NMiller says "Perfect compact grill" about Weber Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

I love this grill. My fiance bought it while we were in college since we didn't have room for a full-size grill. Since then, we've brought the gill on many camping trips and vacations.

My fiance said he just bought the "Gold" model because he liked the color better, but it turns out that the "Gold" model is actually worth the extra ~$10 you pay for the grill, because of the additional features. This model is closed on the bottom and has these nice closable side ventss. That means that when you are done grilling, all you have to do is put the top on and close the side vents. The whole thing seals up, so the coals burn out quickly and there's no mess at all. Most of the time, we just close the thing up, put it in the car and forget about cleaning up the coals until we get home.

I see some other reviews that complain that there are no bottom vents, but think about it.... if there were bottom vents you would make a huge mess if you were to try to put the thing in the car! And...
...

Had a Smokey Joe for a long time. It was portable and easy to take along. Put it on a picnic table and go to town. Liked that it was easy to load and light, but it did take time to cook a large amount. Great for 2-3 people. Beginner grillers will like this.
...

I take my Smokey Joe every with me every time I hit the outdoors because I never know when or where the urge for roasted or smoked meat and vegetables may strike. I love to hunt many types of wild game so I'm out during different times of the year. I fish from Spring to late fall. I camp and I love cookouts on the fly. My Smokey Joe has been my go to grill for as long as they have been in existance. It is not the only portable grill I own but it is my favorite because I get that even cooking and excellent quality that Weber is famous for. This is the only small grill that I have seen that is capable of smoking and grilling. Weber improved on a perfect design when it added the handles that lock the lid in place for storage and travel. That means you can toss your coals in the grill, lock the lid down and get the heck out of Dodge. The only draw back I see is the fact that the grilling surface could be a little bigger.
...

Anana17 says "The Smokey Joe is the little grill that could!" about Weber Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

I love the Weber Smokey Joe. I live in a townhouse so I don't have a lot of storage room or outdoor space for grilling. The Smokey Joe is great because it is so compact and durable. It fits nicely in a corner of the garage and doesn't get in the way when not in use. When it is being used, it doesn't take up the whole, tiny backyard. Usually, it is only used for grilling for my husband and me, but when we ask it to cook for a party, it does a great job. I would choose to cook with charcoal over gas any day and this is a great little charcoal BBQ. I like that I only need to use a little bit of charcoal as compared to a full size grill, especially since I am usually grilling for only two people. It is easy to empty the ashes since it is so small and the grills and exterior are durable and well made. It has bottom and top vents for easy heat control. The little tri-pod feet keep it stable and the top has a high-quality wood handle.
...

rmanasco says "Weber Smokey Joe Platinum Charcoal Grill great GRILL!" about Weber Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

I bought this at ACE Hardeware a couple of months back. My grill says the Smokey Joe Platinum Charcoal Grill but there is no difference that I can tell between the gold and platinum version. I really like this little grill. It is great for just 2 people. I have used irt several times and have more or less parked my gass grills. The smokey joe is much easier to use and cooks better than the gas grills that I have. It is made pretty well also. i was surprised by the weight of the grill when Ipicked it up. It is easy to move around and can be used about any where. It is eay to take with you and easy to store....

I bought ours in 2007, and it has served us well. It sat outside on the front patio all winter and hardly rusted at all! The size is perfect for two people, it's very portable, and will most likely still be useable should we have to move to smaller digs anytime soon. The perfect size to take to the park....

CyndiA says "Great road trip or tailgate grill - Weber Smokey Joe." about Weber Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

I got a Weber Smokey Joe tailgate grill many years ago. Our household goods were in storage with a military move. I wanted to grill out, so I picked up this small grill by Weber.

The little Weber grill works just as well as the big one. It has the same kettle shape that means even cooking. The vents on top help with heat regulation. The bigger one has bottom vents. This one does not. Too messy I'd say.

Obviously the Weber Smokey Joe won't hold as much as the larger sized Weber grills, but it holds more than I would have thought. It works fine for family cook outs (and uses less charcoal), and it's a nice second grill for side dishes or hot dogs.

When I want to cook up small amounts, I generally grab this little grill. We use it about once per week. We also take it on trips like to concerts or ballgames.

If you do use the Smokey Joe for tailgating, be sure to take some water to make sure the coals are out before you put the grill back in your car. Also, a large black heavy duty trash bag...
...

If you're going camping for a week or just one day...buy this little brother to the bigger Weber Kettle. It breathes better than cheaper knock-offs, allowing the meat to cook faster and more evenly. It's not for super big jobs all at once. But, even if you have a big group, hot dogs & hamburgers only take a few minutes.

I like to do chicken leg quarters on mine. Will hold 4 of these easily. Not too much to say on this one. It's a "Jr." version of the Weber Kettle and will last for YEARS!
...
