I have had my Jetta for about 3 years and it is great. Only a few very minor repairs and it has over 150K miles on it. Very reliable, good basic transportation....

SarahLou15 says "Great car for the price paid" about Volkswagen Jetta - 2002

I bought this car brand new in 2002 and have driven it everyday since. It is a great car for the price that I paid. It has all the amenities I was looking for - power windows and locks, sunroof, cruise control and good gas mileage. Two of the nice things about this car is that it has an extremely roomy trunk and the stock stero is so good that I did not have to replace it. A couple of the cons are that it makes a high pitched whining noise at freeway speeds, and I have noticed a decrease in the gas mileage since purchase. Also, beware of the "velour" interior. It was really nice feeling and looking in the beginning, but it traps lint like crazy and it doesnt vacuum off, you have to use a lint roller....

I can not say my Jetta has been the most reliable car ever, but the problems were minimal.

It is fun to drive, its no sports car but it gets up and goes when you want it to.

Gas mileage is pretty good and the interior is nice.

I am happy with it overall
...

When we moved to Denver from out in the country we no longer needed two four whell drive pickups so we got rid of our GMC gas pickup and kept the Dodge Diesel beciase it was bigger and got better mileage. we traded our GMC for a 2002 Jetta GLS TDI. The little 1.9 liter Turbo Diesel Jetta has been a great little car and we love it. It is comfortable for the two of us and two in the back seat. It has plenty of power and has no problems keeping up with or merging with traffic. In fact out on the Interstate you really had better set the druise control or you will be speeding. I eventually got rid of my Dodge after driving it 400,000+ miles. Big Mistake but that is another story. Bought my wife a Diesel Beetle and I use the Jetta for my work car. It has almost 90,000 miles on it now and I get 45-50 miles per gallon on the road.

It has all the things that you need. Power windows, remote keyless entry, CD player with AM/FM radio, sunroof, and remote trunk unlock. The only...
...

dailygrimes says "A Real Life Saver!" about Volkswagen Jetta - 2002

Bought a 2002 Jetta in 2001, drove it, loved it, planned on keeping it til the whole darn thing fell apart - then in 2004, I got hit head on by a small truck at which point I got spun around and broadsided by the car behind me. Jetta was compacted like a tin can from the outside, but inside the interior was completely protected! ALL the safety features kicked on just like they should and that car saved our lives!! I, the driver, walked away with two sprained knees and a broken finger and my husband, the passenger, only had bruises from the airbags and seatbelts! So when the insurance check came, what else would we do but go straight back to VW and buy another Jetta (2003 model this time) I am a Volkswagen Jetta customer for LIFE!...

I have had my Jetta for 2 years and it has travled alot with me but it isn't the most reliable thing. I don't give VW any bad reviews but that they are very expensive with parts and labor. Jetta's are good first cars and they are great for college students....

Ok, I'll admit I don't own a 2002. I own a 1998 VW Jetta in green, and I LOVE IT! It has over 130,000 miles on it and has cost me very little in maintenance. It is a very reliable, comfortable car and I plan to always buy VW's forever! I love this reliable and cute car. I believe VW's are all saying that we are one. We are a group of people who care. I don't know why I feel such a connection with other VW owners, but I just do.

autummint says "Safe, but needs interior fixing" about Volkswagen Jetta - 2002

We bought our 2002 vw jetta used becuase we were looking for a safer car once we knew we were expecting. I love how safe I feel in my car, however there have been 2 recalls since we have owned the car. In addition, the wheel caps have fallen off, the glove box handle has broken, and the center console has broken. The glove box alone is going to cost over $100 to fix because it isn't covered under warranty. All in all, I wouldn't reccomend an older jetta to any of my friends. But I would buy a current year passat, toureg, or eos....

While I did not buy this car (inherited it), I would have been very happy with it if I had. This is a great car for anyone. Good for city living with its moderate size but sufficient storage space. Good mileage. No maintenance problems....
