http://www.viewpoints.com/We-Own-the-Night-reviews Sat, 06 Sep 2008 15:20:09 GMT Latest reviews about We Own the Night http://www.viewpoints.com/We-Own-the-Night-review-a7771 When I read the DVD synopsis of the movie, <strong>We Own The Night</strong>, I was expecting an intense thriller with fine acting and a smart story.  Instead, I found the movie to be completely unoriginal, a bit tedious, and often predictable. <p>Joaquin Phoenix stars as Bobby Green and Mark Wahlberg takes on the role of his brother, Captain Joseph Grusinsky.   At the heart of the story is the brothers' relationship on opposite sides of the law, as well as their relationship with father Deputy Chief Burt Grusinsky (Robert Duvall).  Predictably, Bobby is the rebellious son and feels he can never measure up in his father's esteem in the way that his brother, Joseph, does.  Following in his father's footsteps in the Police Department, Joseph is at odds with his brother and teams up with his father to infiltrate and break up a Russian mob.  Since Bobby has a peripheral relationship with said mobsters, he has to make a decision whether to remain loyal to friends that he loves or to the family he opposes....</p>... Sun, 30 Mar 2008 04:11:33 GMT http://www.viewpoints.com/We-Own-the-Night-review-92185 MikeMaroon 4 http://www.viewpoints.com/We-Own-the-Night-review-c5c54   After seeing the trailer for <strong>We Own the Night</strong> last year, I was hoping it would be a worthwhile film.  Then I heard it was booed in Cannes, and when it was released it got mostly mediocre reviews and didn't last long in theaters.  I figured.. too bad but there's plenty of crime and gangster stories to watch already. <p>Then a friend and very talented writer, film critic declared the movie one of the best of 2007 and he said he might even go on record as saying the movie was better than The Godfather?</p><p>I took the statement with a grain of salt, but obviously this film is something I needed to see.</p><p>It is now out on DVD.</p><p>No, it isn't anywhere close to being as good as <strong>The Godf</strong>ather, but if you were sick of <strong>The Godfather</strong> and you completely identify with the relationship of the two brothers played by Mark Wahlberg and Joaquin Phoenix ,  you might like it a lot more than I did.</p><p>I want movies to get details right-unless they are made for so little money, they simply couldn't be concerned with getting...</p>...
