The goldfish tank always seem scummy and dirty I shouldn't wonder why they seem to all die within days of bringing them home. There is no one ever around to help you get the fish so you wait forever as your child gets antsy waiting to bring home Mr. Goldy the 5th
...

It's pretty much hit or miss when it comes to fish from Walmart. I have had some live for years, and some that only live for a few days once I get them home. (of course it's after the three days so i can't return them) The tanks at my local walmart are always in ill shape and constantly have sickness problems, I'm not sure if it is the fish they are supplied with or they just dont know how to take care of them. I'm also not sure if it is just my local walmart or others also, that's why I dont trust them.
...

I have had many fish over the years from several different pet shops. I thought that just because I was buying Walmart fish they were dying but that isn't the case, I found out that I just didn't have the proper tools each fish needed and different species need different things and some are similar and some can't live with certain species so after I researched tropical fish for 3 days and studied what i had found online, I realized that it was my fault my fish were dying. Just because I wanted all the pretty fish didn't mean that they could all live together some are too territorial and some were not so the others were fighting my fish at night and killing them. I know that this isn't always the case but ever since I researched I only buy Walmart fish and I have never had more than 2 or 3 fish die in the first week all the others have lived for years. Fish are a big responsibility and take alot of research so when you choose a certain type you must only keep fish in that tank that are compatiable...
...

jrbaytown says "Some of your Reviews are Ignorant...Others Hold Merit" about Walmart Any Fish

Wal-Mart Fish...Good, Bad and Downright Ugly

As I read some of the reviews on here, I simply think that a lot of you may be ignorant as to the process of buying fish, bringing them home and taking care of them. You don't simply take them out of the bag, put them in an aquarium full of tap water squirted with de-chlorinator and watch them be happy. There is so much more work, and once you buy that fish at Wal-Mart...the work is yours and you should've already started on it.

I've been to a few different Wal-Marts and seen absolutely disgusting, downright ugly conditions with more dead fish than at Benihana's. It's sad for a little child to walk up excited about the fish and to see all of these dead fish sucked up against the water intake. But...I digress.

I've also been to Wal-Mart and I've seen well kept tanks and very few dead fish (dead fish in a pet store...even your finest aquatics retailer is going to happen). So, yes...they can and do have good fish sometimes. When buying...
...

The Wal-Mart Supercenter where I happened to see bettas offered for sale keeps them in cups (which, sadly, is to be expected) in an inch and a half of water or less so they cannot spread their fins, and the water is at room temperature, which in a Wal-Mart in winter means cold, resulting in immune-system degradation and crumpling fins. Of course the water is also allowed to become dirty....

I think it is good for people to own fish for multiple reasons. Fish make you calm, you can sit and look at fish for hours and it is such a calm feeling. Also, they get your mind off of other things. I believe this could be a great thing for certain people including me....

I'm into saving money and not paying an arm and a leg (especially for fish). But WalMart's people tend to be under trained for the job and don't take care of the fish at my local WalMart very well. There's never a day that I go by where there's not at least one dead fish floating around.

The one fish I did buy was horrible and sickly... The one good thing though is that they do take returns... :)
...

professionalism says "High Risk..." about Walmart Any Fish

I have been reading a lot of comments about Wal-Mart's fish stock and its poor quality.

Well you have to remember, most people only buy Wal-Mart fish as feeders or as a cheap way to get rare fish (i.e. Oscars) at a cheap price.

To be honest, it really depends on the Wal-Mart, management, and the person who is running the fish dept. I have been to a few Wal-Mart’s were the fish were taken care off, the aquariums will kept (and even decorated), and their was always staff on hand. But this was on a rare occasion in the past.
However as a whole most of the Wal-Mart fish I have seen have sick, covered in disease, tanks full of algae, and even delicate tropical fish treated like minnows.

Best bet, go to a pet store or even pet store chain to buy your fish. Most gold fish I brought from Wal-Mart died within a few weeks (or infected other fish I had), however I did have a strong Betta that lived for months until I left him in the care of my roommate for a week.

This section of my review is especially......

Don't get me wrong Wal-mart is great and they have everything. The thing is I don't think they should have pets. Every time I go into Wal-mart there are dead fish floating around in the tanks. It's disgusting. Try explaining that to a young child when they ask why the fish isn't moving. What's even worst is that the other fish are eating the dead fish. I know a lot of people who actually buy their fish there and the fish die within days. If you buy a fish and it lasts a month you are very lucky. I recommend that if you are serious about having a fish aquarium go buy your fish at an actual pet store....

i've gotten one fish from walmart, and it died so quickly! i never got another fish from there again. i go there alot, and i like checking out the fish, and everytime i go there, i see people there wanting to buy fish. the employee whos supposed to help them always says "oh sorry, they're sick." i went back there one more time after buying my first fish from there, and wanted to at least try to buy one more, and they said they were sick. and the fish DIDN'T look good. the tanks were filthy. i know its not only this store, but the poor betta fishes are tortured in those little tiny cups, which by the way, are filthy too, and it just makes it worse because they're so tiny!
...

I have been into tropical fish keeping for over 15yrs, and have witnessed on more than on occasion, walmart employees improper handling of the fish they try to sell, not mention the fact I have seen them sell visiblily sick fish to customers. I tell people I see in the store thinking about buying fish there, to rethink it and go to a local fish shop that has more knowledge and better policies on proper handling and treatment of their fish.

I am a new aquarium owner and was in the East Peoria IL WalMart on Sunday. What I found was disturbing, to say the least. The "tanks", if you can call them that, are devoid of any decor, or any noticable food , save for what seems to be salt randomly sprinkled on the bare bottoms. I saw at least 6 dead fish, including a pleco, a large gold Koi, and 2 pictus cats on their last dying gasps. Oh, also a fish which had to have been there a while, as I could not begin to identify it. The poor thing was half eaten away! The "employees" either don't realize, or don't care, that dead fish, aside from being upsetting, will contribute huge amounts of harmful ammonia, which endangers every other fish in their system. Imagine your child, perhaps wishing to begin fishkeeping, coming upon such a disgusting sight!
I know a Petco employee who was offered a job at another local WalMart, in their fish dept. He said "no way", and termed the place a "killing field".
Wally World needs to stay the h*** away from......
