Jo says "Super Tinker Swiss Army Knife cuts my hangnails and cheese" about Victorinox "Super Tinker" Swiss Army Knife

We carry many - what I consider crucial - tools on our backpacks. Most of them are on my husband's as is the Swiss Army Knife made by Victorinox.

The Swiss Army knives have lots of different names. One way to decipher what you want is by number of blades and what the blades do. You can find the Victorinox Swiss Army Super Tinker Pocket Tool for as low as $20.00 on Amazon. You will see many that look ergonomically friendly i.e. they are contoured. The Super Tinker is not. It has flat sides and measures 3 1/2 inches long and about 1 inch wide. It weighs in the 3 pound range.

Although the Tinker has a key chain you will not be buying it for that use. It is much too heavy. We put it on a hook on our backpack where my husband doesn't feel it at all.

We have a 2 1/2 size large blade. Since we only use this for times outdoors I'll give you an idea of what it can do while hiking, biking, or picniking. We have cut cheese with the large blade. We have also used it to cut twigs (on the ground...

...

DrReed says "It lives up to its name." about Victorinox "Super Tinker" Swiss Army Knife

Based on definitions for the words "Super" and "Tinker," I would identify the Victorinox Super Tinker in the following manner...

"An excellent tool a person might use for minor (and sometimes major) or casual repair work around the household and in the field; i.e., repair work of any kind."

Which Version?

Victorinox offers three versions of their "Tinker" - the Tinker, the Super Tinker, and the Deluxe Tinker; though I've never seen all three versions in a single shop. The Tinker is still on the shelf at the local Target, the Deluxe Tinker is in stock at the ACE Hardware just down the road, and the Super Tinker can be purchased at my local Wal-Mart for right at $20. (This is actually quite a low price in that, generally, the average price is closer to $30 or slightly more. It might explain why they currently only have two in stock.)

What's the difference?

Tinker - large blade, small blade, can opener w/ small screwdriver, bottle opener/large screwdriver/wire stripper, reamer w/...

...
