Some have criticized the Valentine One as being heavy and bulky. I personally care for its solid construction, although it's lighter than other more streamlined appearing detectors. Valentine's convey a sense of being chisled out of billet steel (actually the case is magnesium).

Whenever I see a Valentine One mounted in the windshield of another vehicle, I know the driver is a serious one. When I drive with the Valentine One, I notice I tend to get followed/flogged more by would-be freeloaders on my tail than with any other detector. There is a reason for this and I understand the desire of Valentine owners to want to hide their detector from view with the optional remote display.

Shortcomings? Sure. A couple of minor ones. I still struggle with the suction cups losing adhesion (it seems to alway be one or the other) from time to time. An automuting capability would be nice or at least a push button (a la Bel/Escort) on the power adaptor to spare me the reach to the windshield every...
...

This is a case of "you get what you pay for." Yes you can find a cheaper radar detector, yes if you speed you will probably get a ticket at some point. The next best thing to not speeding is the V1, when distance and time seperate you from a ticket or a clean record the V1 proves itself everytime. If it saves you from 1 or 2 tickets it pays for itself....

Valentine 1 radar and laser detector. I have owend many over the years. This one has the best range and 360 degree coverage. A lot of cool feathures and the software can be updated over the internet. Most inmportant is that it has great range even around curves.

Drive safely and defensively but don't drive fast without one of these.
...

tdiprincess says "The V1- is one of the only few Radar Detectors to trust!" about Valentine One - V1 Radar Detector

There are tons of Radar Detectors out on the market these days. The question is: Which one do you buy?
There are cheap ones and expensive ones. There are some things in life that cheaper is better. Radar Detectors are not one of those things! The more you spend the better off you are!
The Valentine One is a state of the art Radar Detector. It can sense radar from the front, back and sides and tell you exactly where it is. It shows X, K, Ka and Laser. It can detect from miles down the road. Which gives a speeder enough time to slow down when needed.
Cheaper radar detectors can only sense what's in front of them. They also only detect about 0.5miles away. Which is not enough time to slow down.
No one should ever completely rely on a Radar Detector. For example, the one limit of the Valentine One is that while it detects laser it can only do so when you're getting hit with laser. In order to be hit with laser the police officer must be able to reflect if off something on your car such as a license......
