I use to buy microwave popcorn but decided to save money and make my own. I use Canola and Olive Oil to make it . You don't need butter but you get a buttery taste from the oils. It's fun to watch it pop also. It pops every last kernal.
...

ecw2000 says "Sadly, it didn't meet my expectations..." about West Bend Stir Crazy - Popcorn Popper

Sadly, the West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Maker 82306 didn't live up to my expectations. I was so excited because it made me remember the nostalgic taste and experience of popping popcorn with a little bit of oil, butter and salt and watching the butter melt down onto the kernals. I was not impressed with the lack of an on/off switch. I was disappointed when the non-stick coating started flaking after the second use.

On a positive note, I did like the top's ability to double as the bowl. It was relatively easy to clean up and my daughter really enjoyed watching it stir and pop. (I did too!) This did pop more kernals than some of the other poppers I have used.

I feel the one from my youth was built better and performed better than this one and that it isn't worth the price I paid. However, I would still recommend it to my friends/family if they are looking for an electric hot-oil popper with a warning that the outside gets very hot so caution is needed - especially around children...
...

smgibson89 says "best popper ever, been using for 20 years, on #4." about West Bend Stir Crazy - Popcorn Popper

The stir crazy popper by west bend is the best popper we've ever had. We got our first one as a wedding presant almost twenty years ago. When that opne wore out, we replaced it. In be tween we have tried a hot air popper, that was like eating popped cardboard. We also tried a microwave popper, that made a slightly better popped cardboard. In the end we always return to our stir crazy. Right now we are on popper number four. I think we foulnd number two at the local thrift shop in almost pristine condition. Number three must have been a christmas present one year and number four was my birthday this past september. In the past twenty years, the price hasn't changed much and the quality has been reliable. It is all around a good deal. I heartily recommend this product.
...

gloriamarkiewicz says "The west bend Stir Crazy popcorn popper makes the best freshest " about West Bend Stir Crazy - Popcorn Popper

I bought my husband the West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper for Christmas and next to our coffee pot it has become our most used counter top appliance. The taste of fresh popcorn made in Sir Crazy is far superior to Microwaved popcorn. Because the unit is so easy to clean we use it most nights for a snack that is not only delicious, but healthy. The popper was hard to find at Christmas time because so many stores were sold out. I will by one for each of my children this year but I will hit the stores earlier. We sometimes ad butter when we are making popcorn, but I don't think it is necessary although the West Bend Stir Crazy popcorn popper makes that very easy to do. I would highly recommend the West Bend Stir Crazy Pop Corn Popper to anyone looking for an easy way to make a healthy, not very fattening treat for their family. No home with children should be without one. A child could use it.
...

The West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper is the absolute best popcorn popper I have ever owned. I have mine for over 20 years and I hope it lasts forever. I just plug it in, add the oil and popcorn and cover it and let it go. It'll stop once all the kernels have popped. Then you just flip it over and the popcorn is right in the bowl and ready to be served, but beware, you'll be making more than one batch
...

wolfj2 says "It works and is fun to watch but a bit messy and hot." about West Bend Stir Crazy - Popcorn Popper

The West Bend Stir Crazy popper is OK as it brings back good memories. You put in some oil, popcorn and salt and just plug it in. It's hard to know how much popcorn to put in though. It sometimes pops too much and it takes the top off. The outside gets really hot too so the kids need to stay back. You flip the HOT machine over when it's done and then set the machine aside. Sometimes if you put in salt with the oil and corn, it scrapes the the bottom of the machine. It doesn't scratch though. This machine has no way of storing the popcorn for later use. When I make popcorn in a large pot with a lid, I can just leave it in there afterward and it will stay fresh. Not so with this unit.

Cleaning up is OK. You can't put the lid in the dishwasher and you have to wipe out the machine and take apart a tiny piece that spins on the bottom.

West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper. This is the greatest thing for a popcorn lover such as myself. I'm on my 2nd one. So far I've had this one for abput 10 years. I don't use the butter well though. For some reason I can't get the melted butter to go down the holes! I just melt the butter in the microwave. My granddson thinks it's so cool to watch it. Just a tad different than putting the other high calorie popcorn in the microwave. :)...

The West Bend Stir Crazy popcorn popper is the best popper ever! This popper makes 6 quarts of popped corn in about 6 - 8 minutes. I am not a fan of microwave popcorn because it always seems to have an after-taste. Air popped corn always seemed dry and had a Styrofoam-like texture to it. The Stir Crazy popper makes light and fluffy popcorn. It has a nonstick surface and a wire that spins in the bottom which helps prevent burning. I have been using this popper for the past 12 years and have never burned one batch. With the nonstick surface, clean-up is easy. As a true popcorn lover, I highly recommend this product to other popcorn lovers....
