My son began kindergarden this year and we bought him the v-tech vsmile learnign system. It has helped him tremendously. It has games with all of the popular characters such as spongebob, monsters vs aliens, cars, and hot wheels and best of all everyone of the games are educational. They games also grow with the child. they have different game cartridges for different age groups. When you purchase the system it comes with one game and the controller (which is user friendly and can be adjusted to fit both left and right handed children) and it also comes with a microphone. My 20 month old daughter even plays with it It has a sing along portion on some of the games and she love is. The console runs of batteries however you can purchase a dc plug for less that ten dollars. The system cost around fifty dollars and they games are aroung twenty however it is well worth the money. this is one of the best educational toys I have found.
...

We purchased this item for our child when he was 2 years. The game always seemed too hard to operate but when he was old enough to operate it, my child already lost interest. Not a big fan.
...

My kids really love playing video games. They have a hard time with using the conventional game consoles for older kids and adults, but they really can handle the V-Smile. It reminds me of playing the old Nintendo games, but is much more kid friendly. They enjoy the characters and learning as well. I am really impressed with how quickly they adapt to the different games and can play for quite some time if you let them. I do wish the games were a little bit cheaper, and we often wait to buy them when they are on sale at Walmart of Toys R Us. I was dissappointed in that I had to purchase an A/C adapter separately, but then the adapter doesn't work and I still have to use batteries to power it. We have had two V-Smiles, and the first one ran on C batteries and seemed to last longer than the newer one powered by AA batteries. I wouldn't trade the V-Smile for any other learning system for my children.
...

andreasattic says "Fun preschool toy" about VTech V.Smile TV Learning System

The V-Tech V-Smile is a fun toy for preschoolers, but they need parental assistance to figure out what to do with the games. My grandson enjoys his a lot and seems to be learning from it as well. It is tricky to turn on and off and the games need to be put in and removed by an adult or bigger child. There is a huge variety of different games available, and I like that they are age-rated. Unfortunately the games that my grandson wants to play based on characters like Cars and Spiderman are for older children and he gets frustrated he cannot play them well. He enjoys playing the preschool games, but thinks the characters are to babyish for him. I don't think this is an actual learning system, but more a a reviewing what they have already learned and providing a chance for them to practice numbers. letters, etc. It also gives them some introduction to cause and effect situations. Overall, I think that this is a good system and a worthwhile toy to buy.
...

junebug5823 says "The younger children will love the V.Smile" about VTech V.Smile TV Learning System

The V Tech V Smile is very easy to set up and use. The children (ages 3 and 5) can navigate easily and seem to really enjoy it. They learn basic things such as counting, colors, shapes and hand eye coordination. It is a great learning tool and they don't even realize they are learning! The graphics are pretty poor, but I think that is due to seeing and playing the other gaming systems that are out there. The price of the cartridges is high and I don't always think the age groups are appropriate as they seem to have wide age ranges. The controllers are simple and easy for the children to figure out and use and for me, too, for those instances where I am helping them through a task. It is also a very durable system as the boys are not that gentle with items and will pick it up and throw it or kick it and it still works perfectly and doesn't show any sign of wear or abuse! I think this is an good product overall!
...

Received this as a gift for my 4 and 6 year old girls. They just love it and so do I. The cartriges are easy to use and it keeps them so busy that they don't realize they are learning. The graphics are pretty simple compared to xbox, etc, but the price was a lot more reasonable. I'm very happy with this gift and would recommend it to others....

TheVTech V.Smile TV Learning System is a game system for little ones not quite old enough for the big kid video games.

I bought The VTech V.Smile Learning systemfor my daughters about 5 years ago. I was not happy about having to purchase an adapter and extra controller in addition to the system. Anyhow, my girls played the games and had fun doing so. A month or so later all the problems started. First off a few of the games just didn't work anymore. The ones that did work had to be restarted over and over again so many times that my girls lost interest. A few months later the system just gave out and never worked again. It worked for a total of 3 months. After spending over $100 on the system, extra controller, adapter plug, and a number of games it was done and my girls were very upset.

About 5 years later (a few months ago) my son asked for the VTech V.Smile Learning Systemand received it as a gift for his birthday. Wouldn't you know it, we had the exact same problems...
...

The Leapster was so much better than the older ones. my younger kids loved it, then my older ones wanted their own. Even I got a kick out of using the leapser. So fun! We love using it after school, so the kids keep educating themselves before and after their own education. We have alot of fun with the different books that come wiht it to use. Even though they are expensive they are really worth it...
