better than you thought they would? That's the case with the Western Digital WDXMS1200 Passport portable hard drive. I bought mine at Costco for $140 but it is now selling for $90. The WDXMS1200 mostly has been replaced by the WDXMS1600, which has even more storage -- I'll get to its specs in a moment.

What It Is

The Western Digital WDXMS1200 is a small portable hard drive with a capacity of 120 GB. It is powered through its USB port, which means that it does not require an external power supply. That is a wonderful feature right there. The unit is small, about the size of a paperback book. Mine came with a durable case that makes it easy to carry the WDXMS1200 when traveling, something I've done many times.

The hard drive in the WDXMS1200 spins at 5,400 RPM, which is typical for drives this size. It is fast enough to keep up with the needs of my laptop computer and that's where I mostly use this Western Digital drive. The unit came with an 18-inch USB...
...
