This humidifier is a great compromise between the hot air and cool air humidifiers. The steam that comes out is not nearly as hot and dangerous, but it does not make the mess of the cool air humidifier that I have (the frog one!). It is small and easy to move around without too much risk of a mess. It also has a notch that you have to line up to remove the top, which is a nice way of keeping it from ending up getting spilled. I like to get the liquid Vicks stuff (not the Vicks brand, though) and put it in the water. The Vicks brand you have to put in the cup on the outside and it just ends up making a mess. There are a few downsides to it-if you do not put enough salt in it when you first start using it, it will not work until you do! I have to fill it every day if I run it for more than a few hours. Also, it gets this yucky slimy stuff inside of it-I don't know what it is, and my only guess is it's from the liquid add in. But, it's really not hard to clean up. It is...
...

My parents used a vaporizer all the time when I was younger, so when my son got congested, we bought this Vicks Warm Mist Vaporizer to help him breathe. We also have a cool mist humidifier. The doctor said that usually those are best to use, but in some cases, the warm mist works best, so we have and use both. I like to use the warm one particularly when its colder outside, as it keeps his room warmer during the night. I also like the features of this one where you can add Vicks liquid to the water or put some in the little tray on top.

However, the biggest problem we've had with this vaporizer is that it seems to struggle a bit with getting the water warmed up and producing steam. The instructions say that if it doesn't work at first, to try adding a little salt to the water. We've had a use it almost every time, and keep adding salt. I assume this may be something having to do wiht our water, but its a bit annoying. Once it does get going however, its amazing how little...
...

lorderica says "This is a necessary item in every child's bedroom." about Vicks Humidifier - 1.5 Gallon - V150

Vicks Humidifier - 1.5 Gallon - V150

is a staple in my family. Living in the South the air gets unhelpfully humid and makes it hard to breathe. In a controlled environment, this in addition to Vicks Vapor rub makes the perfect weapon to combat that. Also, any newborn, small child needs a balanced environment. If a room is too dry that dehydrates the child and causes his body to work harder to keep their insides lubricated properly. If an environment is too damp, that causes further congestion and inhibits clear passage ways for breathing.

My only issue is that it spurts water if accidentally overfilled (burn hazard). This is difficult when refilling at 4 a.m. in the dark with a toddler that sleeps lightly at that hour.

This product is great for keeping the balance.
...

Great Humidifier. I have had a horrible cough for several days and after one night with this in my room, I slept soundly. About average price. The only set back is it makes a light humming noise, not too loud, about the sound of a normal house fan. The directions are easy to use, easy to set up and easy to fill. Once you fill it with water, it should be able to run for 24 hours, so you would only have to remember to fill it once a day. Great product!
...

StephKaye says "The perfect vaporizer/humidifier for me" about Vicks Humidifier - 1.5 Gallon - V150

I had another Vicks vaporizer that I had to get rid of because it was too complicated! It used filters that had to be replaced.

This vaporizer, Vicks Warm Steam (model numbers V105SG, V150SG), is much easier. No filters. You put the water in it, and plug it in. Voila. It makes a gentle, quiet bubbling sound sort of like an aquarium pump. You can see the steam coming out, and Vicks says heating the water to steam kills up to 96% of bacteria.

Another great feature is that it turns itself off when it's empty. It has a dim green light that lights up when it's on. This might bother some people, but when I'm sick, I have all kinds of stuff on my bedside table (tissues, cough drops, etc.) and it's actually handy to be able to see them.

Also, there is a place to put Vicks or Kaz inhalant. You could put the refill strip from one of those outlet vaporizers in there too....
