Pinback says "Verizon FiOS has a great picture and horrible customer service." about Verizon - FiOS Cable Service

I got FiOS TV service as soon as it became available in my neighborhood about four year ago. A Verizon contractor did the installation in a hurry and reused most of the wiring from my old cable system. He left without giving me any instructions or providing the manuals for the DVR boxes. Customer service was originally fairly good and they quickly provided the missing manuals and walked me through some of the setup. Customer sevice has been downhill ever since. It became particularly bad after I dropped my Verizon phone service and changed to Vonage. It takes at least 15 minutes to go through many levels of the automated service before you get to talk to someone and they are usually not very helpful.

We have three High Definition DVR boxes and it would be hard to live without DVR. However, the boxes are unreliable and frequently need refreshing which involves a lengthy call to customer service. Occaisionally they update the software on the boxes to add new features but it usually causes...
...

Verizon FIOS was the best move I ever decided on. Having previously having the local cable provider and being screwed over by them I was very leery about dropping my Satelite TV. upon multiple recommendations from friends I agreed. The worst part is the $400.00 deposit that verizon now requires. The picure quality is awesome especially for our HD TV but just as well on the regular set. There are more channels than we had even with satellite and the movie channels are never ending. they price guareentee for two years was a sincher and the free camcorder, which arrived earlier than we expected to recieve it, was a great incentive. I am glad that Verizon FIOS became available in my area and that I took the chance on them
...

dgk says "Verizon Fios DVR is the worst." about Verizon - FiOS Cable Service

We recently signed up with Verizon Fios triple play service. So far the cable service is ok, but the DVR is ridiculously bad. Unless you have specified to record a program you can't rewind. The quality of recordings is not consistently good. Often blips or breakdowns in the recording. Sometimes when watching a recorded program it will start fast forwarding and we can't stop it. Like I said, it is ridiculously bad. We had Tivo before and I suspect when our contract is up we will go back to Tivo.
...

I was impressed with how the format is. Much better than Dish, Directv. It is pretty similar to Comcast cable, but the On Demand has so much more to offer. It also has more of the popular primetime TV series already on demand so you don't have to DVR them. It is great when you have 3 shows on at the same time. DVR works great and haven't had any problems with it. When you subscribe to everything, there are many free movies you can watch anytime. It is great with the kids.
...

chukkmc7 says "delivers as promised... once they actually get it installed" about Verizon - FiOS Cable Service

This review is for Verizon Fios Television. I have this as part of the triple play from Verizon. Very few problems (if any) with the quality of the picture, although just a couple times (in almost two years) I have noticed the picture will freeze on some channels and it takes a while to come back. Also one of the HD channels seems to skip a bit, but the normal channel is fine, so that may well be the channel itself and not Fios. My biggest complaint is how much I have to pay, even though I have a pretty good deal with the triple play. Actually, my MUCH bigger complaint is the HUGE HASSLE in getting it installed. I ordered over the phone through a vendor (didn't know that at the time) and the day of the install no one shows up. I spend at least four hours using my cell phone minutes trying to figure out what went wrong. They reschedule the install. Again, no one shows up. Again, I'm upset. The reschedule. This time I call them the day before, and sure enough, they...
...

We ordered verizon fios when we lived in an apartment building. After 34 days of waiting, they finally came out to install the services. Once it was up and running, all went well until 5 months later when the box in the living room went out. They did replace it after 2 weeks. Later, we bought a house about 3 miles away, and moved services to the house. Once they installed services, we consistently had problems with the screen "tiling" as they called it. Theres was something about pixeling as well. They came out at least 15 times over the course of 6 months, and we finally said enough with it. If they did show up, it was usually much later than anticipated. They would never apologize or offer any type of reasoning as to what was going on. When we cancelled services due to it not working correctly, we had to fight to get out of it without paying a cancellation fee. Worst service ever - customer service wise, and cable wise.
...

I have had Verizon Fios TV service for a few weeks now and I am very pleased. There are plenty of channels, a great on demand menu and plenty of perks. I really like the universal backlit remote that comes standard and the boxes are really simple to use and program. I especially like the HDTV service and the DVR that is now programmable remotely on any computer anywhere! I think they give you lots for the price you pay, especially if you get the bundle which locks in your rate for two years and qualifies you for a cash rebate. I wasn't thrilled about the fact that you have to pay for each additional box, but it didn't really break my budget considering I was paying more with Comcast to begin with.
...

notgatorbait says "Verizon Fios has the worst customer service ever" about Verizon - FiOS Cable Service

Verizon Fios would be a great product if only you could get it installed when they promise to.

If you are lucky enough to get it installed and decide to make any chances at all, even it is as simple as adding a new dvr or change your address (due to a 911 or the post office changes your zip) your service may be disconnected. Yes that's right, the service was disconnected to correct these changes (two seperate occurances) and it took several hours to get the service back on.

Oh and also the when one dvr was returned because two were no longer affordable, the bill still showed the second dvr for over five months.

When service was installed they said it would be $99 for phone internet and fios, and there would be some pro-rated charges. Some...wow... it was a complete shock to see a $400+ bill.

Talking to customer service billing or repair representative is an adventure by itself since there were no less than five transfers before being told they could not help.

Then when trying to disconnect...
...

After having spent years fighting with Comcast over their billing, their service outages and just about everything else you'd find wrong with a cable monopoly, FIOS TV service became available in my Town. Actually, first the telephone and internet service became available. I had already signed up for those and when the TV/Cable service became available, I called the very next day and had them install it.

Installation is easy, especially if you've already gotten the internet and telephone service installed. They just run new lines to the rooms where you want to have FIOS TV boxes and then give you the boxes to run the programming. You can get a basic box or get an HD box or a box that also includes a DVR so you can record programs and watch them later. I went with the basic box since we don't really watch that much TV.

Since we've had it installed a few years ago the TV has been great. We've never lost service and we've got several hundred channels to choose from along with...
...

I would advise anyone thinking about switching from Comcast to Verizon to be ware!

This has been by far the worst experience I've had! My install was scheduled for 12/05/08 and took place on 12/22/08.

1. First the salesman sold me a package that does not exist

2. I was told my bill would be around $80.00 and month and my first bill was $196.44 for 41 days!

3. when I contacted customer service, they said they would make the corrections and backdate my bill.

The new bill arrived for the same amount of $196.44.

4. I called billing this time and the woman could not help me. I asked for her supervisor and she also said she could not help. She said that Verizon does not backdate or fix bills. I would have to pay the full amount.

Watch out folks! Verizon will tell you one thing and do another! I'm paying my bill and canceling my service. Its not worth $196 bucks a month!

...

I have had FiOs TV service for over a year and it's been great. Hardly any interruptions, any were mostly in the middle of the night when they update the programs. I have my television on all night is why I notice. The picture is clear and constant. There are occasionally pixels, but most of the time they are small and not bothersome. There are times that it will 'skip' a brief moment, like a few frames of the show, but that doesn't happen too often either. That is what is most annoying. I haven't had to call service for any repair. There was a problem right after I had it installed, but I don't remember what it was and it was taken care of from their end. No one had to come out. I have had them come out to upgrade the 'box'. That was quick and no problem was experienced.
...
