jenainwonderland says "Great idea, not very practical. " about VTech V.Smile Baby System

I bought this product after reading tons of reviews. I thought it was worth trying for myself. Overall I am disapointed in the product. The first one I bought broke right of the box so now It is hard to tell if it is starting up with the game in or if it is broken.

The power switch is a big blue light that just attracts your child, I tried putting electical tape over it but you can still see some of the light shining through,

Overall this product doesn't hold my sons attention. I love that when you push the buttons something happens on the screen to show cause and effect but the graphics and story line is so poor he doesn't care what is happening after a few seconds.

I love that it is suposed to have baby signs but I still haven't seen them. I think the signs are in the third stage, but by the third stage I am sure my son will already know those signs.

Overall I think this product is a waste. It was much better in theory.
...

We had this for a while now and my son is still not interested in it. The age group shows 9 months to 36 months. I think it is a little "cheesy" and does not catch the younger kids interest....

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our 19 month old son and he had no idea what to do with it and lost interest in it really quickly. The batteries died really fast and it is now sitting in my closet not getting used....

My kids are fascinated with the computer, tv, anything electronic! This seemed like a perfect fit, but unfortunately this was not the case. The video game is very dull- it is very hard for kids to appreciate the cause and effect relationship. The only reason I even gave it 2 stars, was because my kids do use the pad for stand alone games (not video)- you can press the shapes and hear what they are, etc....

cor-lynn says "Not as entertaining as you would think" about VTech V.Smile Baby System

I was very excited when my daughter got this for Christmas last year because I had been wanting to get it for her. I think she has used it twice since she got it. She has no interest in the connection between the game and the tv. The graphics on the tv are pretty bad. It's one of those toys that kids that are young can't quite understand, but by the time they are old enough to understand the shapes, colors etc the toy itself is too young for them. My 1 year old likes it because it makes noise, but that's about it. The noises it makes can get very irritating after a while. The cloth pad on the front should just be attached as part of the game instead of being velcro, it never stays on once they take it off. All in all I was very disappointed. I thought it was going to be a great toy for my kids, but it ended up being a dust collector....

I love this "computer" for my baby--she is almost 18 months old. She did not seem to care about it the first time I got it out, but now she is really starting to interact with it. I love the fact that it came with one smartridge (game). I bought the Barney game yesterday. She loves them both. The console is also very tough. My only gripe is trying to get it started. You have to turn the game console and unit on in a certain order or the tv play mode does not work.
...

I thought the game was easy to set up but found the graphics of the games really poor. The educational end was great and learning was easy. My daughter likes the games but I am afraid she will grow out of it sooner than I had thought. It is made very durable. I was just expecting a little better product from Vtech.
...

I was disappointed in this product.

We had read online reviews and thought this would be a good learning toy for our son. The unit was very easy to setup and start using. I think overall it is a good toy and would be fine if this is what you are looking for.

My disappointment came in the production value / quality of the graphics. The games are cartridge based so the amount of information that can be stored on them is limited. Think "Nintendo" quality graphics from 1985. Even this would have been fine, but not at the price paid for the system ($40).

We returned the system in exchange for the Leap Frog "Little Leaps" system. It is a little more difficult to set up but the system is DVD based so the quality of the games is better. This system also costs a little less than the VSmile. I feel this system is a better value for the money.

...

This system is very easy for my children to use. They love taking out the games and deciding what to play. The downfall is that the games are easy to remove and my children tend to want to change games in midstream. This creates the game to get distorted. Otherwise it is a great game system that is very educational for my children. I like the games because it teaches my children different things and allows them to be very creative in their imagination. I would like to see a smaller version where I would not have to play this on the television at all times like the older version. The skills are repeatitive and this tends to get cumbersome for my children which causes them to want to switch games. The games are very colorful and keep their attention until they want to try something else....

We bought this "toy" for my daughter's 1st birthday. She is not interested in the television at all, and will not sit still long enough to play with this one. She shows brief interest when mom plays with it, but it doesn't hold her attention nearly long enough. After one time through all the activities, it's quite boring.

Also, my daughter had more fun pulling the docking station along like a pull toy. She enjoyed pushing the on/off button to make the blue light glow. After several months of this, she must have pulled the wire lose, because now there is a short in the wire and it can't be played on the tv anymore.

Overall, I would not recommend getting this toy for your kids.
...

This product has a poor quality (grainy) image on my television. The menus on the games were dificult to use and the response time from the controller to the action in the game was too slow. Also, the game cartridges were difficult to install and to remove. Overall, my daughter and I found this a boring toy. I expected a lot more for the price....
